BRIEF INTRODUCTION
This lesson contains information on the step-by-step procedure of basic
Manicure and Pedicure services. By following these steps, you can create different
designs from the basic to the more complicated nail designs.
This will also help you to develop and acquire skills about the proper care of
the hands and finger nails as well as proper care of feet and toe nails.
Having knowledge about the structures of nail as well as its diseases and
disorders is also very much important when it comes to giving nail services such as
manicure and pedicure. When giving nail services, always keep in mind to have safety
precautions and sanitation procedures at all times to prevent accidents or injury and
to protect you and your client.

Procedure in Cleaning Nails

Cleaning (Manicure)

1. Remove old polish using cotton


moistened with nail polish remover.

2. Shape nails by filing them starting with the


little finger working towards the thumb from
corner to center to avoid nail splitting.

3. Soften cuticle with a cuticle remover.

4. Loosen cuticle by using the spoon end of


the cuticle pusher while keeping it moist with
cuticle remover.

5. Clean under free edge by using a cotton-


tipped orangewood stick dipped in soapy
water.

6. Trim cuticle with cuticle nipper in a single


segment.

7. Cleanse nails by brushing the fingernails


using a downward movement.

8. Dry hands and nails thoroughly.

Cleaning (Pedicure)
1. Remove old polish from the nails of both
feet.

2. File toenails with a nail file or an emery


board starting from the little finger, from corner
to center to avoid nail splitting and rounding
them slightly at the corners to conform to the
shape of the toes.

3. Soften the cuticle with cuticle remover.

4. Loosen cuticle by using the spoon end of


the cuticle pusher while keeping it moist with
cuticle remover.

5. Apply cuticle remover to the cuticle and


under the free edge of each toenail with a
cotton-tipped orangewood stick.

6. Trim cuticle with cuticle nipper in a single segment.

7. Cleanse nails by brushing the toenails using a down ward movement.

8. Dry the feet and nails thoroughly.
