INTRODUCTION

A student's allowance is the amount of money that a student is entitled to

daily. A student's allowance is a finance that is received from parents and guardians

alike, it can be of any value but depends on how much a student is saving or how

much allowance they were given. On the other hand, Determination is the firmness

of one's purpose, the fixed intention to achieve a desired end. (Determination,

n.d.). Students' determination has a major involvement that takes a student's life to a

next level if nurtured properly. The determination comes from certain things that they

will take as a form of "motivation" or inspiration to continue tasks and manage their

school life. Inspiration is something that moves you to act, create, or imagine new

possibilities. (Milligan, 2021, para. 1).

A student requires allowance for certain requirements they need to meet in

school, such as money for purchasing needs (snacks, drinks, etc.) and academic

purposes (Performance tasks, activities, etc.). Finance is one of the factors that get

students to be more determined in their studies. Some students are motivated if they

are given something in return for studying, some are determined to study because of

grades, some are for other materialistic rewards such as toys or other items, and

some are determined to just achieve success.

Student allowance and student determination can be 2 very different things,

but the researchers would like to connect these two. The researchers know that

determination comes from various sources that serve as motivation. With

this knowledge, the researchers would like to focus more and know more about how

motivated a student is in studying if their allowance is involved. Financial motivation

involves money or money-related things to encourage employees to perform better.

(Nasrudin, 2022, para. 10). The researchers will first gather the data through

physical interviews with the questions; How much is your allowance? Are you

motivated because of this said allowance? - The data recorded will help achieve the

research’s purpose.

The purpose of the research is to assess how determined students of Liceo U

Junior Highschool are when correlated with their allowance. While money is just a

currency to some people, most people think that it is a great motivator. Money is an

urgent means of achieving a minimum standard of living. (Money as a Motivator,

n.d., para. 4). With this statement in mind, the researchers would like to see and

prove that money can be a major factor in a student’s determination to study. This

research will be of significance for the students for them to know how to manage

their allowance and can evaluate its value of it. It can also assess and inform the

students on how finance can be a huge factor in their motivation in studying. The

researchers have found a recent study that was conducted with the same variables.

The researchers will use their research topic as inspiration:

The research study "School Allowance and Student's Determination in

studies" was published on March 26, 2020, by Dr. Jerald C. Moneva, Dr. Rey C.

Miralles, and

Jonathan Raman can be related to the researcher's research topic "Correlating

Student's allowance and Student's determination to study". 

This research study was held to associate the student's allowance and if they

are determined because of it. The methodology was quantitative with a descriptive

survey. (Moneva, et al., 2020). The results of this study show that there is no

association between the student's allowance and their determination. This study also

tells how it is important it is to know whether socioeconomic status affects the

performance and the determination of the students. (ibid.)

The researchers mainly had Senior High students as their respondents, the

study was conducted at Jagobiao National High School. After the research that was

conducted, the results show that Students’ determination in studies did not affect

whether the school allowance of the students is high or low. The students who have

a high or low socioeconomic status did not affect their performance in school the

student’s willingness in school was the major factor of why students are eager to

study. The research concluded that to improve a student’s determination to study,

they first must be interested in going to school.

With this related study, the researchers were inspired to know more about the

research topic “Correlating Student’s Allowance and Student’s Determination

to Study”.

THE RESULTS OF THE DATA GATHERED:

Here are the results. The researchers have 25 interviewees that took part in

the study, illustrated in bar graph is the question: How much is your allowance per

day? – Whilst the pie graph illustration is for the question: Are you motivated to study

because of your allowance?

SUMMARY

The results of our presented data had a major help in attaining the research

topic's purpose. The methodology of this study is quantitative - Making use of the

Frequency Distribution table for the allowance range and a yes or no table for the

question: "Are you determined to study because of your allowance?". The gathered

data that was through the physical interview was a success and was able to give

interesting results. The results of the data collected states that 52% or 13 of our

interviewee's allowances belong in the 100-149P range, 20% or 5 in the 200-249P

range, 16% or 4 in the 300-349P range, 4% or 1 in the 50-99 range, 4% or 1 in the

250-299P range, and 4% or 1 in the 500-549P range.

After the results, the researchers took time to also measure the positions of

the grouped data. Therefore the 85th percentile of the students’ allowance belong

approximately to 315.13. The 3rd quartile of the students’ allowance range is

approximately 247. Lastly, The 3rd decile of the student’s allowance range is

approximately 124.5.

CONCLUSION

The Liceo’s Junior high school students’ allowances were a major factor on

why they were determined to study. Student’s finance does have a major

involvement on why these students are determined and still are. There are

numerous aspects that affects a student's determination, correlating their allowance

with their determination gave interesting results that helped achieve the research

topic’s purpose, which is to assess how determined students are when correlated

with their allowance.

The collected data states that a lot of the interviewees in the Junior High School are

in fact motivated because of their allowance. 72% of the students said "Yes" and

28% responded "No," meaning that students who are motivated to study receives a

stipend that satisfies and helps them become more motivated. The students are still

able to study with little to no allowance and the researchers are still finding ways to

combat demotivation and lack of inspiration in studying. In the future, the

researchers hope for every student to enjoy learning out of willingness rather than

things they’ll receive if they study well. But with this research study, we are able to

identify a student’s behavior and can help them be more motivated with allowance or

other types of money-related things.

Daily allowance given to students does matter and has an impact on their

motivation to study based solely on the quantitative data of the interviewees to our

study. It is also wiser to keep in mind that there are additional aspects outside the

students' allotted allowance that influence their success in school. More studies and

research is needed to maintain and possibly boost a student’s motivation, there are

still many ways in order to do this but until then, finance and allowance of students

are still considered to be a great motivator. Determination is about staying focused

on a goal. And as long as you have a goal, you can create paths to that goal.

The researchers have found that majority of the interviewees were motivated

by their allowance, but doesn’t necessarily mean it is their primary source of

determination. This research study is conducted with a great belief of assuming that

these students do accept the fact that they are motivated due to the allowance

received, but in the context of it only being a major part of their motivation.
