Grade 1 Rhythm Lesson Plan (20 minutes)

Subject: Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) Topic: Introduction to Rhythm
Grade Level: Grade 1 Duration: 20 minutes Curriculum Framework: Department of Education
(Philippines)
Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Understand the concept of rhythm as a pattern of sounds.
2. Demonstrate basic rhythmic patterns through clapping and body movements.
3. Identify and respond to different rhythmic patterns.
Materials Needed:
 Clapboard or rhythm sticks (optional)
 Music player or instrument (optional)
Procedure:
1. Introduction (2 minutes):
 Greet the students and explain the objective of the lesson.
 Show or play a short audio clip with a steady beat and ask the students to listen
carefully.
1. Definition of Rhythm (3 minutes):
 Ask students if they know what rhythm means.
 Explain that rhythm is the pattern of sounds in music or movement.
 Give examples of simple rhythmic patterns by clapping or using rhythm sticks
(optional).
1. Clapping and Body Movements (10 minutes):
 Demonstrate a basic rhythmic pattern by clapping your hands and ask the students
to imitate you.
 Gradually introduce variations in the pattern, encouraging students to follow
along.
 Incorporate simple body movements (e.g., stomping feet, swaying) to enhance the
understanding of rhythm.
1. Group Activity (3 minutes):
 Divide the students into small groups.
 Assign each group a simple rhythmic pattern.
 Instruct the groups to practice their assigned pattern together.
 Call out each group to perform their pattern in front of the class.
1. Conclusion (2 minutes):
 Recap the lesson by asking students to share what they have learned about
rhythm.
 Provide positive feedback and reinforce the importance of rhythm in music and
movement.
 End the lesson with a fun rhythmic activity or a short rhythmic song (optional).
