Pakistan needs to make space for

youth to be part of the development

process.  With 70 percent of the population younger than 29,
Pakistan’s vibrant youth are eager to engage with a dynamic, open
mind to resolve problems and harness its creativity to contribute to the
shaping of a more equitable and prosperous society, while also
addressing climate change threats.

It is a well-known fact that the youth of any country is a great asset. Youth are the future of
tomorrow  and are representing it at every level. The role of youths in nation-building is more
important than you might think. In other words, the intelligence and work of the youth will take the
country on the pathway of success. They are the building blocks of a country.

Youth  is  the  backbone  of  a  country.  Youth  can  play  an  important
role  in  building  a   strong  and  united  India.   Now  that  the  voting  age
has  been  lowered to  18,  youth  can  play  a  critical  role  in  the  coming
years  to transform  the  hopes  and  aspirations  of  the  nation  into  a
reality. They  should  act  judiciously.  They  should  not  become  pawns  in
the  hands  of  politicians.  Thus  in   India  of  tomorrow,  youth  is assured
of  a  decisive  role  in  the  task  of  nation-building  even though  indirectly.

With  the  lowering  Of  the  voting  age  to  18,  the  young  have  suddenly
become political important.  The new voters can decisively tilt the political
scales at a general election. Realising this, all the political parties are trying
to involve more youth in their political agenda. It depends on the youth not
to become pawn in the hands of politicians, but to be judicious. The youth
should cast their vote after weighing all the pros and cons. Undoubtedly, in
the India of tomorrow the young are going to play a decisive role in
choosing their leaders. It is a big responsibility and it will involve the in the
task of national reconstruction. Hence, the youth is going to play a crucial
role in the coming years to translate the hopes and aspirations of the
nations into reality.
Youth are the most important and dynamic segment of the population
in any country. It is believed that developing countries with large youth
population could see tremendous growth, provided they invest in
young people’s education, health and protect and guarantee their
rights. We can undoubtedly say that today’s young are tomorrow’s
innovators, creators, builders and leaders.

igh positions such as Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Governor.

If the ruling power is given in the hands of the youth, then definitely
India will become developed nation soon.

They have power to change. Education programs should aim to teach

and young minds right from the school level the importance of
choosing right people who would take charge of governance.
Conventionally, youth have been asked to keep away from politics.
Youth should be motivated to consider politics as a means to serve the
nation. They should be oriented on anti-corruption drives with focus
on prevention, education, and strategies for fighting corruption. Good
governance is realistic with youth empowerment.
Youths seems to have the ability to face any issues and challenges.
They have a positive influence on their fellow young people. They are
able to teach them the positive things in life. The ones who are
destroying their future, they tend to listen to their fellow youths. They
will make them understand the importance of being a good human
being.

The role of the youth in the nation building is crucial. They are
problem solvers, have a positive influence on other young people and
the nation, and are extremely ambitious. They have the ability to create
an identity for themselves and move the nation forward. However, they
will not be able to do this without the support of family, community,
Government and fellow youths. Then the youth can make their
beautiful land flourish and shine in success.

ESSAY
Youth are the building blocks of a nation. It is a fact that the more stronger the youth, the
more developed the nation is. The role of the youth in the nation-building occupies the
central place. The countries which utilize their youth in as right direction are more
developed. The energy and brightness of minds of youth act as torch-bearer for a nation.
On the contrary, the countries which fail to realize the importance of the youth lag behind in
every department of life. This is one of the reasons of the backwardness of Pakistan. Hence
the youth lacks proper patronage. Developed countries are totally aware of the worth of
their. They consider their youth as an asset. Most important, these countries cater to the
needs of their youth and provide them education, employment, recreational activities etc.
such healthy and competitive environment prepare the youth to lead the country through
thick and thin. If youth is not in the right direction and is unconcerned about the future of
the nation, it will become a burden for the nation. Consequently, it will not play any
productive role.

The youth hopes for a world free of poverty, unemployment, inequality and exploitation of
man by man. They want a world free of discrimination on the grounds of race, colour,
language and gender.

