INTEGRATION/ 4A’s activity
What I need to know?

We see different kinds of animals around us. They possess characteristics

that make them different from one another.

ACTIVITY
Activity #1
Video Showing
A short video clip about some animals found in the community will be
shown. Prior to video showing, ask the following question: How will you
describe the animals shown in the clip?
After the video showing, ask the following:
1. What are some animals that you saw in the video clip?
2. How will you describe them?
3. How do you think you can group them? (according to characteristics)
4. What are some animals found in your place, which are not shown in the
video? How will you describe them?

Note; Answers to questions will lead to the establishment of the concept that
animals possess different characteristics, thus you can group them
accordingly)

What’s New?

ANALYSIS

Activity #2
To the teacher; Choose two animals used in the video clip representing
vertebrates and invertebrates, e.g. earthworm and dog. Present a picture or a
video of these animals.

Let the pupils analyze the video by answering the following:

1. What are the animals shown in the picture/ video?
2. What are the characteristics that are similar to them?
3. What makes them different?
4. Do you think you can place them in the same group or not? Why?

Note; Answers to the questions must lead to the distinguishing traits of

vertebrates and invertebrates- the presence or absence of bones at the back
(backbones).

B. Development What I Know?

The pupils will be given a 10-item activity to assess what they know about the
lesson. QUIZZIZ

 Teacher will tell the pupils that animals have different characteristics and they are
grouped according to these.
 From the given exercise, the teacher will group the animals into two -Group A
(for vertebrates) and Group B (for invertebrates)
 The following groups represented by pictures of animals will be shown to the
pupils:
Group A Group B
Amphibian Arthropods
Fish Mollusks
Mammals Echinoderms
Birds Cnidarians
reptiles sponges
worms

 Students will analyze the table using the following questions:

a. What are the common characteristics of animals in Group A? Group B?
b. What makes animals from Group A different from Group B? (Emphasize
on the presence of backbones)

What’s In?
ABSTRACTION
 Concepts on the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates will be
shown thru a video presentation. (Video/SONG/CHANT may be taken from a
website or teacher-prepared)
 Learners will determine the advantage of animals having backbones and those
who do not have.
 The different groups of vertebrates will be presented using slide decks from the
teacher.
The different groups of invertebrates will be presented using slide decks from
the teacher.

What is it?
 Picture of different animals will be shown.
 Pupils will describe their characteristics and classify them accordingly
 Issues about these animals will be raised which includes ways of caring for them.

 At this point, ask the pupils if they have questions or clarifications.

 If none, proceed to the next part of the lesson.

What’s more?
Activity #3
Classifying Vertebrate Animals
( please see The New Science Links 6, Activity 4.1, p 193)
Activity #4
Classifying Invertebrate Animals
( please see The New Science Links 6, Activity 4.2, p 211)

C. Engagement
What I can do?
Activity #5

Match column A with column B. Write the letter of the answer on the space
provided before each number.
A B.
1. has a beak and is well adapted to flight a. mammal
2, has gills and fins b. reptile
3. has dry scaly skins c. amphibians
4. has fur and mammary glands d. fish
5. has moist skin and lives on land and water e. bird
6. has segmented legs f. arthropod
7. pore-bearing animals g. mollusks
8. has stinging cells h. echinoderms
9. spiny skinned animals i. cnidarians
10. soft bodied animals j. sponges
What other enrichment activities can I engage in?

Activity #6

We are stewards of God’s creations. Do you think it is appropriate to use animals for
gambling- like cock fight and spider fight? Why? Write a paragraph and post it in our
google classroom.

Use the following rubrics to assess the pupils’ outputs:

Pts. CrIterIa
10 Provides elaborate discussion on topic, clearly expressing ideas, no errors

8 Has one sufficient point, clearly expressing ideas, minimal errors

6 Has expressed a point, presentation is vague, minimal errors

4 Idea expressed is somewhat related to the questions, presentation is vague, many errors

2 Idea unclear, has many errors

D. Assimilation
What I have learned?
Have a sum up what the pupils learn from the lesson. Outputs maybe in the form
of concept map, write up or oral presentation. If oral presentation is chosen,
teacher may give a time limit. Outputs will be uploaded in the google classroom
for checking.

What I can achieve?

APPLICATION
Activity #7
 Presentation of rare animals in the Philippines.
 Pupils will classify them.
 Pupils will think of ways to take care of them thru various ways like
reporting, poster making or jingle making either thru collaboration or
individual,
 Rubrics in assessing performance will be used

Use the following rubrics to assess the pupils’ outputs:

Pts. CrIterIa
10 90% - 100 % of the following criteria were observed originality, creativity, effort in doing
their project and cooperation with the members of the group
8 80% - 89% of the following criteria were observed originality, creativity, effort in doing
their project and cooperation within the members of the group.
6 70% -- 79% of the following criteria were observed originality, creativity, effort in doing
their project and cooperation within the members of the group.
4 60% -69% of the following criteria were observed originality, creativity, effort in doing
their project and cooperation within the members of the group.
2 50% - 59% of the following criteria were observed originality, creativity, effort in doing
their project and cooperation within the members of the group.

V. REFLECTION
 The learners, in their notebook, journal or portfolio will write their personal
insights about the lesson using the prompts below.
