Hello, my name is Charlin Gavina. I am a dedicated high school student,
currently revalidating my high school studies from Mexico. I have a deep
passion for the field of law and a strong interest in politics, particularly
in understanding and advocating for the diverse laws and regulations in
the United States. My ultimate dream is to pursue a career in law and
actively engage in politics to support and empower the Latino
community, women, and other minority groups.

The reason I am particularly interested in the Angeleno program is

because it offers invaluable opportunities such as mentoring and
internship programs. These opportunities would enable me to gain real-
world experience, kickstart my career, and work towards securing a

area of study? Why did you choose
your area of study?
• My educational goal is to pursue a degree in Law. I am deeply
interested in studying the intricacies of legal systems, understanding
the laws that govern society, and applying that knowledge to make a
positive impact. I am passionate about advocating for the rights of
underrepresented communities. Through my studies in Law, I aim to
equip myself with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute to
the legal field and ultimately work towards a more just and equitable
society.
Do you have any work or internship
experience? If so, can you tell me
about them?
Yes, I have worked in various roles, including as a waitress and a sales
consultant. These positions have provided me with opportunities to
develop strong customer service skills, effectively communicate with
diverse individuals, and work efficiently in fast-paced environments.
Currently, I am also participating in an internship through the WIOA
program.

• This internship will allowed me to apply my knowledge and skills in a
professional setting, gain hands-on experience in my field of interest,
and further develop my abilities in areas such as project management
and teamwork. These experiences have been instrumental in shaping

have prepared me well for future challenges and opportunities in the

• No, honestly my main focus and commitment will be on completing
the program. I believe that dedicating my time and energy solely to
this program will allow me to fully immerse myself in the learning and
development opportunities it offers. By focusing solely , I can
maximize my potential for growth and contribute effectively to the
program's objectives. I am dedicated to making the most out of this
experience and leveraging it as a stepping stone towards my future

• While I am not currently involved in any specific extracurricular
activities or volunteering in my community, I am highly motivated to
continuously develop myself professionally. I actively seek out online
courses and resources to enhance my skills and knowledge,
particularly those that are relevant to the work environment. I believe
that investing in self-improvement is crucial for personal and career
growt
Can you tell me about a time you
faced a challenge (personal, school, or
work-related)
• Certainly! One challenge I faced was during my transition from the education
system in Mexico to the American education system. Moving to a new country
and adapting to a different academic environment presented various hurdles. I
had to quickly familiarize myself with new teaching methods, cultural norms,
and language proficiency requirements. Additionally, the revalidation process
for my high school studies required extensive paperwork and coordination.
Despite these challenges, I remained determined and proactive. I sought
guidance from teachers, engaged in additional language learning activities.
Through perseverance and a strong work ethic, I I am still working on it to these
obstacles and managed to excel academically in my new educational setting.
This experience taught me the importance of adaptability, resilience, and the
value of seeking support when faced with challenges. and of course, thanks to
Mrs. Rosa Grant who is a worker at the agency where I was advised and who
knew my story and my situation of not having a fixed place to live and guided
me to learn about these programs to whom honestly I am extremely grateful.

the institutions you collaborate with, Bet Tzedek Servicios Legales stood
out to me as an organization that aligns with my values and career
aspirations. The opportunity to work with Bet Tzedek would be an
absolute honor for me. Their commitment to providing legal services to
underserved communities resonates deeply with my goal of supporting
and advocating for marginalized individuals. I believe that gaining hands-
on experience at Bet Tzedek would provide me with invaluable insights
into the legal profession and further fuel my passion for making a positive

took the time to understand my story and aspirations. I am extremely
grateful to Mrs. Grant for her support and for introducing me to the
