1.0 Objective(s) of the Course:


This course aims:
 Describe the function of HRM from the perspective of a practitioner and
the perspective of management
 Describe the relationship between HRM, and productivity and
performance
 Describe the relationship of HRM with other areas of professional activity

2.0 Course Description:

This unit is designed to enable students to examine the role of Human Resource
Management (HRM) in contributing to the long term performance and viability of
organizations. Students will be provided with an understanding of the functions
of HRM and how HRM integrates and interrelates with other functions of
management. The unit content will establish a structured framework for further
specialist study in HRM.

3.0 Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:


 Identify staffing needs and relate to organization strategic planning
 Apply HRM theories models to HRM activities
 Identify strategies to meet HRM issues and problems
 Design HRM tools for activities such as performance appraisal

6.0 Course Policies

Attendance and class participation are essential to the satisfactory completion


of this course. Students’ promptness is appreciated and noted. Excessive
absences or tardiness will affect student’s final grade. More than three absences
consecutively, without valid reason(s) will be considered excessive and the Dean
of School/Head of Programme reserves the right to bar students from sitting for
the final exam.

7.0 Plagiarism and Cheating

Activities such as plagiarism and cheating are not acceptable and will not be
condoned by the college. Students involved in such activities are subject to
serious disciplinary action. Therefore, students are required to adhere to high
