I.INTRODUCTION

Nowadays online is a fast growing phenomenon. Growing numbers of

consumers shop online to purchase goods and services, gather product information
or even browse for enjoyment. Online shopping environments are therefore playing
an increasing role in the overall relationship between marketers and their
consumers.

In this new normal situation here in the Philippines, it revealed that 64% of
Filipino people internet users are spending more time on social media, with 23%
indicating an increased activity in their online shopping activity according to
Digital 2020 April Statshot report by Hootsuite. Consumers are relying on online
purchasing. With consumers resorting more to online shopping amid pandemic
restrictions, entreprenuers have embraced the digital phenomenon for online
shopping even more. The pandemic has turned out an opportunity for a recent
noticeable increase in online shopping.

Kiko e-Palengke was created to offer convenience to our community, with

certain goods such as rice, eggs, cooking oil, charcoal and many other in a very

DESCRIPTION OF THE BUSINESS

Kiko e-Palengke is an online retailing store selling basic commodities. A

small business capital started at Thirty five thousand Pesos (Php35,000.00) selling
rice and Dried fish(Tamban) online.

Kiko e-Palengke is owned and managed by two busy mommies; Kristine M.

Alivio and Gretchen J. Tallion. The business can be found at Villa Libertad, El
Nido Palawan.

The idea of putting up Kiko e-Palengke was made because of this

unexpected crisis. Originally, we are selling Ukay-ukay but due to the impact of
pandemic that shocked the entire world, everyone was affected. Following
protocols such as lockdowns, quarantines, social distancing and sanitary measures
were affecting all of us even potentials shoppers may not be able to physically
purchase what they need. And later on we were forced to shut down as such items
are considered to be non-essential goods.

Kiko e-Palengke is very much open for innovation because we rely on the
needs of people and will continue to find ways on how to satisfy our customers by
upgrading our products and services. This business has a barangay permit and has

Marketing strategy

 Definition of the market

Shopping can be very time-consuming. It will take your time, your energy
and could waste more of your money. We gathered all the ideas of a convenient
way of shopping and we came up to this. Our simple strategy is to know the
people in the community and knowing what they mostly need daily. The purpose
of our online marketing is to reach those busy households who could not do the
shopping for their essentials. Through this, we offer our customers the very
convenient way of delivering our products straight to their homes for free.

 Positioning strategy

The Kiko e-Palengke is located at Villa Libertad, El Nido where most

financially stable community chose to live such as business owners and land
owners. Based on our researches through multimedia marketing, most of the
buyers come from Villa Libertad area.

 Pricing Strategy

Considering the expenses and the earning status of people due to the crisis,
we marked up per product in a reasonable and affordable price. We put 5-10% for
the fast moving product and 15-20% for non-fast moving product.
8

 Distribution strategy

As we made sure all our products that posted online are availabe, our clients
are given the following options to purchase;

Online via Facebook/Messenger

As products were posted in Facebook Page, clients can place their orders by
sending us a message thru Facebook Messenger. We do free delivery to nearby
places without minimum amount of purchased in our delivery scheduled time.

Mobile Phone (for known-customers)

We are giving out our cellphone number only to regular clients. This is to
protect our business from a bogus buyers. They can place their orders by sending
us text/SMS or by calling us. Clients have two options, they can order in advance
to pick up the products when it’s ready or we deliver it to them.

delivery schedule at 9am in the morning and 3pm in the afternoon where everyone
could buy directly from us with free delivery service. For pick-up orders, we made
sure that it’s easy for them to locate us.

9
ANALYSIS OF COMPETITION

Most of the competitors can be found in the center of the municipality and
selling their products a bit cheaper than us, I considered them as a large scale
competitors. What makes us different and gives us more advantages is the online
marketing/selling. We do our best to meet up the needs of consumers, fast and free
delivery is what we think the reason people chose our service than the rest of the
competitors.

With our friendly and honest approach, our clients supported us by

spreading the good news on how we do our services to them and referred us to all
their contacts. One of the most rewarding part of doing the business.

VII. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter will help us in familiarizing information that are relevant and
similar to the present study. It includes ideas, generalization and an overview; in
order to develop a thorough understanding and deeper insights into the previous
works that are relevant to the subject.

The emergence of new information and communication technologies,

particularly the internet and social media networks, has changes market dynamics,
threatening the competitive positions of firms and increasing the power of
consumers. The application of the internet in the business world has become a
major trend in practice and generated a hot stream of research in the recent
literature.

The internet and online-based social media have changed consumer

consumption habits by providing consumers with new ways of looking for,
assessing, choosing and buying goods and services. As such, the internet has been
becoming the powerful channel for business marketing and communication and for
new business opportunities- as it is often called e-business or e-commerce today.
This new e-business or e-commerce virtual marketplace allow small companies
competing with business giants by just having a better web presentation of their
products or services. Under the same wave, online customers can enjoy a wider
choice of products or services, more competitive price; and being able to buy their
favorite items/services from the sellers located thousand miles away.
23

Nowadays the lifestyle of the people is different. People feel uncomfortable

and time consuming for going crowded markets. So E-Shopping is a boon as it
saves a lot of time. Online shopping is a process whereby consumers directly buy
goods, services etc. from a seller without an intermediary service over the internet.
Shoppers can visit web stores from the comfort of their house and shop as by
sitting in front of the computer or mobile phones online stores are usually available
24 hours a day and many consumers have internet access both at work and at
home. So it is very convenient for them to shop online. One of the most enticing
factors about online shopping, particularly during holiday season is, it alleviates
the need to wait in long lines or search from a store for a particular item. Variety of
goods are available in online. So the researchers want to know the preference of
the consumers.

DEFINITION OF CONSUMER PREFERENCE

Refers to “how the customers select goods and services in relation to factors like
taste, preference and individual choices.
24

VIII. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND SOLUTION MADE

The most common problem we encountered in online selling are the

Returns, refund and fulfillment. Shoppers wants a positive experience and
adequate return and refund policies. And even if people like the policy, they’ll
return products that are wrong, broken or sometimes just not what they wanted or
expected. This will directly affects to our current and future revenue capabilities.

These are the solutions that helped us solved the problems: First, we have a
policy that is clear and fair. We don’t make people keep broken or damaged
products, we apologizes when we make mistake, we work out to make things right.
We definitely replace a products or provide a refund. Fulfillment comes when you
understand your customer’s need, being honest and empathetic with them, listen to
their feedbacks and set realistic expectations.
25

IX. RECOMMENDATION

According to research and actual operation of the project, online retail

shopping is becoming the New Normal nowadays. Due to the crisis that we are
facing today, as we all know how covid 19 has been spreading in our community,
customers are hesitant to step out of their homes and go to markets where there
isn’t enough social distancing being followed. It is better not to go in a crowded
places to avoid catching the virus. For the meantime while we are still in this
situation, we recommend that it would be safer if we do shopping online and
enjoy the convenience of shopping at home.
