Individual part
1. Introduce about yourself? (Personal and background)
-Firstly, thank you for the time and opportunity that you have given me. Let me
introduce myself. My name is Eowyn Eummah Anak Stever. I am from Serian, Sarawak. I
am a first-year civil engineering student at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, usually called
Unimas. My interests are reading books and listening to music. I am someone who
learns quickly and works hard. I have two goals. My short-term goal is to finish my
degree at Unimas with a flying colour result. My long-term goal is can contribute in
developing Sarawak and making Sarawak’s name famous in our country. I apply for this
Sarawak Energy scholarship because I need financial support for educational purposes.
That’s all from me. I am very pleased to be able to meet you here at this interview
session. Thank you.
2. What is your biggest achievement? (star method)
Situation: My biggest achievement was I can get back up to achieve something that I think is
possible at first because I already lost my loved one. My grandmother died when my final
exam is around the corner. She is someone who is always taking care of me since a child.
Then, 3 days before the exam I resolved to myself to stay positive, take control of the
situation, and find a way to start over and rebuild. I try flashback to what my late
grandmother has said to me before she died. She said I need to become a successful person
in our family so that I can support my family in the future. I manage to adapt to the situation
after a year and learn how much family is important in our life.
3. What are the most important leadership qualities?
- The most important quality of a good leader is confidence. As we all know, a leader must have
sufficient self-confidence to engage in risky actions that group members may be against. It is this
confidence that leads other people to follow in the footsteps of a leader.
- a leader cannot be a liar. Honesty is a vital ingredient of trust, so a leader must always be honest to
the group members. Honesty strengthens the bond that a leader shares with group members and
develops respect toward the leader. An uncertain and dishonest leader would find it very difficult to
get the respect of others and soon lose their confidence. A leader must not only be honest to others
but also to themselves and what they do.
- Communication is a very important part of a team. Poor communication results in
misunderstanding and misinterpretation, and creates confusion among the group members. Good
communication, on the other hand, helps to reduce the chance of mistakes and build a team spirit
that helps prevent misunderstanding. Thus, a leader must be able to communicate well with others.
The use of proper language is a vital aspect of maintaining good communication. Criticism if offered,
should be constructive and can give benefit to the entire group or organization.

8. Any Questions For Us?
- Is there any criteria for scholarship applicants as desired by the organizers?
- Is there a next selection stage after the interview?
4. Tell us about your greatest strength and greatest weakness.
- My greatest strength is that I can prioritize what needs to be done first today and which
tasks can wait until tomorrow. Because of this, I’m efficient with my time management
and can succeed in study and extracurricular activities. However, my greatest weakness
is that I can become too focused on one task and forget about other assignments or
projects which need attention. I’ve been working on this by setting reminders in my
calendar throughout the day.
-
5. How to supply energy to rural areas?
- Key approaches used to increase the productive applications of the power generated under
the project include the promotion of entrepreneurship and the dovetailing of government
schemes, such as integrated child development schemes. In this way, the project adheres to
a sustainable and integrated concept addressing environmental, economic, and social
concerns.
- Rural electrification is key in developing countries to encourage youth and skilled personnel
to stay in rural for production activities. The lack of a grid network in Tanzania currently
discourages youth and skilled personnel to live in rural areas. Tanzania has diverse
renewable energy which need to be developed for electricity generation. Most of these
sources are found in rural areas but they are not developed and grid networks are not
extended because of low population density. The government has put in place a policy that
encourages small power producers to develop renewable energy resources. The energy
produced would be sold to the community directly or to the government-owned company
for grid integration. This paper discussed three major renewable energy sources such as
wind, solar, and hydropower. Electrifying rural areas will encourage youth to reside in their
communities and engage themselves in production activities like farming and livestock
keeping. Also, communication among communities and networks between rural-urban
would be improved. The establishment of small industries would lead to more farm products
and earn more money. Therefore, the strong links between rural-urban communities would
be strengthened; hence youth migration would be stopped naturally.
6. Why u take an engineering course?
- A career in engineering gives you the opportunity to solve problems and design things that
really matter, things that make the world a better place in which to live. As an engineer, you
can use your knowledge to find solutions that no one else has thought of; it's an opportunity
to make the world a better place.
7. Why u need this scholarship?
- “I chose this scholarship because the scholarship organizers have covered all educational
costs every semester. Thus have become the focus of attention to create a young generation
who are intellectual and can contribute according to the scientific fields chosen by
prospective scholarship recipients. I will not regret choosing this scholarship because it
aligns with the organizer’s goal of creating future leaders.”
*why deserve?
- “I believe I deserve this scholarship because I have genuine, achievable plans for my career
and I also understand I will only achieve those if I apply myself throughout my studies. I’ve
been reading the book THE ONE THING and it has taught me the importance of applying
yourself and being consistent in the work you do, and also making sure you do it to the right
standard. If I am fortunate enough to get this scholarship, I will be 100% committed to my
studies and I will repay the trust you will have shown in me by being a model student, by
supporting others and by ensuring I achieve my goals.”
9. "Who is your role model?"
- “My role model is my family, especially my mother. The way she takes care of her
responsibility effortlessly is worthy of admiration. My mother is an ambitious lady, mothers deal
with so many things simultaneously, and balancing all her responsibilities shows she is an excellent
worker and has time management skills. She has always excelled in all her roles as a worker as well
as a mother. I have always been awed at how gracefully she manages everything and want to follow
in her footsteps in my life as well. I know I can’t be exactly like her, but it is extremely important to
be able to balance family and career. disputes gracefully and without taking sides at work. "