The countries where the youth are agile and pay their proper contributions towards their
nation are more developed. The entire success of a nation depends on the youth. It is the
duty of the government to provide the youth with ample opportunities to play their role in
an effective manner. Parents also have a major responsibility to fulfil. They must induce
patriotic feelings in their young ones. The youth fraught with patriotism would lead the
nation to the front. The youth have following role and responsibilities towards their nation.
• They must get proper and complete education.
• Take part in welfare activities.
• Spread awareness and education among the masses about their rights and
responsibilities.
• Help other youths in building confidence and pursuing the field of interest.
• Guide newcomers in every field on right lines.
• Promotes the fair image of the country before the world.
• Serve the country with their skills and talent in various fields.
• To nip in the bud all the evils that are polluting our society.
• To reinvigorate the culture, trend and traditions of the society.
• Help the government in the implementation of policies.
• They can play a vital role in the elimination of terrorism.
• The young people are full of vibrant ideas. Their ideas can show the country a new path
towards prosperity.
• Young people have energy to try out things and the patience to learn from mistakes.
Giving them opportunities to plan, to decide and to work prepares them to face harsher
realities in life.
• Young participation is important because youth are the country’s power. Youth recognize
problems and can solve them. Youth are strong force in social movements.

Pakistan has a large youth population. An estimated 103 million or 63% of the population
fall under the age of 25 years. Due to endemic poverty, the majority of youth in Pakistan do
not have the opportunity to experience a childhood. Male youth literacy rate is estimated to
be 53% and female youth literacy rate is even lower at 42%. As far employment is
concerned 15% of the youth is unemployed.

Despite constituting a major chunk of our population, our youth are lagging behind in every
field. Thy have a major role to play in country’s progress but due to government’s
negligence they are facing many new challenges in today’s society. They have been afflicted
by an identity crisis, lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem, a sense of hopelessness
and confusion and ambiguity concerning about moral issues and future. They have been
trapped in a culture marked by guns, violence and drugs. All this has resulted in an unstable
economy, a shattered confidence of foreign investors, lawlessness and a break-up of the
social fabric. Let’s see what major problems are faced by our youth.

The most impounding problem our youth is facing at present is frustration. This monster is
eating up our youth slowly and gradually. The youth in Pakistan don’t have jobs, means of
healthy entertainment, health resources and awareness. The frustration as a result of
multitude problems is increasing day by day.

Education is the most powerful weapon of the youth. With this weapon they could lead their
country towards progress. But unfortunately, quality and skill based education has been a
dream for our youth especially for the poor. There is no formal guidance for students in
logical selection of a specific course of study. There is no unified and single education
system in the country. Our universities and colleges have become degree distributing
machines. Education does not mean only degrees but in its true sense it is the future of the
youth.

Another major problem being faced by our youth is unemployment. After completing their
education, they find no job to utilize their skills to serve their country. This is the result of
negligence of government towards utilization of the youth in a proper manner. Deteriorating
conditions are also responsible for low investment in the country resulting in less job
opportunities. Unemployment is a multi-dimensional and complex issue which starts a
vicious circle of associated problems like involvement of youth in politics, bank and
household burglaries, social insecurity, lawlessness, use of drugs etc.

Poverty is another major problem of our youth. Due to lack of resources they are unable to
get quality education and pursue their field of interest. Poverty is a sort of disease which is
weakening our youth. They are unable to fully use their talent and serve their country.

Owing to poverty and unemployment, parents instead of sending their children to schools,
prefer child labour for them. They make them do so to support their family and use them as
earning hands from the early age. Child labour is a sort of deluge that is draining away our
precious talent to be utilized in right place. Child labour pushes them into a bad company
and immoral activities such as use of drugs, crime etc.

Our youth in the grim situation finding no other consolation resort to the use of drugs.
Growing use of narcotics is becoming a major problem of our youth. They find it the
cheapest source to fight their miseries. But they never realize that this habit of theirs waste
their priceless capabilities and drags them to the brink of death.

Saddest of all our youth in sheer disappointment are committing suicide. They waste their
life without knowing their worth. Use of drugs, poverty, unemployment and failure in life are
the major reasons behind this curse.

Furthermore, pressure from parents due to rigid system is also a bolt from blue to our
youth. Social taboos hinder our youth to freely decide about their future. Hence, they
cannot follow their dreams. This leads them to escape from their responsibilities towards
their parents and their country.

