    Mariano: Yes, I am. I’m Mo.
    Phan: Is Mo your nickname?
    Mariano: Yes, it is. My first name is Mariano. My
    last name is Montoya.
    Phan: Nice to meet you, Mo Montoya. Are you in
    my English class?
    Mariano: I don’t know. What’s the name of your
    English teacher?
    Phan: His name is Mr. Brenner. He’s in Room
    220.
    Mariano: Mr. Brenner? No, I’m not in your
    English class. I’m in Room 210. My
    teacher’s name is Ms. Sikes.
    Phan: Ms. Sikes? My friend Paul is in her class.
    He’s a soccer player.
    Mariano: I’m a soccer player, too. (Bell rings)
    Phan: Bye! Nice to meet you, Mo.
    Mariano: Nice to meet you, too.

    Barbara: Hi, I’m Barbara. What’s your name?
    Gustafo: I’m Gustafo. Do you live here in Texas?
    Barbara: No, I live in Philadelphia. I’m here on
    vacation. Where are you from?
    Gustafo: My family is from Brazil. But we live in
    the United States now.
    Barbara: Really? My mother is from Brazil. My
    father is French.
    Gustafo: That’s interesting. My father is half
    French and half British. We live in
    Austin.
    Barbara: Where’s Austin? It’s here in Texas,
    right?
    Gustafo: Yes, it is. Austin is the capital of Texas.
    Barbara: So what’s it like in Austin?
    Gustafo: It’s very clean and boring. Not like
    Philadelphia.
    Barbara: Philadelphia is crowded and noisy. But
    it’s also beautiful. And
    interesting.

    Chico: Hi, my name is Chico. I need a new
    camera.
    Salesperson: What kind of camera?
    Chico: Digital. A digital camera. An expensive
    one, with all of the gadgets.
    Salesperson: Here’s a digital camera for $4000.
    Chico: Wow, that’s really cool! But $4000? That’s
    too expensive.
    Salesperson: How about this digital camera? It
    costs $89.
    Chico: Eighty-nine dollars! That’s too cheap!
    Salesperson: Excuse me. What is this camera for?
    Chico: It’s for pictures of my sister. She plays
    golf.
    Salesperson: That’s an unusual reason to buy a
    camera. How about this XR-52? It’s
    an excellent camera for $249.
    Chico: That’s great. Thank you so much.
    Salesperson: My pleasure.
    Track 4:

    Mindy: Hey Yusef! How are you doing?
    Yusef: All right. How about you?
    Mindy: I’m fine. What are you doing here?
    Yusef: I’m taking a break. Mark and I are studying
    in the library.
    Mindy: Mark?
    Yusef: Mark is still in the library. He has two
    exams tomorrow – math and
    engineering!
    Mindy: Wow! What’s your exam?
    Yusef: Business. But it my last one. What about
    you?
    Mindy: My last exam was yesterday. Now I’m
    planning my college classes. I want
    to study art.
    Yusef: Great! Are you eating?
    Mindy: Yes, I’m waiting for my pizza.
    Yusef: That sounds good. What kind of pizza?
    Mindy: Mushroom.
    Yusef: Good idea. Waiter! Can I order a
    mushroom pizza too?

    Sasha: Hi Billy. Do you want to go to the cafe for
    a sandwich?
    Billy: That sounds great, Sasha – but I’m cooking

    Billy: I’m making French food.
    Sasha: Are your parents French?
    Billy: No, they’re Italian. But they love French
    food. So I’m making a dinner
    for them.
    Sasha: Do you know how to make French food,
    Billy?
    Billy: Not really – but I have this great French
    cookbook. It tells how to do
    everything.
    Sasha: So, what are you making?
    Billy: I’m making fish soup with tomatoes and
    garlic.
