Corporate Management Procedure
Design Coordination
1.0 Purpose

This procedure describes the requirements on design coordination to ensure that design drawings
are adequately coordinated between all disciplines to provide a timely and fully integrated design
that will facilitate the construction, testing and commissioning of the works.

2.0 Scope

This procedure is applicable for all projects unless otherwise determined by the applicable
authorities.

5.0 Responsibilities

The following personnel have responsibilities mentioned in this procedure:

Project Engineering Manager

Project Planning Manager

HLMR Board

6.0 Procedure

6.1 General

The Design Coordination process and its associated review processes shall be integrated into the
project program.

6.2 Coordination Planning

a) During the pre-contract phase and I or during the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) I
Conceptual Engineering phase of a project, the Project Engineering Manager shall determine
the Engineering Deliverables list which shall include all necessary coordination
documentation to ensure that adequate coordination of the works across a// disciplines is
satisfactorily implemented.

b) The Project Engineering Manager with the Project Planning Manager shall ensure that all
Engineering Deliverables including those associated with the design coordination works
shall be included in the project schedule and their planned issuance dates determined.

c) The Project Engineering Plan shall detail how effective coordination between all the
engineering discipline Consultants (e.g. civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical,
plumbing etc.) will be completed to provide a timely integrated design. Any necessary
supplementary project instructions required to detail this process shall be developed.

Corporate Management Procedure
Design Coordination
d) Regular Design Coordination meetings shall be conducted throughout the duration of
the design and construction phase of the project. The frequency of the meetings and the
associated attendees shall be in accordance with the Project Engineering Plan.

e) Wherever appropriate, the coordination of the works shall include a review of the
Existing Facilities. In this case, all necessary design documentation and "as built"
drawings for any existing facilities shall be obtained and verified.

6.3 Interfaces

Interfaces shall be addressed as part of design coordination whether they be:

i. Functional Interface: Details the functional responsibility e.g. task, activity or action of
the interfacing systems.

ii. Performance Interface: Details the interface parameters e.g. density, strength,
pressure, temperature, flow rate, voltage, power etc.

iii. Design Interface Constraint: Details the specific codes and standards applicable to
the interface etc.

iv. Physical Interface Requirements: Details the specific requirements at the

interface boundary e.g. size, location, dimensions, materials, orientation etc.

v. External Interface: Details interfaces at the boundary of the project e.g. with
external agencies, utilities, existing facilities etc.

vi. Internal Interface: Details interfaces within the project e.g. sub-projects, sub-systems, sub
contract packages and vendor
demarcations

6.4 Engineering Deliverables

The sections below list and describe examples of the engineering deliverables that are
required during the design coordination exercise.

6.4.1 Civil, Structural and Architectural

Coordinated civil, structural and architectural drawings, details and documents shall include but
not necessarily be limited to the following:

i. Conceptual Civil I Structural I Architectural

Layouts ii.Plot layouts

iii. Architectural

Layouts iv.

Structural Layouts

v. Architectural Construction Detail

Drawings vi. Structural Construction

Detail Drawings

vii. Reflected Ceiling plans

6.4.2 Steelwork

Steelwork Support System drawings shall include:

i. architectural elements (e.g. curtain walling etc)

ii. M&E services e.g. Steel work between primary steel, ensuring purlins have
adequate services loadings incorporated into their design etc.

6.4.3 Finishes

i. Finishes Construction Detail

Drawings ii. Finishes schedule

6.5 Coordinated Services Drawings

The production of detailed Coordinated Services Drawings (CSDs) should be considered, when
services are sufficiently complex. Specialist consultants can be engaged to prepare these drawings.

6.6 Builder's Work

a) All builders’ work information shall be coordinated with the services and shall be suitably
detailed on the Consultants I Contractors coordinated builder's work drawings.

b) All builder's work openings and plant bases I plinths or structures etc. shall be reviewed and
dimensions verified to ensure that they are adequate and make all necessary provision for the
M&E Services that pass through them. The need to keep any 'making good' (final finishing)
and fire stopping should be kept to an absolute minimum.
