Writing Is A Process
Writing Is A Process
I believe that writing is a process, but is not a process of writing. In fact, writing is a process that
is way more complex. For me, I deem that writing is a process of researching. In numerous areas
of writing, I’d like to divide those areas into four major kinds of writing by my writing
experience to explain my points of view. The first kind of writing is research writing, which
requires the author to research, organize, and study others’ research results and data. Research
papers and literature reviews are good examples of this kind of writing. Consequently, research
writing is more of a process of researching scientific materials or other’s studies. The second
kind of writing is personal writing, which requires the author to come up with his/her own
opinion. Also, most of this kind of writing needs the author to remember and search for his/her
own memories and experiences. Memoirs and diary books are examples of this kind of writing.
As for me, this type of writing is more of a process of researching your own mind and memories.
The third type is imaginary writing. This kind of writing is not completely imaginary, the stories
are mainly formed and created by one’s unique thoughts and experiences. Meanwhile, this kind
of writing might also be based on the real world and society. Consequently, this kind of writing is
a process of researching the world: both the real world and the world in your heart. The final one
is functional writing, like instruction books, textbooks, and travel guides. This kind of writing
has a really specific function and usage. And functional writing is a process of researching the
audience.
Reflect: Nothing needs to revise on this concept, and I think that I make a comprehensive
understanding and explanation
Reflect: My idea is vague and I want to make some modifications. All writers have more to
learn, but the ultimate goal is to learn about the world.
writing is impacted by identities and prior experiences
I agree that identities and prior experiences will impact the writing, no matter how big the impact
is. Even for some genres that only require summarizing and organizing other’s research and
opinions, the process of researching will also be based on your experiences of how to research,
and the structure of the passage is also based on what you learned before. Although the impact
isn’t that significant, there is an influence. For the rest of the genres that require your personal
thoughts and ideas, identities and prior experiences will make a critical impact. Because the
material of these kinds of writing is based on yourself, it is no doubt that everyone has their own
experiences and eyesight.
Reflect: I will agree with this statement I wrote, which is that everyone has their own eyesight
and background. Even for a research paper, researching itself is prior experience.
Reflect: I agree that “good” writing is contextual and should be analyzed from many angles, like
social background, historical background, or even the author’s background.
Reflect: I agree with this idea because I think that writing is a way of communication. This
communication is deeper and requires more thinking and research, just like I said that writing is
a process of research. Through this deep communication, people definitely can get things done.
Reflect: Self-reflection is more important than others’ opinions. Because your essay incorporates
your cultural identity and eyesight, which is much more valuable to you than others.
Reflect: I will say it depends. Although writing doesn’t have a standard of “good”, “bad” writing
does. I believe that the major idea of bad writing is there is no knowledge-making activity.
