family and you are three in the family, do you
share it with them? Yes, teacher.

Yes, very good. It is always good to share

food to your families as well as with friends
and people who are in need. (Infuse the value
of sharing)

How about the others? Do you share your

foods with your family?

Through our lesson for today, we will learn

how to give equal shares with other people by Yes, we are!
learning about fractions. Okay? Are you
ready?
B. PRESENATATION
1. Discussion
Okay class, yesterday I told you to bring cut
out of circles right?
Yes, teacher.
Did you bring it with you?
Yes, teacher. (and the students brings out their
cut outs of circles and show it to their teacher)

That is a whole circle.

Now, bring out your scissor and cut it in a
half. Like this, (and the teacher will show how
to cut the circle in a half)
(the students will cut their circles just like how
their teacher did)

This is the two parts of a circle.

This is a half of a circle.

And this is the other half.

Two parts will make a whole circle.

Now, this is what we call fraction. Fraction is

simply part of a whole.
(The students will color one part of the circle
Now, color one part of a circle with color with color green.)
green.
The shaded or colored part of the circle is
what we call the numerator and the number of
equal parts is called the denominator.

Okay?
Now, how many shaded part are there?
What do you call the shaded part? One
Numerator.
How many equal parts do we have?
What do you call the equal parts? Two.
Denominator.
Okay, very good.
Now, this is how we write a fraction.

The numerator is in the upper part and

denominator is in the lower part, separated by
a line called a fraction bar. Okay, clear?
Yes, teacher.
How do you read this? Anyone?
(The teacher will call someone from the class)

One-half, teacher.

Very good.

Let’s have another example.

I have here another cut out of circle.

How many equal parts do we have in this Three.

circle?

Yes, three. How many shaded part do we One.

have?
Yes. Very good.
(the teacher will now explain the identification
of fractions from whole numbers by showing
the illustration below.)

Let’s have another examples

Circle.

What shape is this? Three.

How many parts do we have here? One.

How many shaded part do we have? Numerator.

What do we call again the shaded part? Denominator

The equal parts?

1/3
Very good.
So, what fraction does this circle represent?

Very good. Yes, teacher.

I have a story here. I will read and you have to

listen carefully, okay?

Mother bought a pizza for her family. She

divides it between her family and they are
eight in the family. Mother, Father, Lolo, Lola
and her 2 sons and two daughters. What part
each member of the family receives?

Cake!

8 parts.

What did mother buy for her family? 1/8 (one-eight)

How many parts id she divides the cake?

So what part each member receives?

Very good.
2. Fixing skills
Let’s have a game. Divide the class into 4.
(groupings will be by row)
I have here a pictures to show and you should
tell me what fraction they represent.
The first group who answers first with the
correct answer will have a reward.
Yes, we are!
Okay, game? Are you ready?

2/6!

3/10

½
¼

1/8

Yehey!

Okay very good.

(give the reward to the winner)
3. Generalization
Now class, I have a question.
Suppose you have a pizza, or a cake and you
want to share it with your three friends, what
will you do? Divides it in four equal parts

And how much did each of your friends will

receive? ¼ (one-fourth)

Very good. And take note that it is always

good to share.
