QUESTION 1

a. Determine whether each of the following statements is True or False.

i. Descriptive statistics consists of methods dealing with the collection, tabulation,


summarization and presentation of data.
ii. The number of voting papers in a ballot box is considered a quantitative continuous
variable.
iii. Sampling involves obtaining a list of all members of a population and randomly
selecting members for inclusion in the sample.
iv. One of the advantages of a personal interview is that there is no interviewer
influence.
v. The method of dividing the population into several heterogeneous groups and a
few groups chosen randomly is called stratified sampling.

QUESTION 2

A group of researchers intends to determine the monthly expenditure of households in Taman


Seri Indah. The breakdown of the households according to ethnicity (Malay, Chinese, Indian
and others) is shown in Table 1 :

a. A random sample of 30 people was asked to record the number of miles they travelled
by car in a given week. The distances to the nearest mile are shown below.

b. A survey was conducted to determine the number of hours secondary school students
spend on their smartphones in a week. A sample of 𝑛1 = 30 was taken from School A
and 𝑛2 = 30 from School B. The descriptive measures of the results are given below:
