System Requirements
The following system environments are necessary in order to use the fax driver.
Operating Systems:
• Windows XP
• Windows Server 2003
• Windows Server 2008
• Windows Vista
• Windows 7
• Windows 8
• Windows Server 2012
Computer:
Any computer that runs the above systems
Memory:
Any memory with the capacity required to operate the compatible operating systems
NOTE
• Supported operating systems may differ according to the fax driver version you are using.
• Depending on the printer model, you may need to specify a queue as described below.
- LPR
For Windows TCP/IP, enter either <Print>, <Hold>, or <Direct> as the queue.
- RAW
The following four port numbers are available:
9100: Enter either <Print>, <Hold>, or <Direct> as the queue.
9101: The queue will be set to <Direct>.
9102: The queue will be set to <Print>.
9103: The queue will be set to <Hold>.
- SMB
Select any of the three queues displayed after selecting a printer from the network tree.
CD-ROM Menu:
1 [Manuals] Click this button first to view the Fax Driver Installation Guide. You
cannot view the Fax Driver Installation Guide after installation has
started.

NOTE
• If you are using Windows 8/Server 2012, move the installer to the desktop before installing or
uninstalling.
• If the CD-ROM menu is not displayed, perform the following procedure.
- Windows 8/Server 2012:
If "Tap to choose what happens with this disc." is displayed: Tap (or click) this message and tap
(or click) [Run MInst.exe].
If Windows Explorer is displayed: Double-click [MInst.exe].
If nothing is displayed: Click the file explorer on the desktop and double-click the CD icon in
[Computer].
- Windows Vista/Server 2008/7:
If the [AutoPlay] dialog box appears, click [Run MInst.exe].
If Windows Explorer opens, double-click the [MInst.exe] icon.
If nothing happens, on the [ ] (Start) menu, click [Computer] → double-click the CD-ROM
drive icon.
- Windows XP/Server 2003:
Double-click the CD-ROM icon in [My Computer] → double-click [MInst.exe].
• If there is no [MInst.exe] file, double-click [Setup.exe] in the appropriate folder.

Faxing
The procedure for faxing a document created in an application is as follows.
NOTE
Faxing methods may vary according to the application you are using. For details, see the instruction
manuals provided with the application.

Select [Print] from the [File] menu of the application.

Select your fax from [Name] → click [Print] (or [OK]).
NOTE
In Windows 8/Server 2012, if you want to send a fax from the Windows Store app, display the charm
bar to the right of the screen, and tap [ Devices] → the printer you are using → [Print]. If the
message [The printer requires your attention. Go to the desktop to take care of it.] is displayed,
move to the desktop and proceed to step 3.

Specify the send address in the [Fax Sending Settings] dialog box.

☐ Enter the recipient name and fax number in the [Sending Settings] tab → click [Add to
Destination List].
NOTE
If you have selected [Reenter Fax Number before adding Destination to [Destination List]] in the
[Security Settings] dialog box of the [Special] tab, the [Confirm Password] dialog box is displayed
when you click [Add to Destination List]. For details, see the online help (see "Viewing the Online
Help (p. 2-10)").

NOTE

If you want to attach a cover sheet, click [Cover Sheet] → specify a format for the cover
sheet.
NOTE
For details about cover sheet attachment, see "Attaching a Cover Sheet (p. 3-5)."

Click [OK].
Faxing begins.
NOTE
• Some printer models enable you to confirm the status of the printer and stop printing from a
print cancelation display (see Reference Guide).
• If a printer icon is displayed in the task tray at the bottom right of your computer monitor, you
can stop sending a fax from your computer. Double-click the printer icon → click the name of
the file you want to stop sending → click [Document] → [Cancel].
• You cannot access or edit the address book if you do not have access permission to the
destination folder of the address book. If this is the case, log on as user having access permission
to the folder, or click [Specify a Folder] in the [Edit Address Book] tab, and specify a folder, such
as the [My Documents] folder, that you have write permission for as the destination folder of the
address book. For details, see "Changing the Address Book Export Destination (p. 3-28)."
• The number of destinations that you can send to at one time depends on the conditions under
which the cover sheet has been attached. For details, view the online help (see "Viewing the
Online Help (p. 2-10)").
• The display may vary according to the operating system and system environment.

Specifying the Default Fax Settings
This section describes how to access the fax driver screen from the [Control Panel] and how to specify
the default fax settings.
You can edit address books, register cover sheet templates, set page formats, etc.
IMPORTANT
To change the default fax settings, you must log on to your computer as a member of the
Administrators group.
1.
Click [ ] (Start) → [Control Panel] → [Printer].
2.
Right-click the icon of the fax whose settings you want to configure → click [Printing
Preferences].

• When faxing, you can change the default settings in the fax driver screen whenever required.

Click [Help].
Navigation pane (left side): Click [Contents] / [Search] to search for information.
This section explains useful functions for sending faxes, such as scheduling the fax send time,
attaching a cover sheet, etc.

Setting the Fax Send Time
You can store the data temporarily in the machine, and send the fax at a specified time.
1.
Click [Sending Settings].
See "Faxing (p. 2-2)" or "Specifying the Default Fax Settings (p. 2-7)" on how to display the fax driver
screen.
You can select the destination from the address book. For details about selecting a destination from
the address book, see "Faxing (p. 2-2)."
NOTE
If you have selected [Reenter Fax Number before adding Destination to [Destination List]] in the
[Security Settings] dialog box of the [Special] tab, the [Confirm Destination] dialog box is displayed
when you click [Add to Destination List]. For details, see the online help (see "Viewing the Online
Help (p. 2-10)").
The data is stored temporarily in the machine, and the fax is sent at the specified time.

Click [Cover Sheet].

Select a template from [Style].
You can register a preferred cover sheet beforehand. For details, view the online help (see "Viewing
the Online Help (p. 2-10)").
If you do not want to specify items to include on the cover sheet, proceed to step 10.

Select the items you want to print on the cover sheet regarding the sender → enter the
information.
NOTE
You can save the information entered in the [Sender] tab in a file by clicking [Save Sender]. Then,
when you send a fax, you can import the information by using [Import Sender], instead of entering
the sender information each time you send a fax.
NOTE
The information of the destinations specified in the [Sending Settings] tab prints on the cover sheet.
7.
Specify a logo or signature if necessary.
☐ Click [Logo] or [Signature].
☐ Select [Print with Logo] or [Print with Signature] to include a logo or signature on the cover
sheet.
☐ Click [Browse] → specify the magnification and position of the selected logo or signature.
NOTE
The number of sheets is not counted automatically. The number which you entered manually is
shown on the cover sheet.
9.
Click [OK].
You can also enter a customized note instead of one of the pre-defined notes. You can enter up to 30
characters.
Enter any other information in [Comment to Include] as necessary.
11.
If you want to check the preview image on the cover sheet, click [Preview].
NOTE
• The number of recipients to which you can send simultaneously depends on how a cover sheet
is attached. For details, see the online help (see "Viewing the Online Help (p. 2-10)").

Display the fax driver screen from the [Control Panel].
See "Specifying the Default Fax Settings (p. 2-7)" on how to display the fax driver screen.

Specify the desired settings in the [Sending Settings], [Cover Sheet], and [Special] tabs →
click [Add].
NOTE
• For information on selecting a profile when sending a fax, see "Selecting a Profile for Faxing."
• To edit or delete a profile, click [Edit] at the right of [Profile] in the [Sending Settings], [Cover
Sheet], or [Special] tab.

Select [Print] from the [File] menu of the application.

