RFID offers improvements over competitor technologies like barcodes for agricultural use. RFID tags can be read in-motion from several feet away even when covered in dirt, store more data than barcodes, and can be reprogrammed. Farmers using RFID with Croptracker see benefits like lowered costs through automation, reduced errors, improved production efficiency, enhanced traceability of goods, and swift recall management.

COMPETITOR SURVEY

 Direct

Beacons, Bluetooth tags or BLE tags. They have inbuilt batteries which provide them with long
read-ranges. The most unique difference between BLE and RFID is that beacons work on
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology which is highly energy-efficient. BLE is further a
universally available protocol that also happens to be a feature present on most GSM chipsets
(in other words, your cellphone), giving BLE Beacons the strategic advantage in terms of cost
effectiveness and scalability.

Near-Field Communication or NFC. It is a close cousin of RFID as it operates in the same

bandwidth of high-frequency or HF RFID which is 13.56 Mhz. NFC can function both like active or
passive RFID, where-in the tag can simply bounce back radio waves it is beamed or actively emit
radio waves towards the NFC reader using a small battery. NFC readers are common on
smartphones today with most Android and Windows phones carrying them, but the biggest
drawback of this technology is that its read-distance is extremely low (in the range of a few
centimeters only).

 Indirect

Agrowatcher- The device makes use of a high-resolution digital camera that can capture
reflected light energy pictures in several bands spanning the visible and near-infrared spectrum.
The photos are evaluated and a specific treatment is applied using a custom computer vision
algorithm and machine learning.

Quicktrials - a computerized platform for conducting field trials in agriculture. The software
enables collecting measurements in the field, which might include photographs and GPS, much
easier. Trial coordinators can verify progress and analyze outcomes more quickly because the
data is immediately synchronized to the cloud.

PATHEON Farming - It assists with bookkeeping, records, analysis and projections, more efficient
decision-making, and time and money savings.

MODIFICATIONS/DIFFERENCES/IMPROVEMENTS OVER COMPETITORS

 Radio-frequecny Identification (RFID),has similarities in barcodes, however there are big

differences and improvements.
 Can be read in-motion from several feet away, even when the label is covered in mud and dirt
 Can hold up to 2 KB of data - such as identification data, location data, time stamps, and more
 Can be reprogrammed over and over again to flexibly represent new items and hold new data
 Lowered cost through automation - Croptracker users who use RFID to tag pallets or bins and
install RFID readers in the entryways of their packing facilities save time and money by not
having to manually change inventory as pallets or bins enter and depart the packhouses. Once
products are in storage, RFID readers and Croptracker work together to automatically record
which storage rooms they enter, making it easier than ever to locate them.
 Some Croptracker users have been able to greatly extend their packing and storage facilities as a
result of this automation.
 Reduced errors - RFID readers are immune to human error, lowering the chance of costly
blunders.
 Improved production throughput - RFID readers capture arriving and outgoing pallets in real
time, enabling for speedier order processing and packing.
 Enhanced traceability- Croptracker users may trace pallets or bins sent out into the
field/orchard back to their exact starting block with a single scan by affixing RFID labels to them.
 Swift recall management - Croptracker users may quickly identify and investigate the originating
block, as well as review and recall other goods from the same block, when an issue with a bin or
palette is discovered.
