SSL Certificate/Thumbprint
• Clients required to pass matching SSL thumbprint of vCenter/ESXi for certain operations
SSL • Backup Exec checks to see if it has already retrieved the SSL certificate from the server
Certificate
• If needed, Backup Exec retrieves SSL certificate and thumbprint, places thumbprint in a
cache
• Thumbprint used when making applicable API calls
HTTPS Port Number Handling
• HTTPS port number must be passed instead of VIX number of a vCenter server or ESXi host
• The HTTPS default port number is 443; VIX default port number is 902
HTTPS • In Backup Exec, the VDDK port number is no longer exposed in the UI
• If a vCenter HTTPS port is non-standard, the server must be added to Backup Exec with a
port suffix
Hyper-V Environments
• Support for Hyper-V Server 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2

Shared Volume
• Hyper-V virtual machines in a CSV configuration are fully supported by Backup Exec
• Includes virtual machines configured for high availability
• When a Cluster Shared Volume is detected, the path C:\Cluster Storage\Volume1 is displayed,
which is where the VHDs reside
Block Optimization
Only used disk blocks captured when protecting virtual machines
• Incremental - captures blocks that have changed since the last backup operation
• Differential - captures blocks that have changed since the last full backup operation