Select your fax from [Name] → click [Properties].
NOTE
In Windows 8/Server 2012, if you want to send a fax from the Windows Store app, display the
charm bar to the right of the screen, and tap [ Devices] → the printer you are using → [Print].
When you print in this way, you can only set some of the print functions. If the message [The printer
requires your attention. Go to the desktop to take care of it.] is displayed, move to the desktop and
proceed to step 3.
You can select a profile in the [Sending Settings], [Cover Sheet], or [Special] tab.

Click [OK].

• For information on registering a profile, see "Registering a Profile for Faxing (p. 3-12)."

Click [Edit Address Book] → [Add Person].

Enter the fax number.
You can also enter information concerning the fax number in [Description].
NOTE
• You can register two fax numbers: a primary number and a secondary number.
• You can also use the subaddress function (a function that enables you to send documents with
a password attached to a memory box at the other end) in some devices. If you want to use this
function, click [Settings].
5.
Click [OK].
NOTE
• You can register up to 3,000 address entries for individual people.
• If you specify two fax numbers for a single individual destination, two fax numbers with the
same name will be displayed in the address book.
• You cannot access or edit the address book if you do not have access permission to the
destination folder of the address book. If this is the case, log on as a user having access
permission to the folder, or click [Specify a Folder] in the [Edit Address Book] tab, and change
the destination folder of the address book to a folder that you have write permission for (see
"Changing the Address Book Export Destination (p. 3-28)").
• You can also edit previously registered single person addresses. For more information, click
[Help] in the bottom right-hand corner of the fax driver window to view the online help.

Click [Edit Address Book] → [Add Group].
See "Faxing (p. 2-2)" or "Specifying the Default Fax Settings" on how to display the fax driver screen.
To remove a member of the selected group, select the person or group entry you want to remove
from the [Current Group Members] list → click [Delete].
NOTE
You can select multiple entries by holding down [SHIFT] or [CTRL] on the keyboard and clicking
each entry that you want to select.
5.
Click [OK].
NOTE
• You can register up to 3,000 group entries.
• To delete a registered item from the address book, select the item from the address book list
and click [Delete].
• You cannot access or edit the address book if you do not have access permission to the
destination folder of the address book. If this is the case, log on as a user having access
permission to the folder, or click [Specify a Folder] in the [Edit Address Book] tab, and change
the destination folder of the address book to a folder that you have write permission for (see
"Changing the Address Book Export Destination (p. 3-28)").
• You can also edit previously registered group destination information. For more information,
click [Help] in the bottom right-hand corner of the fax driver window to view the online help.

NOTE
You can load data from CSV (*.csv) files or Canon Address Book files (*.abk) into the address book.

Click [Edit Address Book] → [Import].

Select the type of the file to import from [Files of type]: CSV Files (*.csv), Canon Address Book (*.abk),
All Files (*.*)
If you have selected a CSV file, specify the separators used in the file.
The address book is imported, and added to the list.

Click [Edit Address Book] → [Export].
See "Faxing (p. 2-2)" or "Specifying the Default Fax Settings (p. 2-7)" on how to display the fax driver
screen.
NOTE
If you have selected [Protect with Password when Exporting Address List] in the [Security Settings]
dialog box of the [Special] tab, a dialog box for entering a password is displayed when you click
[Export]. For details, see the online help (see "Viewing the Online Help (p. 2-10)").
Select the type of the file to export from [Save as type]: CSV Files (*.csv) or Canon Address Book (*.abk)
If you have selected a CSV file, specify the separators used in the file.
The specified address book is saved as a file.
NOTE
• You cannot access or edit the address book if you do not have access permission to the
destination folder of the address book. If this is the case, log on as a user having access

Save the address book file in a folder, such as the [My Documents] folder, where you have write
permission.

If you want to create an address book, click [New], or if you want to copy the existing
address book to the specified folder, click [Copy].
If an address book already exists in the folder selected in step 3, the following message box will be
displayed. If you want to use the existing address book, click [Use as-is], and if you want to use the
address book of the fax driver, click [Overwrite].
