Introduction to InFusion View

This chapter introduces InFusion View and discusses the applications and
configurators accessible from InFusion View, as well as multiple monitor
support and printer setup.

Contents
• Overview of InFusion View
• Configurators
• Printer Setup

Overview of InFusion View

InFusion View is an InTouch application that provides the user an interface to
the process.
From InFusion View, you can interact with any or all of the real-time plant,
field, and process data available in the I/A Series system, as well as ArchestrA
Data Access Servers and data from Application Objects running in InFusion
Application Environments.
InFusion View provides:
• Direct access to dynamic process windows
• Access to InFusion Historian historical data
• Service and display of process and system alarms, using the Alarm Panel
• InFusion View Block Select, which in turn, provides an overview of the
I/A Series compounds and blocks in the control database, and access to
faceplate overlays
• Access to the Trend window that presents and allows you to manage data
to view various trending selections.
• Access to other applications (if permitted), such as:
• InFusion System Manager for interacting with the I/A Series
hardware
• InTouch WindowMaker for building and configuring dynamic user
graphics

InFusion View User’s Guide

2

• InFusion View Framer for configuration of InFusion View window

navigation hierarchies, alarm assignments to annunciator keys, and
InFusion View properties
• I/A Series PLB Monitor, for interacting with I/A Series PLB block
ladder logic
• I/A Series Calibrate Touchscreen utility, for calibrating the optional
touchscreen
• InFusion Engineering Environment (IEE) for configuring the
I/A Series control database, as well as ArchestrA application objects
• ArchestrA System Management Console for viewing ArchestrA
logging messages

I/A Series Hardware

Your I/A Series system can include these hardware items:
• Fieldbus modules, fieldbus processors, and power modules
• Modular industrial workstations
• Personal workstations
• Application workstations
• Multi-monitor workstations
• Pointing devices, including mice, trackballs, or touchscreens
• Printers
• Annunciator keyboards
• Data storage devices.

Multi-monitor Workstations
An I/A Series workstation can support multiple monitors. This feature allows a
workstation to display up to four times as much information as can be viewed
on a single screen.
A Windows XP-based P92 workstation can be configured for up to four
monitors and four touchscreens. InFusion View does not support multiple
monitors on Windows Server 2003 P91 workstations.

Note Multiple monitor support requires installation of a new graphics driver.

Refer to the InFusion Enterprise Control System Deployment Guide
(B0750BA) for installation instructions.

When configured for multiple monitor operation, monitors share a single

keyboard and pointing device, and the cursor moves from one monitor to the
other monitor.
Multi-monitor workstations can support:
• Four annunciator keyboards
• Four annunciator keyboard horns

InFusion View User’s Guide

Introduction to InFusion View 3

• Two console horns

When configured for multi-monitor operation, standard (non-touchscreen)
monitors share a single keyboard and pointing device, and the cursor moves
from one screen to the other screen.

Startup InFusion View

InFusion View runs only on I/A Series workstations with I/A Series software
Version 8.2 installed. InFusion View is configured to start automatically when
the I/A Series workstation reboots. In addition, InFusion View can be restarted
by selecting the “Restart InFusion View” option on the File menu.
When InFusion View starts, both the InTouch WindowViewer and the InFusion
View Alarm Server are started. Both applications need to be running for full
InFusion View functionality.
If InFusion View needs to be started manually, it can be started from the task
bar Start menu. Select Programs > Invensys > InFusion View > View and
Alarm Server. Use this menu pick to start InFusion View from a remote
terminal session. This menu pick ensures full functionality for both local and
remote sessions of InTouch.
Do not start InFusion View from the WindowViewer pick under Wonderware,
as this pick will start InFusion View without the required functionality.

Configurators

WindowMaker
WindowMaker is the window builder/configurator used to create and
maintain graphic windows for viewing process dynamics.
Use WindowMaker drawing tools to:
• Create process windows representing the plant, a process area, or a portion
of the process.
• Connect graphical objects to process variables and operator picks,
providing dynamic updates as a method of interacting with the process.
Refer to the WindowMaker On-Line Help or the InTouch User’s Guide for
more information.

InFusion View Framer

InFusion View Framer is used to:
• Configure the hierarchical structure of process graphic windows. This tree
defines the up/down/right/left relationships among InTouch windows.
This hierarchy can be up to three levels deep.
• Assign windows and alarm tags to hardware annunciator keys and to the
navigation hierarchy.

InFusion View User’s Guide

4

• Configure common alarm queries and other InTouch properties.

• Configure HMI Properties, text messages monitor layouts and
permissions.

Printer Setup
The default graphics printer is the default workstation printer.

