Make a reaction regarding your experiences in your OR rotation. Focus on what you have learned and
what you still want to learn. Write it in a bond paper at least in 8-10 sentences.
This paper's objective is to explain our experience in the operating room at the hospital. I went to
the operating room on October 10, 2022. Observing every step of the process was fascinating. Although
the atmosphere in the operating room was relaxed, everyone there had a severe obligation to complete
their tasks. Before the patient arrived, everyone worked together as a team to get everything ready for the
operation. They got the correct equipment for each surgery and had everything set up for the surgery to
begin within twenty minutes of the patient being in the operating room. During the surgical procedure, the
environment was focused on getting the job done promptly but not rushing to the surgeon. Everybody
usually talked, and everyone followed the doctor's orders. My first case was open cholecystectomy, and I
was the circulating nurse. At first, I was so nervous that I could not speak correctly, but then the circulating
nurse beside me was always comforting me. She was the reason why I gained confidence throughout the
procedure. She taught me everything the circulating nurse would do if there were surgery. So, she guided
me in preparing all the processes and oriented me on what I would do if it were counting instruments. She
told me to listen carefully to every number that the scrub nurse would state because if I got it wrong, they
would scold me. After all, counting instruments before and after the surgery is vital. She also taught me
the names of different instruments used. After the surgery, the doctor allowed me to examine the
extracted bladder of the patient and described why it was happening, the causes, and the guidance on
how to avoid it. While cleaning the surgical room for the subsequent surgery, I communicated with the
nurses and surgical team. They explained the flow and equipment that was used in the operating room.
They were all so courteous and helpful. They were not screaming at students, and they were
understanding. They even make jokes and impart life lessons that are beneficial in the long run. I have also
seen a couple of other procedures. It was not so much the procedures that got to me. It was the fact that
it was so cold. I was so cold I could not stop shaking, no matter how hard I tried. I still want to learn to
insert a catheter in a human; though I have experience now, I want to do it professionally and smoothly
and with skin preparation. Also, I want to see and be part of the team in other procedures that will help
me shortly. My experience in OR duty is alluring. Soon, if it's God's plan, I would love to work as a nurse in
OR setting.