Last but not least, the role of media in upbringing our youth has been minimal throughout
the history of Pakistan. Most of the youth find our TV programmes non-entertaining and
unattractive. Everybody is interested in watching other South Asian and Western channels.
As a consequence of cultural invasion, our youth’s role in promoting our country has been
dismal.

Despite the multiplicity of problems, it is still a right time for government to take some
pragmatic steps. Of the 15 largest countries in the world in terms of population, Pakistan
has by far the youngest population. Government should not regard the young population as
a burden but an asset. We need to bear in mind that “the destiny of nations is in the hands
of youth”. Keeping in view this fact, here are some suggestions to make good use of our
youth.

• Competitive teachers must be recruited who could encourage and guide our youth to right
lines.
• Politics must be prevented in the educational institutions.
• Campaign be started by the media that it is only education which can make our country
more prosperous. We must have 100% literacy.
• It has become a common psyche among the well-educated people that after the
completion of the education they would leave their country in the lurch. Government must
prevent brain-drain in our country by providing full employment and act as a magnet for
bright minds.
• Parents should teach youngsters patience to face the difficulties and be steadfast.
• Youth be given ample opportunities to prove and cash their skill in every field.
• Right men be placed on right places.
• Youth should be clear about their future.
• Youth should be at arm’s length from the bad company.

To conclude, the youth of today can do a marvellous job for the nation. With all the modern
means of this computer age, where everything seems to be possible, why can’t the youth
override the things done by the people in the past? We always consider the heroes of the
past to be the evergreen characters. But today the youth with the proper use of the modern
facilities should be evergreen characters for the times to come.

1. Tolerance and rationally secular reaction to the conservative and conventionally ridiculous

2.Respect common for all regardless of so called differences.

4.Sense of equality.

Pakistan has a large population that can be categorized as falling within the definition of

pattern in Pakistan, is even lower at 42.0%.*.

Pakistan’s ambition is to become a high-income economy by 2047 when it
will be 100 years old because it will only depend on the quality and
performance of its government institutions. 29 Governance influences
investment, citizen trust, and human resource development, and improves
the quality of institutions and policies, by innovating government business
processes and improving service delivery to citizens.
There is likely to be a more decentralized system of government as provinces
and the federal government will continue to implement constitutional
provisions on decentralization. Population growth, the complexity of service
delivery challenges, and the modernization of feedback systems for citizens
will require states to sharpen their focus on regulation and reduce their role
in direct service delivery.30

For this purpose, stability in the governance and democratic system is very
important because it helps the country to prosper. A little disruption in
governance brings instability to the system, which ultimately creates hurdles
in the way of means and thus delays the achievement of the end.

Youth should also get engaged in entrepreneurial skills. For instance, the government
can ask young people to plant tree, engage in solid waste management, recycling
business and establishing new avenues of life through local governments. This kind of
tasks should be based on voluntarily activities and with the communities as well outside
of the communities.

For young people today, economic independence, the freedom to make life
choices and contribute their bit to society is quite important. India is in the
throes of the digital revolution currently — machine learning, robotics,
artificial intelligence, all have given wings to youth to dream big.
These dreams and ambitions shape the future of any nation and higher
education plays a major role in career opportunities and youth’s abilities.

Youth are strong forces in social movements and their participation is crucial for
social change. Youth participation becomes more significant in the context of
changing India where the country has dynamic & diverse social challenges and youth
represents the largest population. Youth participation is a process of involving young
people in responsible, challenging actions to create positive social change. It
essentially means their involvement in planning and making decisions that affect them
and the community.

Role of youth in politics

Youth is a dynamic part of a society that promises innovative and fresh ideas when equipped with
adequate resources. Many a times in the past, the youth has helped advocate and spread an idea while
pushing boundaries of a social construct to rattle the social limitations that restrain people of a
particular society from achieving liberation. A common debate being that as one gets older they are
more prone to stick to dogmatic principles that suited a cause at a particular time while a youthful
mind, especially if the later comes from a more disadvantaged social end, tends to question those
principles and emphasises on evolving to a better future. They pursue means that question the core
idea of those principles and when they are not provided with a suitable and reasonable answer they
are quick to reject it altogether.

