Creating Writing Prompt Assignments HAVO 4 2022-2023

Based on what you have learned in class , choose four of the of the writing prompts given below + 1
additional prompt given to write your short stories creatively. The +1 is being assigned by the teachers
which is option eight and it is mandatory.

Use at least ten of the literary devices and five of the story elements techniques learned in class.
When writing the stories of your own choice, you use between 300 to 400 words.

Deadline of your portfolio is February 24, 2023 through SOMToday ‘inlevermoment’.

Make sure that your portfolio has a proper layout and structure.

1. What is your worst fear? Write a paragraph about a character who shares

that fear. Next write a paragraph about a character who finds that fear

trivial.

2. Create a character who has invented his own past as differing from the

character’s actual background. Relate (via the character) the invented past in

first person. For a challenge, go back and write the invented past a second

time in third person.

3. What happens next? The girl was 17 years old and well-dressed. She was sitting in the classroom and
doing her homework. In the corner sat a boy. He was talking angrily to her, but in a quiet voice.

“No!” She said suddenly.

She threw her glass of water in his face and ran out of the classroom.

4. What happens next? You are in a typical awkward elevator ride with a group of other people,
suddenly a man says “So, I bet you are wondering why I’ve gathered you here” Before hitting the
emergency button.

5. The title story. Start a story by writing the title first.

6. The Marvel Superhero: You are just a small town girl / boy, living in a lonely world. One night, you
took the midnight train and got lost. You suddenly ended up at a laboratory where you saw people
wrapped in leaves in a bottle. You wanted to see more, but suddenly you got stung by a bee.

7. Who to trust? : You are told that you are about to enter a room with one person that wants to kill you,
and two people who would do anything to save your life. Inside, you find your two best friends and your
crust.

8. How will the story end? Watch one of the following animation movies and then determine how the
story is going to end. You have to have your own title? Animation 1: Let Girls Dream. 2. Hair love 3 The
Present Snack attack The Scary School Teacher / Horror ( For the Scary schoolteacher assignment, watch
the video for 4 – 5 minutes and then decide how the story will end).

*Write a story of between 550 – 650 words*


9. The third person, including the third person limited point of view. Look at a trailer from a movie. Do
no watch the movie. Based on the trailer, write a story in the third person limited point of view.

10. Creative writing. It is 4 am. You are in a deep sleep, and suddenly you hear someone or something
banging around in the kitchen. Your parents and siblings are sleeping, but the noises you hear are getting
more intensively. You then begin to smell something cooking.
