SHSGenMath EvaluatingFunctions
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. evaluate function;
2. solve problems involving function;
3. develop cooperation during discussion and group activity.
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review
In order to refresh your memory from our
past lesson, let us have an activity, entitled
Pick a Fries. Listen to the mechanics.
1. I have here a big fries, each piece of
this fries has a question. I will select a
student to come here in front to pick a
fries and answer the question written
on it.
2. The process will continue until last
piece of the fries is answered.
Questions:
1. What is the relation where each
element in the domain is related to
only one value in the range by some 1. It is a function ma’am.
rule?
Very good.
4. Motivation
Now, let us have an activity called “Function
Machine”. The class will be divided into three
groups. Each group will be given materials
needed in this activity (manila paper, marker
and tape).
Listen to the mechanics.
2x +5
Questions:
1) If 7 goes into the machine, what
number comes out?
x−1 y= y=
State the value of y.
Problem:
Your group decided to sell snacks in the
nearby school. In one day, your group
spends Php. 200 for rent and Php 25 for
each snack item you prepare. Your expenses Given: 100 snacks, 150
in a single day can be expressed as the snacks C ( x )=25 x+200 x=100
function C ( x )=25 x+200, where x is the C ( x )=25 x+200
number of snacks and C ( x ) is your daily
C (100)=25(100)+200
expenses in pesos. How much is your
expenses if the group prepare 100 snacks? C (100)=2500+200
150 snacks? C (100)=2700
The daily expenses if the group prepare 100
snacks is Php 2700.

about 0.22 million per year until
2025. This is expressed as f
(x)=0.22x+17.4 where x is the f (x)=0.22x+17.4, and x=8
number of years since 2010. Find
the population of Florida in the next 0.22x+17.4
8 years. 0.22 (8)+17.4
1.76+17.4
19.16
The population of Florida in the next 8 years
is 19.16 million.
