B. Reason

(1) Objective: To remove a particular ball lot of No. 2 Bearing,


PN 759020, from service.

(2) Problem: The durability of the bearings from this ball lot has
been unsatisfactory.

(3) Cause: Cracking or spalling of one or more bearing balls.

(4) Background: Instances have been reported of increased rates of


bearing ball fractures in bearings from Ball Lot 3024Bl.

C. Description

Determine which engines contain a suspect’No. 2 bearing. When the


No. 2 bearing area is accessible, replace each such bearing with a
nonsuspect bearing.

D. Approval

The part replacement described in Paragraphs 2. and 3. of this


Service Bulletin has been shown to comply with the applicable Federal
Aviation Regulations and is FAA-Approved for the engine models
listed.

E. Compliance

Category 5

Accomplish when the engine is disassembled sufficiently to afford


access to the affected subassembly (i.e., modules, accessories,
components, build groups) and to all affected spare subassemblies.

2. Accomplishment Instructions
P. . Determine which engines contain the following PN 759020, No. 2
Bearings. See Figure 1.
(1) Ball Lot No. 3024Bl -

Bearing Serial No. 0198 through 0200, 0202 through 0208, 0211,
0214 through 0216, 0250, 0251, 0254 through
0259, 0270, 0271, 0276, 0278 through 0283,
0285, 0286, 0288 and 0292.

B. Gain access to No. 2 bearing per instructions described in


Reference (31, Chapter/Section 72-34-20, Disassembly-01. Replace
each above listed bearing with Bearing, PN 759022, or a different
serial number PH 759020 bearing. Install the new bearing per
instructions described in Reference (31, Chapter/Section 72-34-20,
Assembly-01.
rU. Suspect No. 2 bearings may be returned to TRW/MRCfor new balls,
rematching and, if required, rehoning and cage rework. See
Reference (4), SB 4247.