Youth is a powerful and energetic body that has the potential to bring about a great magnitude of
change and are a major part of a society. But seldom do their efforts seem to be recognized. Social
media has provided younger minds with a platform to represent themselves and their unfiltered
opinions. They feel empowered as their voices are heard far and wide and new debates open up
regarding issues that are close to their heart.

Youth has brought the trend of being woke promoting ideas such as representation matters and
youngsters are more open to it. What the society understands as weaknesses and setbacks of the

The best solution for this is to educate the youth with the knowledge that wisdom and an analytical
approach comes with maturity, the combination of which creates a platform for better political
understanding to ensure maximum youth activism generating innovative ideas for a better future.

Youth as national dividend

By Ali Rehmat Shimshali
May 27, 2021

The youth are considered the future of any society and a country. Over 64
percent of the population of Pakistan is below the age of 30 years, one of the
largest young populations in the world. This can be turned into the greatest
dividend for Pakistan if we are able to capitalize on it.

Unfortunately, lack of job opportunities, lack of social engagement, unequal

education and health facilities, coupled with social injustices, outdated
traditions, and an exclusionary attitude of community and society towards the
youth are all turning this dividend into a ticking bomb. Young people’s dreams
and aspirations to attain education and find respectable livelihoods turn into a
nightmare. Therefore, the youth become frustrated when they do not find any
hope for their future.

We are living in a most intense period of social unrest, rapid economic, social,
climatic and catastrophic changes, and individualism and identity crisis. Severe
disparities and poor political and socioeconomic conditions may motivate
frustrated and deprived young individuals to participate in violent and
extremist activities.

If the right strategies and policies are not put in place today to meaningfully
engage the youth in the community, deliver quality education and secure
future livelihoods, the biggest workforce we have will be at risk of becoming
marginalized, intolerant, vulnerable to social ills and unable to contribute
towards the broader development of society.

Although the government has launched Kamyab Jawan Program for the youth,
it is not possible to absorb the two million young workforce entering the
market each year. Pakistan can turn its youth bulge into a demographic
dividend by enabling the economy to absorb the unemployed youth through
jobs and entrepreneurial skills. The future of any country lies in the hands of
its young – which is why there is a need to capitalize on our youth for
economic, social and political progress. The government should guarantee
quality education, provide vocational skill trainings, decent work opportunities
and address health and other challenges of the youth.
A demographic dividend has a positive impact on economic progress, political
stability, and social and sustainable development. The government should
focus on enhancing its political will to ensure transparency, and improve
overall education, employment opportunities and youth development policies
lack of which hinder youth engagement in nation-building. The government
should also focus on the promotion of startup businesses, tax rebates for
young entrepreneurs and employees, promotion of domestic and international
tourism, and work on resource generation through sports and festivals.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) estimates that Pakistan’s

population is currently growing at an unsustainable rate (2.4 percent annual
average). It is expected that over the next four decades around 2.1 million
young people will enter the labor force in Pakistan, reaching a projected 181
million by 2050. The government must work on the capacity building of health
institutions, education institutions and also create job opportunities to support
the fast-growing population. This will not be possible without investments in
effective policy interventions, establishing good governance, quality
education, health, job creation and infrastructure development. It is important
to address this rising challenge to promote youth engagement through
quality education, employment, social engagement and political
empowerment.

The government should ensure equal access to education for both men and
women, with an environment where exploration of new ideas and critical
thinking is encouraged. It is more important to provide sufficient employment
opportunities for the youth to reduce their frustration and vulnerabilities that
ultimately lead to a reduction in their chance to participate in radicalization
and violent extremism. If the sense of disparities and deprivations remains in
society, it can lead to social unrest and ultimately affect national security at
large. By addressing violence, corruption and repression, we can enhance the
country’s stability and reduce prospects for violence and extremism.

It is very important to maintain the dynamics between education and

employment. The government should establish more technical training centers
in different parts of the country to generate skilled labor force to meet the
demand of skilled labor nationally and in the international market. Keeping in
view the technological advancements of the era, the government should focus
on possible youth entrepreneurship initiatives in the field of technology,
education, health and online businesses.

