1. Differentiate IT Versus ICT (10 points)


IT and ICT are words that are often mixed up with each other because of the word 'technology'.
Although there are similarities yet there are also few difference between the two. The difference
between Information Technology and Information and Communications Technology is the field with
which it is associated and their industry and extension. Information and Communications Technology is
associated with the field of education. While Information Technology is popularly associated with the
field related to computers, software, network, and etc. They also vary with their functions, Information
and Communications Technology is to help make the process of communication and attaining and
imparting information better with the help of technology. Additionally, it is used in academic institutions
and purposes. On the other hand, Information Technology is to help attain an efficient way or method
for the management of information, with the help of technology. It is also used in corporate and other
huge, complex companies and institutions.

3. ICT is made up of three words, what are they and give the definition of each word. (30 points)

ICT is made up of three words, namely Information, Communications, and Technology. If I would
breakdown the three words they have different meaning, functions, and purpose.

INFORMATION

Information refers to the knowledge and ideas obtained from reading, investigation, study, and
from research. There are tools that is used in transmitting information such as computers, telephone,
television, and radio. These tools normally process data that are later understood as information. Not to
be confused with data, information is regarded as processed data.

For instance, while typing on your computer to search for something, you usually punch in random
letters on your keyboard to make up words and sentences. The keyboard typing and computer itself is
considered as input data while the words, sentences, articles, and news you see on your computer
monitor are considered as output information.

Information is also used in decision- making and to foresee the future using advancements. For
example, scientist detected bad weather patterns using technology advancements, they warned the
public to stay alert on those affected area. This example is a processed information and is called
Knowledge. Knowledge is an awareness that is gained by experience and facts. For example, after giving
warning to the public they acquired knowledge, because of it people will bring umbrellas if there is light
rain their area and some areas that has heavy rain will stay alert and will decide to evacuate for safety
purposes.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is an act of transmitting messages and information. It is a process in which


information and messages are exchanged between individuals through verbal and non- verbal means.

Forms of communication have evolved through the past eras, from the prehistoric era where
humans communicated through signs and symbols using cave paintings and drawings, rock arts, stone
carvings, and the like which are seen by evidenced. Communicating has become more complex and
messages become more necessary. With the use of technological advancements, communication has
become more faster, more convenient, and more efficient.

TECHNOLOGY
Technology has evolved and continuously advancing that makes people’s live easier and
improved.With the use of technology advancement, it gave lot of advantages to humans in terms of
communication, education, and other relevant work fields. As mentioned about information and
communications, technology has made communication much easier and faster through various tools and
also made information to be transmitted efficiently and effectively.
