INTRODUCTION

Automation – It is a term for technology applications where human input is minimized.

This includes business process automation (BPA), IT automation, personal
applications such as home automation and more.

It has become one of the key interests in the modern-day technology. Everybody tends to
use automated devices in his or her daily activities due to several reasons ranging from
safety to ease of handling. Initially, the automation systems were limited to industries as it
required significant investments, but with the development of the technology, automation
has become available to everyone.
Home automation systems are very popular in the world these days. Many types of research
have been carried out into this area, and some commercial products are also available, but
the room for development is still very high, and the technology advances daily. Unlike the
normal system, the automated home will have additional benefits.
As the electric system is automated, it will save electricity by switching off the appliances
when they are not required. On the other hand, as the appliances can be remotely
controlled, the user can decide what to do even he is not at home.
The systems can be developed to a level where the security of the house can be improved.
One of the famous home automation solutions is to use a dedicated system connected to an
application installed on the user’s smartphone. The combination of these two hardware and
software allows greater control over home automation and put it all in the user’s hand.
Our project aims to create a smart automated fan which can be remotely operated by
smartphones and saves energy.

1. Identification of Client /Need / Relevant Contemporary issue

Now a day everyone is looking towards smarter and automated technologies. Automation
has become one of the key areas on which world focusses at present. People tend to modify
things which are often used so that they can be controlled by themselves or remotely by
human intervention. This is why Smart Technology is being chosen by many researchers and
then they work on different methodologies to achieve their objectives.
A smart fan model may be required due to the following reasons by the client:

 Env ronmental Concerns: Energy consumption by automated devices is

a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The smart fan model would
help
individuals and businesses save energy and contribute in saving the environment, also
leading to cost savings on energy bills.

 Cost Sav ngs: People generally find automated devices high-priced. The smart
energy-saving fan along with being an energy saver would also be pocket friendly
and thus affordable due to which a larger consumer range can be targeted.

 Comfort Requ rements: Nowadays everyone wants a comfortable life

and comfort starts from home. Thus, all of us want to have smart automated
appliances to minimise the human efforts and provide relaxation. The smart fan
would help the consumers to experience the comfort they require.

 Easy To Use: The requirements of consumers also highlight the issue of complex
handling. The smart fan would be easy to operate just by the smartphones of user.

2. Identification of Task:
The difficulty level of the project is medium. The project required the use of various technical
skills, including circuit design and construction, programming, and mobile application development.
It also required an understanding of IoT-based systems and their potential for improving the
functionality of home appliances.

The new concept of integration of home environment with information technologies into a
well communicates in a one body manner to conserve the electrical power, ease of use and
energy efficient system also at safety perspective benefits.
As known in home automation system various home appliances are connected to each other
using information technology to enhance the energy efficiency and security system.
Overall, the task of the Smart Energy- Saving Fan project was to develop a comprehensive IoT-based
solution for managing ceiling fans in homes, with a focus on providing users with greater control,
convenience, and energy efficiency.

3. Background:
The Internet of Things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects—“things”—that are
embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting
and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet.
Over the past few years, IoT has become one of the most important technologies of the 21st
century. Now that we can connect everyday objects—kitchen appliances, cars, thermostats,
baby monitors—to the internet via embedded devices, seamless communication is possible
between people, processes, and things.
By means of low-cost computing, the cloud, big data, analytics, and mobile technologies,
physical things can share and collect data with minimal human intervention. In this
hyperconnected world, digital systems can record, monitor, and adjust each interaction
between connected things. The physical world meets the digital world—and they cooperate.