The demographic variation can have explosive socioeconomic and political

consequences until the people are given equal access to health, education and
livelihood and their feeling of deprivation is addressed.

Youth is bright future in development of Pakistan

Some of them may well be new parents at 28. Will

they be able to look at their own children, and see a
brighter future for them?
Pakistan has some important decisions to make if
it wants to give its children the future they deserve .
If the country can make the right decisions now,
Pakistan can accelerate and sustain growth to
become a confident upper middle-income by the
time it turns 100. It’s ambitious but possible.

Other countries –South Korea, China, and Malaysia

– have transformed their economies within a
generation, and there is no reason why Pakistan
cannot achieve the same.

The alternative is not inspiring. If the country fails to

accelerate and sustain growth as well as control
population growth, by 2047 income levels will be
close to where they are today and with challenges
similar to what they are today.
I like to imagine another Pakistan, in which stunting
and malnutrition are gone, in which family
background does not determine what job you can
get, women compete equally with men, businesses
thrive , and Pakistan competes with the likes of
Shanghai or Singapore as a trading hub.
And as importantly, Pakistan needs to make some
big decisions on its growing population.
Pakistan’s population could soon double to 400
million, overwhelming education and health
services, and increasingly straining Pakistan’s
natural resources.
Female labor force participation in Pakistan is one

Last month we launched a report, Pakistan@100:

Shaping the Future, which looks at some of the
reforms needed to accelerate and sustain growth
and transform Pakistan’s economy.

Now is the time to come together and see what

needs to be done to achieve this goal. A growth
narrative for Pakistan needs to rest on these four
elements: investing in people; using resources more
efficiently; caring for the environment; and finally,
improving how Pakistan is run to support growth
and the implementation of difficult reforms.

Pakistan needs to think big on investing in its people

.
Any country wanting economic growth to be
sustained and fair needs to ensure it has a
productive population.

Nutrition, education, jobs, and skills are all key in a

country where 23 million children are out of school
and well over a third of its population is stunted .

And as importantly, Pakistan needs to make some

big decisions on its growing population.

Women in Pakistan have many more children than

women elsewhere in South Asia or many peer
countries.

Pakistan’s population could soon double to 400

million, overwhelming education and health
services, and increasingly straining Pakistan’s
natural resources.

Reducing the birthrate will also be good for the

country’s development and allow women to work
outside the home if they so wish.

Female labor force participation in Pakistan is one

of the lowest in the world, reducing the economic
contribution that half of Pakistan’s population can

Youth all over the world through history, has been a

revolutionary force. It is the precious asset and
opulence that can revive a nation going through
hard time. Youth of a nation can do wonders if
availed, trained, educated and informed in an
optimum fashion. Literally it refers to all the human
force in a nation lying between the age group of 18
– 29 years. Though tender an age, yet the intellect,
physical strength and wisdom it possesses has no
parallel.
Pakistan, our much-loved homeland; is passing
through challenging times in regard to economic,
social and political turmoil. Crime rate is increasing,
with a fast depletion of natural resources,
deteriorating agriculture and power shortages, with
instances of severe human right violation and
sufferings of the common man. There are
demonstrations and strikes, brutalities and scourge
that affect hundreds everyday. In such a chaos
there is still a huge quantum of hope along side,
there is anticipation and prospects en route for
accomplishment and triumph. Consequently, there
is a huge responsibility lying on the young
generation’s shoulders, towards nation building. To
bring the state of affairs back on track the youth has
to play its proactive role to help change things for
better, and to revive the state of affairs from getting
worse.

Youth in Pakistan

Pakistan media is booming and ruling on every

person educating about every aspect of life but they
are also doing nothing for youth. They could formed
such platform in which they can hire the services of
youth in highlighting and solving different problems
of society and the result will definitely be good.
Through this we could also control the rising
violence among youngsters because of no work if
the youth of Pakistan will be engaged in productive
Youth is wholly experimental and with the full
utilization of the talents of the Youth, Pakistan will
become a complete Nation. Let us hope for the
same.

‘Youth is like a fire It crept forward. A Spark at first

Growing into a flame The brightening into a Blaze’.

Such forums can help in policy making specifically

for the youth betterment and in general for public
welfare. Consequently, a society built on the needs,
wants and demands of its majority populace will be
a justice provoking and tolerant one in kind.

