We use the first conditional when talking about a condition in
the present with a prediction or a real possibility that its effect
will happen in the future. For example:
- If he has a balanced diet, you will be healthy
- If it rains, I won't go to the park.
- If I study today, I will go to the party tonight.
- If I have enough money, I will buy some new shoes.
Structure of first conditional
If + simple present, will + base verb
Example: If I see you later, I will say hello.
Second conditional
The second conditional is used to imagine present or future
situations that are impossible or unlikely in reality.
Example: If we had a garden, we could have a cat.
If I won a lot of money, I'd buy a big house.
The structure is:
If + past simple >> + would + infinitive.
