CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Education has an essential role in every country. However, academic failure is one of
the major problems of the families. Many factors affect academic achievement. Literatures
have shown that performance in school was found to be affected by having a relationship
such as difficulties in concentration and poor attendance. These conditions will influence of
National High School. Some of the students nowadays, especially in Senior High School,
experience this kind of problem. This study will help elaborate on the influence of
of relationship.
Because of this need to belong, we can say nowadays that most of the students are
synchronizing their time in both academic and being in a relationship. Engaging themselves
in this adolescents relationship enables them to feel the someone cares for them, shows
affection to them, loves them, etc. Students today are more prone to engage themselves in
adolescents relationship, nit thinking of the consequences that would arise from their
decisions. Adolescents are becoming more aggressive because of love. As a result, being in

interested and involved in dating because of their desire to belong with others.

have determination to connect with others in close relationships. Before, the chances of
passing by a adolescents couple on the streets, at parks and sometimes, even at school.
When people are involved in a romantic relationship, they could feel complete.
HighSchool involve themselves in dating. One of the possible reason is sexual involvement
which might be harmful. This may take away their time studying. On the other hand, having
a adolescents relationship can be beneficial because it does not take so much time from
studying. The time that was taken away may be necessary for the students to develop their social
skills.

Dating and a resulting increase in self-esteem may have a bad or good influence on students
performance. In addition, daters may find support from their partners when school does not go well
for them, or they may learn more effectively when they study together.

After entering the secondary education, adolescents are facing significant academic
changes such as academic difficulty. They must adopt a high-level learning strategy
and invest sufficient time and efforts in learning in order to achieve academic
emotional changes, which can impair teenagers who dated throughout Secondary

a partner, and explores this kind of curiosity that somehow leads to relationship.
However this kind of relationship may not lead to pleasant and intense love affair.
This is just a result of their inquisitive mind and a sort of finding on how to fit into

A quantitative method was used in the study. Using descriptive research design it focused
on the students who are in a relationship. There were four academic variables identified as
performance task and attendance. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires to the
target respondents through purposive sampling. The results of the study revealed that
romantic relationship impact the academic performance of the Students in terms of the
afore cited variables (1) Assignment –students in a romantic relationship inspired one
another to do and finish their assignments on time. (2) Quizzes or exams –students in a
adolescence relationship helps one another in reviewing lessons before the exams leading
them to pass the quizzes and exams. (3) Performance tasks –students in a adolescence
relationship motivates one another to participate and perform well in their classroom. (4)
attend their class regularly. The results demonstrate the need for the parents and teachers to
guide the Bestlink students in engaging in a relationship in a very early age by giving them
orientation. This may somehow impact their academic performance in becoming active in
their class, that’s why it is very important that students should only be link to relationship
that positively impacts their academic performance. The parents must always guide their
children in having a relationship and have a deeper understanding to their children. The
students must balance their time between studying and having a relationship and if possible
During adolescence, teens become interested with romantic feelings and start to delve into
relationships due to different factors that affect them and the desire to be given love and
receive love in return. In this age, students start to be in love in their opposite sex or maybe
in their same sex since there was the existence of LGBT community nowadays. The scope
of this study was to identify the impact of adolescents relationship to the academic
Provide a positive relationship, adolescents would strive hard on performing well in studies
to bring a brighter future in their relationship. Moreover, theorist suggested that relationship
has a great role in the academic performance of adolescents. Theorist also suggested that
However, adolescents relationship do not always behave in a positive way. There is are
instances in which relationship may harm adolescents and because of this, they need adults
who will guide them in developing healthy relationships (Luqman, 2009). According to
Erickson (as cited in Feldman, 2009) he suggested that each stage requires the resolution of
a crises or complied and may produce both positive and negative outcomes.

Teens nowadays consider adolescents relationship as the number one source of stress.
(Manning et al., (2009). It results from the breakups or conflicts with partner. Even those
who give more importance on academics, spending time with partner. Even those who give
more importance on academics, spending time with one's partner may also serve as a
distraction. The tie spent with partner would consume must be allotted for studying; taking
relationship influence the academic performance. A stated by Crissey (2006) in her study
about impact of adolescents relationship in high school girls, there is really a challenge in
that having a romantic affair especially when you are just a student would not just give a
disturbing because a student will deal on managing time between the school and in the side
On the other situation, negative effects of adolescents relationships arr very evident in the
report of Namaganda (2009) saying that "developing feelings of love, two weeks before
exams can lead to lack of concentration during the time a learner should be revising and
thus failure".
HACIENDA-INTAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL 15
In conclusion, relationships and academics can't be joined together. On one side, the
student is spending time with his/her lifelong partner, but on the other side, the student is
busy trying to fulfill other responsibilities in School like making projects, studying, and
maintaining grades.

Analysis of Data
The information and data gathered by the researchers through questionnaires answered by

data, tallying were done to determine the weighted mean of the answers of the students. The

of Hacienda-Intal National High School who experienced dating or are currently dating
during the academic year. In every block / class, we chose at least 5 among the total number
of students as our respondent. Students who the researchers purposively knew that are
dating and having the pros and cons of dating were chosen and were considered at the time.
After collecting the data from the respondents, the researchers will notify the participants