Youth participation in governance related issue is

essential to have a corruption free society in our
country. Youth should advocate against any
discrepancies and incongruity that affects the socio
political culture within Pakistan. Student unions and
groups can mobilize and advocate their point of
view by writing to newspapers, participating in
media, internet blogs, net communities, and
magazines; by pressurizing the authorities to bring
those elements answerable to the court of law. A
sense of responsibility among all the citizens and
among the youth in specific can trigger change
towards a tolerant and peaceful society.
Henceforth, an educated and proactive youth can
find solutions in a peaceful manner rather than
deteriorating the affairs.

Youth should get motivated and also encourage

their peers, colleagues and friends to bring about a
change n the mind set of the whole nation towards
critically analyzing the on going state of affairs in
the society and bring all the possible solutions at a
table; by joining hands together with various stake
holders including the private sector, Non-
government organizations, the educational
institutions and citizen groups. Dissecting and
analyzing the basic cause of the problem will lead to
a better understanding of the problem and will lead
to health some solutions. Rather than engraving
extremism, intolerance and hatred; there will be a
rational decision making with more effective
outcomes. For instance, the on going sugar, power
or fuel shortage ;the youth should be curious and
inquisitive enough to support rational decision
making and hence educate the people to all the
means mentioned before. This will lead to reduction
of frustration in the minds of the people. An idea, to
conserve resources and help the government
achieve its objectives can be a stance adopted by
youth. Possessing a better awareness and analysis,
there will be a positive drift towards the
conservation of resources rather than hatred and an
unpatriotic feeling towards the state and the
government. However, after achievement of the
primary goal; as a secondary achievement the youth
together as a coercive force should raise their voice
for the conservation of resources by the
Government run institutes and representatives. So,
that together the public and private sector can
reduce the sense of dispossession, disparity and
hatred among the masses.

Consequently, youth has miraculous capabilities;

which if availed in an optimum fashion can help
attain a course of success, prosperity and progress.
Youth in Pakistan, specially the privileged, educated
and well-informed part of the society; through all
measures can shun intolerance and help prevail
peace and prosperity in the society.

They have the power to change the nation. Young

mind will be more fresh and innovative which helps
in the progress of the country. But adequate
opportunities should be given to the youth to
represent their ideas and policies for the upliftment
of the nation. Only way to express the ideas and to
implement their policies is politics. Young people
should be motivated to take part in politics and to
occupy the high positions such as Prime Minister,
Chief Minister and Governor.

Knowledge and unity speaks a lot rather than

experience. For ex are some of the prominent
examples for the strength of youth. If the ruling
power is given in the hands of the youth, then
definitely India will become developed nation soon.

They have power to change. Education programs

should aim to teach and young minds right from the
school level the importance of choosing right
people who would take charge of governance.
Conventionally, youth have been asked to keep
away from politics. Youth should be motivated to
consider politics as a means to serve the nation.
They should be oriented on anti-corruption drives
with focus on prevention, education, and strategies
for fighting corruption. Good governance is realistic
with youth empowerment.

The role of the youth in the nation building is

crucial. They are problem solvers, have a positive
influence on other young people and the nation,
and are extremely ambitious. They have the ability
to create an identity for themselves and move the
nation forward. However, they will not be able to
do this without the support of family, community,
Government and fellow youths. Then the youth can
make their beautiful land flourish and shine in
success.

Since independence on 15th August 1947, India is striving hard to make India AatmNirbhar in every
field and we have also achieved it. It is time to set new goals for vision India 2047 so that when we
enter in 100 years of Independence, India will be world's best nation. For this purpose we have to
learn from our past works and future prospective. To make India word's best nation I am sure that
we will achieve the following targets when we enter in year 2047:

 100% Literacy Rate

 Affordable World Class Healthcare
 All are Self Dependent and Self Empowered
 Top rank holder in medal list of games such as Olympic games,
Commonwealth games,etc.
 Leader in Computer Science
 Leader in Artificial Intelligence
 Leader in Defence Weapon manufacturer and exporter
 Leader in Space Science
 Leader in Yoga and Spiritualty

Future vision always depends upon the current and previous work. Envisioning India @2047 is
basically what we can expect from our current work and what we have done since India's
independence. India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of
independence and the glorious history of it's people, culture and achievements. This celebration not
only marks our achievements during the last 75 years but also encourage us to envision the future
prospective of India to make our country world's best nation in every span of life by the year 2047.

