Challenges Widget 2 Project

The document summarizes challenges faced in the Widget 2 Project, including a lack of resource planning, unclear goals and objectives, lack of project visibility, communication gaps, and scope creep. It then outlines three key tasks for a report on improving the project: 1) critically analyze the project's performance considering key performance indicators, advantages/disadvantages of spreadsheets, and how data analytics can evaluate efficiency and effectiveness; 2) prepare an interview checklist for meeting the project manager; and 3) formulate recommendations including an action plan and timetable addressing specific and general issues like a project dashboard and potential for a project management office.

Lack of resource planning

Unclear Goals and Objectives
Lack of project visibility
Communication gaps
Scope creep
Unrealistic expectations

Your report should follow standard report format and be accurately referenced. Your
report should include the following
1. A critical analysis of the performance of the Widget 2 project. As a minimum
your analysis you should consider:
a. The role of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
b. The advantages and/or disadvantages of using spreadsheets for data
analytics
c. How data analytics can be used to evaluate the efficiency and
effectiveness of projects
2. Prepare an interview checklist for Jane’s meeting with Ian Phelps, the project
manager, and attach this as an appendix to the report. In the main body of the
report answer the following question: What are the three most important
questions you need to ask him and why.
3. Formulate a set of recommendations including an action plan and suggested
timetable. Your proposals should range from the very specific, for example
what should be included in the project team’s dashboard, to the more general,
for example whether the company should create a project management office,
or a suitable alternative, and if so what its role and structure should be. Also
consider change management principles when finalising your
recommendations (e.g. tackling potential barriers or unwillingness to change).
