Theory:
Filters are essential components in electronic circuits used to modify the amplitude
and phase characteristics of input signals. The RC low pass filter consists of a resistor (R) and a
capacitor (C) connected in series. It allows low-frequency signals to pass through while attenuating
higher-frequency signals. The behavior of the filter can be described by its transfer function, which
relates the output voltage to the input voltage as a function of frequency.
𝐻(𝑗𝜔) = 1 / (1 + 𝑗𝜔𝑅𝐶)
Procedure:
The circuit setup for the RC low pass filter was prepared by connecting a resistor and a
capacitor in series on Experimental board.
The input signal was generated using a function generator and connected to the input of
the RC low pass filter.
The output voltage across the filter was measured using an oscilloscope.
The frequency of the input signal was varied, and the corresponding output voltage was
recorded for each frequency.
The measurements were taken across a range of frequencies, starting from a low
frequency, and gradually increasing to higher frequencies.
The experiment was repeated a few times to ensure the consistency of the results.
Observations:
The following table presents the measured output voltages across different
frequencies for the RC low pass filter:
Frequency ‘f’(Hz) Initial Voltage ‘Vi’ Final Voltage ‘Vo’ H=𝑽𝒐⁄𝑽𝒊

70.2 10.80 8.00 0.740
80 10.80 7.60 0.703

This type of plot is known as a Bode plot.
The cutoff frequency (fc) of the filter can be determined by finding the frequency at which the
output voltage is reduced by 3 dB (approximately 70.7% of the input voltage). In this
experiment, the cutoff frequency was found to be approximately 1,000 Hz.
Conclusion:
Understanding the frequency response of filters is crucial in various applications, such as audio