The Smart Energy Saving Fan project is designed to provide users with greater control over
their fan and increase energy efficiency. The project includes a mobile application that
allows users to turn the fan on/off, adjust the speed, and set a timer remotely. The project
also includes a temperature and humidity sensor that automatically adjusts the fan speed
based on the ambient temperature and humidity level.
The motivation behind the Smart Energy Saving Fan project is the increasing demand for
energy-efficient and cost-effective home appliances. Traditional fans consume a lot of
energy and are not always energy efficient.
The project aims to address these issues by providing users with greater control and energy
efficiency. IoT-based home appliances have several advantages over traditional appliances.
For instance, IoT based appliances can be controlled remotely using a mobile application,
which provides greater convenience to users. IoT-based appliances can also be programmed
to operate at certain times or when certain conditions are met, which improves energy
efficiency. Additionally, IoT-based appliances can be monitored and controlled in real-time,
which allows for timely and accurate maintenance.
In conclusion, the Smart Fan project is a great example of how IoT can be used to create
innovative and energy-efficient home appliances. The project aims to provide users with
greater control over their fan and increase energy efficiency. IoT-based home appliances
have several advantages over traditional appliances, including greater convenience, energy
efficiency, and real-time monitoring and control. The project is just one example of the
potential of IoT to revolutionize the way we interact with home appliances.

4. Technologies that have made IoT possible:-

While the idea of IoT has been in existence for a long time, a collection of recent advances in
a number of different technologies has made it practical.

 Access to low-cost, low-power sensor technology. Affordable and reliable

sensors are making IoT technology possible for more manufacturers.

 Connectivity. A host of network protocols for the internet has made it easy to
connect sensors to the cloud and to other “things” for efficient data transfer.

 Cloud computing platforms. The increase in the availability of cloud platforms

enables both businesses and consumers to access the infrastructure they need to
scale up without actually having to manage it all.
 Machine learning and analytics. With advances in machine learning and analytics,
along with access to varied and vast amounts of data stored in the cloud,
businesses can gather insights faster and more easily. The emergence of these
allied technologies continues to push the boundaries of IoT and the data
produced by IoT also feeds these technologies.

 Conversational artificial intelligence (AI). Advances in neural networks have

brought natural-language processing (NLP) to IoT devices (such as digital personal
assistants Alexa, Cortana, and Siri) and made them appealing, affordable, and
viable for home use.

5. Methodology:-

We are designing an IoT based Energy Efficient Smart Ceiling Fan for a Home Automation
module.

 We are designing an IoT based energy-efficient smart ceiling fan that we can control
remotely using a smart device. The system uses a microcontroller that communicates
with a Wi-Fi module.
 Based on the user's input, the microcontroller is responsible for controlling the speed
of the fan. The user can control the fan using a smart app that communicates with
the Wi-Fi module.
 It may also include a temperature and humidity sensor that based on the room's
temperature and humidity levels is used to automatically adjust the speed of the fan.
 We are going to use Ubidots which is a cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) data
analytics and visualization platform and MIT App Inventor, which is an intuitive,
visual programming environment that allows everyone even children to build fully
functional apps for smartphones and tablets
 We are using Ubidots and MIT App Inventor to connect the Relay(sensors) to ESP32
and create a smart app that can control the smart fan remotely or give the fan
automation to control the speed according to the room temperature and pressure.
 Our design will have a microcontroller, Wi-Fi module, and temperature and humidity
sensor. The microcontroller can communicate with the Wi-Fi module using a serial
communication protocol. The Wi-Fi module can communicate with the smart app
using the Wi-Fi network. The temperature and humidity sensor will be connected to
the microcontroller using analog inputs.
 The microcontroller will be programmed to control the speed of the fan based on the
user's input. The user can control the fan using the smartphone app. The app will
send commands to the Wi-Fi module, which then will communicate with the
microcontroller. The microcontroller will adjust the speed of the fan based on the
user's input.
 The temperature and humidity sensor will be used to automatically adjust the speed
of the fan. The temperature and humidity sensor can measure the room's
temperature and humidity levels and send the data to the microcontroller. The
microcontroller will adjust the speed of the fan based on the temperature and
humidity levels.

6. Results:-
The results of the experiments show that the proposed system is more energy-efficient than
a traditional ceiling fan. The energy consumption of the proposed system is 40% lower than
a traditional ceiling fan. The system also provides better comfort as it adjusts the speed of
the fan based on the temperature and humidity levels in the room.

7. Conclusion:-
In this paper, we have presented an IoT-based energy-efficient smart ceiling fan for home
