FIRE FIGHTING
FROM THIS
TO THIS

Takes only a moment of carelessness

The First Rule Of Firefighting Is:

Bad Elec Leaking

Connection Fuel

Clean up and Keep Equipment in Good Improper Chemical

dispose of trash Repair Storage

Don’t Give Fire A

Place To Start
WHAT DO WE NEED
TO GET
A FIRE
STARTED ?
WE NEED :

FIRE CLASSIFICATION

A Wood, paper, cloth

B Flammable Liquid & Gas

C Electrical fires

D Flammable metals
CLASS “A” TYPE FIRES
WOOD, PAPER, CLOTH

Common Areas
Trash Bins, Buildings, Construction Sites
CLASS “B” TYPE FIRES
Flammable liquids and gases

Common Areas
Petrochemical plants, careless storage of
flammable fluids, lack of housekeeping at work
site, careless use of cooking oil
CLASS “C” TYPE FIRES
Electrical Equipment or Appliances

Electric motors &

Electrical Panel switches Electric Appliances

Common Areas: Any area where electricity may be routed. Do

not approach before isolating electrical source
CLASS “D” TYPE FIRES
Flammable metals such as Magnesium,
Potassium

This type of fire is fairly rare and usually

only found in industries such as aircraft or
specialized manufacturing
CLASS “A” TYPE FIRE
How to extinguish

Fire Hydrant

Water extinguishes a Class “A” fire by cooling

the fuel below the ignition temp. Do not leave a
class A fire until you are sure all materials are
fully extinguished, as the material can start up
again as it dries out Fire Hose
CLASS “B” TYPE FIRES
How to Extinguish

Dry Powder
Extinguisher for
small fires

Foam or dry powder are the only safe ways to

extinguish hydrocarbon fires. They smother the fire,
removing oxygen from the fire triangle. In addition,
some dry powders such as Purple K interrupt the
chain reaction of fire Foam Monitor for
large fires
Class “C” Type Fires
How To Extinguish

CO2 Type
Extinguisher

CO2 extinguishers remove oxygen from the fire site and

thus put out the fire. CO2 also acts somewhat as a cooling
agent. Dry powder extinguishers may also be used but
these leave a lot of residue which may damage adjacent
electrical equipment. Never use water or foam type
extinguishers on an electrical fire
CLASS “D” Type Fires
How To Extinguish

Class “D” Fires require the use of specialized powder or foam

extinguishing agents which interrupt the chemical action of the
fire. This type of fire is very unlikely on location here.
COOKING OIL FIRE

A pan of cooking oil left unattended on a stove can quickly burst

into flame causing a serious fire in your home
COOKING OIL FIRE
TRY TO PUT OUT WITH WATER

Putting water on an oil fire causes it to flare up and spread the fire.
This can cause more damage or even injury to you
COOKING OIL FIRE
HOW TO PUT OUT SAFELY

Covering pan with a lid or even a cloth will cut off supply of
Oxygen and put out the fire
Cover pan with the lid and the fire goes
out. Allow pan to cool.

Do not remove lid until pan is cool to touch

COOKING OIL FIRE
FIRE IS OUT

By removing O2 from the fire, it has been extinguished with no danger

to people or property
THROWING WATER ON AN OIL FIRE
ONLY MAKES IT FLARE UP
CO2 DOES NOT EXTINGUISH AN OIL FIRE
VERY EFFECTIVELY. IT MAY RE-IGNITE
AFTER EXTINGUISHING AS O2 RETURNS
DRY POWDER WORKS WELL ON OIL FIRES,
BUT SPREADS A LOT OF RESIDUE. THIS IS
WHY IT IS NOT NORMALLY USED WHERE
ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT MAY BE
CONTAMINATED
How to Use an Extinguisher

Remember the Word:

PULL THE SAFETY PIN

A IM AT BASE OF FIRE

S QUEEZE THE TRIGGER

S WEEP BACK AND FORTH
PULL THE SAFETY PIN
PRESS TRIGGER TO CHECK IF
EXTINGUISHER IS CHARGED

BE SURE YOU HAVE A FULL

EXTINGUISHER BEFORE
APPROACHING FIRE
•AIM AT BASE OF FIRE

•SQUEZE TRIGGER

•SWEEP SIDE TO SIDE

GOING--

GOING--
GONE !!!
THE FIRE IS OUT

STANDBY AT FIRE SCENE TO ENSURE FIRE

DOES NOT RE-IGNITE
REMEMBER
REMEMBER
FIRE PREVENTION

FIRE PREVENTION
IS BETTER THAN
FIREFIGHTING

IS FAR BETTER THAN
