TM Reported Speech Change List

The document lists the changes that are made to verb tenses and pronouns when direct speech is converted to reported or indirect speech. For verb tenses, the simple past changes to the past perfect and present tenses change to the corresponding past tense. Modal verbs also change to the past form except for would, could, might, ought to, needn't have, must have, and used to. Pronouns such as I, you, and possessive adjectives also change depending on who is speaking. Time, place and other demonstrative references are adjusted from direct to indirect speech.