Item Description
Automatically scales the value axis range
to reflect the actual data currently being
displayed for the trend. For example, if
Autoscale Tag the default value axis range is 0 to 3000,
and the data ranged from 1827 to 2059,
the scale might be automatically adjusted
to a range of 1800 to 2100. The adjusted
scale does not exactly match the actual
minimum and maximum data values for
the chart. The calculation rounds the
values so as to make the chart easier to
read. Also, a percentage allocation is
added to the final values so that the
adjusted scale fits within the boundaries
of the trend chart. Therefore, the adjusted
scale will be a round number slightly
above the actual data values. You can
automatically scale a single tag or all of
the tags in a trend. For information on
resetting scale back to the original default,
see Returning Tags to Their Original
Scale. Autoscaling is not performed
continually for a trend. Also, if the
trended data includes points outside of the

Window Menu
The Window menu opens the Navigation Panel in vertical or horizontal
format, depending on which navigation preference is set, as discussed in
“Preferences” on page 45. Navigation Panels can be used to easily navigate to
any configured window. These panels can identify any windows that are in a
configured alarm state.
The Navigation Panels are divided into 3 levels: Areas, Cells, and Units.
There are 12 Areas at the top level. Each Area has its own set of 12 Cells and
each Cell has its own set of 12 Units. Every Area, Cell or Unit can be assigned
a window and alarm using the InFusion View Framer. All active alarms
propagate up to their parent level, which enables the operator to find and
identify windows in alarm easier.

Overview
InFusion View Block Select (the Compound and Block Overview window)
provides a representation of control databases.
Use InFusion View Block Select to:
• Bring faceplate overlays into InFusion View.
• Turn ON and OFF I/A Series compounds and their associated blocks.
• Expand a list of the network’s stations and I/A Series compounds,
revealing the hierarchical structure of the control database.
• View a list of blocks within all connected stations, and sort the list by
different criteria.
The InFusion View Block Select window provides two views, as shown in
Figure 4-1.

Figure 4-1. InFusion View Block Select Views

• Station View: A scrollable hierarchical view of stations and I/A Series
compounds on the left panel and a list of blocks for the selected compound
on the right panel.
For more information, refer to “Viewing the Control Database” on
page 102.
• Block View: A scrollable and sortable list of blocks within all connected
stations.
For more information, refer to “Viewing the Block List” on page 102.

Note The data in Station View and Block View are not updated until you
perform a Refresh operation on the stations.

Note Block Select only provides data that has been downloaded to the
Control Station. It does not include the Strategy hierarchy, as Strategies are not
part of the I/A Series Control database.

Station View
The I/A Series database is organized by stations, I/A Series compounds, and
blocks. The database can be viewed by placing InFusion View Block Select in
Station View. The stations and I/A Series compounds appear on the left panel
of the screen, while the blocks for the selected compound appear on the right
panel.

Stations in the Database

When you open the InFusion View Block Select window for the first time
after installation, only the stations appear. Each station, represented by a
station icon, indicates its connection status, as listed in the table below.

Station Icon Connection Status Indicates

Unconnected No attempt was made to connect
the station, or the station has been
marked to be excluded from
Refresh All. An out-of-network
station (a station that is not on
/etc/wpcplns file), when
unconnected, displays the same
icon as that of the connected
station, but deletes all I/A Series
compounds and blocks from the
station view and block view.
Note: A Refresh All does not
change the connection status of
unconnected stations.
Connected InFusion View Block Select has
successfully retrieved data for the
station. Out-of-network stations
are displayed with a green icon
rather than blue.
Failed connection Attempts to connect the station
have failed, rendering the data
unavailable.

Interfacing with InFusion View

Access for turning I/A Series compounds ON or OFF is based on the current
state of InFusion View. If turning I/A Series compounds ON and OFF is
protected in InFusion View, this capability is protected in InFusion View
Block Select.

Note If you enable access in InFusion View, you must restart InFusion View
Block Select to read the new access information.

Turning I/A Series compounds ON and OFF is performed by the associated

InFusion View. InFusion View Block Select sends a message to the
associated InFusion View. The InFusion View Block Select window is not
updated with new ON/OFF status information until all the I/A Series
compounds have been processed by InFusion View.
Since turning compounds ON and OFF is through InFusion View, these
actions are subject to the logging properties and security of that instance of
InFusion View. The action will be logged by the Platform object for the
workstation, if the Platform object has been configured as an Alarm Provider.
When running multiple InFusion View sessions, be aware that InFusion View
Block Select communicates with the InFusion View from which it was
invoked.
Refer to InFusion View Framer (B0750AR) document for more information
on configuring access to Block Select.
