Why is it not a disable to eat snacks while watching TV? Share three practical ways to avoid or to control
consumption of food when watching TV or sports events?
Eating in front of the television interferes with the act of appreciating what you’re eating, causing
you to consume more junk and unhealthy foods that you should avoid. This also suggests that
uncontrolled snacking could lead to obesity. And here are the 3 tips that I can recommend to avoid food
when watching TV. First, you should eat first before watching TV. Second, invite relatives or friends so
you can talk during commercial breaks. And lastly, focus on what you’re watching.

Reflect Upon:
1. What does growing in contemporary society teach you about dieting and health?
Contemporary society teach me that having a healthy lifestyle can improve my quality of
life. If I can follow a healthy diet, it can give me positive changes in my daily life.
2. Which type of media do you think has the biggest effect on people’s perceptions of dieting and
health?
Social Media. Nowadays, we are mainly reliant on our gadgets, and we spend a lot of time
scrolling and watching videos on social media, especially teenagers. In our addiction to social
media, we don't notice that we are neglecting our health, like not getting enough sleep, because
we are just focused on what is happening or the trends on social media. And not following a
healthy diet, because in social media usually you see a lot of pictures of food that will encourage
you to taste it even though you know it's not healthy.
3. Are men and women affected differently by these media narratives? How do the media affect
your decisions on food?
Yes, Men are more likely to use authoritative language and more formal speech than
women. Males respond more negatively in interactions, as well, whereas women tend to use
'warmer' and more positive words.
The media affects our decision on foods by the influence of their popularity. For example,
you’re more likely to follow whichever food habits you see more often on social media. If you
see your Facebook friends posting more about junk food, then you are likely to consume junk
food more often. In addition, adolescents were more likely to remember foods influenced by
celebrities through advertisements.
