Cyclone

Cyclones refer to spinning storms that rotate around a low pressure area. There are three main types of cyclones: tropical cyclones in warm oceans, polar cyclones in polar areas, and mesocyclones within thunderstorm clouds. Cyclones are caused by rising warm air over bodies of water, which creates low pressure areas that pull in surrounding high pressure air and perpetuate the storm. Cyclones can have violent winds and rain, high waves, coastal flooding from storm surges, and destroy ecosystems and habitats. Several areas in India are prone to cyclones, and governments provide help through radio updates, encouraging safe behaviors before, during, and after cyclones hit.

A report on cyclone- meaning, types, causes and effects

Submitted by-: Rashmi ranjan panda

Submitted to-: Prof. Kshitish kumar mahapatra
Introduction -:

-: Cyclone refers to any spinning storm

that rotates around a low pressure
with an anticlockwise or clockwise
circulation.
-: As a result of this, an eye is created in
the Centre, which is the low pressure
area into which the high pressure air
f lows above, thus creating a Cyclone.
Defination about cyclone -:

■ The term cyclone was coined in Calcutta, by

an English sailor “Henry Piddington “.

■ According to him “ cyclone have no bounds,

really they can come and go anytime “ .
Types of cyclones-:
■ There are mainly 3 types of cyclones that can be differentiate
according to their place of origin. Those are-:

1. Tropical cyclone-: it is mostly originated in tropical warm

oceans .
2. Polarr cyclone-: it is mostly originated in polar or poles areas.
3. A mesocyclone-: When a thunderstorm cloud starts to spin
then it creates a mesocyclone.
Causes of cyclones-:

■ Cyclones are caused by atmospheric disturbances

around a low pressure area.
■ It is caused by the rising of warm air above the surface
of a sea.
■ Once a cyclone starts then the process or Cyclone cycle
takes place .
■ In this time, air from the surrounding regions with high
pressure, pushes into the low pressure area.
■ And thus a Cyclone continues.
Effects of a Cyclone -:

■ Very violent wind

■ Severe rain
■ High waves
■ Coastal flooding
■ Destructive storm surges
Cyclone prone areas in India-:

■ West Bengal
■ Andhrapradesh
■ Odisha
■ Tamilnadu
■ Kerala
■ Karnataka
■ Gujurat
■ Goa
Help of government during Cyclone -:
Survival skills to be adopted before
cyclone-:
■ Listen to radio
■ Secure the loose goods
■ Close all windows and doors
■ Move to a safe places
■ Fisherman not go to the sea
During Cyclone -:

■ Listen radio
■ Stay indoor
■ Do not wander outside
After Cyclone -:

■ Rescue, relief and rehabilitation

■ Clear the roads
■ Financial relief
■ Keep first aid kits
■ Learn some lessons to handle the next one
Conclusion-:
■ The Pacific Ocean generate the greatest number of
tropical storms and Cyclones.
■ The India Ocean is 2nd in the total number of storms.
■ Despite having some positive effects, Cyclone still
bring great damage to the environment.
■ They destroy whole ecosystems and natural habitats
, they can destroy whole marine life.