Since independence on 15th August 1947, India is striving hard to make India AatmNirbhar in every

Education in India @ 2047

By the year 2047, we envision that India will be best place for advanced education system.

Focusing on the literacy rate of India, it can be observed that we have already achieved a lot in the
field of education but we have not reached yet 100% literacy rate. So continuous systematic effort
will improve the reach of education to the grassroot level where people living is farfetched areas will
also have access to the quality education. For this purpose affordable and quality education to
everyone should be our utmost priority.

 100% Literacy Rate

 Affordable World Class Healthcare
 All are Self Dependent and Self Empowered
 Top rank holder in medal list of games such as Olympic games,
Commonwealth games,etc.
 Leader in Computer Science

Healthcare in India @ 2047

India is second most populous country in the world which also demand world class medical facility. It
has been realized during covid-19 pandemic that there is a strong need to pay attention towards
healthcare sector.

Leader in International Games medal tally list India @2047

India is improving its rank in international games day by day however, a long journey is ahead to be
ranked number one in international games. India is highest in youth population who can participate
in every types of games. In the Olympic  Games Tokyo 2020, India scored total 7 medals and
secured 48th rank, however, the performance in the ongoing commonwealth games is much better.
It is time to give more focus in the field of sports. We should encourage youths to come forward to
participate in sport activities and government should also provide help and support these athletes
from the bottom root level so that athletes from the farfetched areas can also show their talent to the
world which will be pride of nation and make India on the top in international games like Olympics
and commonwealth

Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in India @ 2047

This is the era of technology where every work is somehow dependent on Internet and technology.
Also progress of a nation can be measured by the progress in the field of technology. India has done
a lot in the field of technology and in the past seven decades, India has built satellites, sent probes
to the moon and reached Mars in its first attempt. India has also established nuclear power stations,
acquired nuclear weapon capability and demonstrated firepower in the form of a range of missiles,
but achieving the targets and exploring the new things is sign of progress. Launch of 5G with high
bandwidth internet speed is sign of progress in the field of Internet. National Strategy on Artificial
Intelligence released by NITI Ayog focused on economic growth and increasing social inclusion with
a goal to “make India a global leader in Artificial Intelligence by ensuring responsible and
transformative AI for all.” This all shows that India has strong potential and will power to be leader in
computer science and artificial intelligence by the year 2047.

Envisioning India @2047: Conclusion

India is a developing nation and rich in natural resources, manpower and creative minds. During the
past seven decades we have already achieved a lot and incessantly working towards nation
building. We hope that when we enter in the year 2047, India will be leader in the every field. All the
evils such as corruption, poverty, illiteracy, hunger, discrimination etc. will no longer exist and every
person will be educated, self reliant, self empowered and living a respectful life and working towards
nation building and India's flag will fly across the world.

Re-imagining education in India at 100; it will be more innovative.

The futuristic education system will attain new heights of prosperity and enhance the education
system in the villages as well.

New Indian Ed-tech startups are getting wholesome investments since 2021, and India stands
2nd in terms of e-learning after the US. The E-learning & M-learning techniques will help
students for a rich educational experience from anywhere in the world.

The future Pakistan will need to manage its

economy in a completely different way . Today,
Pakistan’s growth story is one of boom and
bust.
Youth all over the world through history, has
been a revolutionary force. It is the precious
asset and opulence that can revive a nation
going through hard time. Youth of a nation can
do wonders if availed, trained, educated and
informed in an optimum fashion. Literally it
refers to all the human force in a nation lying
between the age group of 18 – 29 years.
Though tender an age, yet the intellect,
physical strength and wisdom it possesses has
no parallel.
Pakistan, our much-loved homeland; is passing
through challenging times in regard to
economic, social and political turmoil. Crime
rate is increasing, with a fast depletion of
natural resources, deteriorating agriculture and
power shortages, with instances of severe
human right violation and sufferings of the
common man. There are demonstrations and
strikes, brutalities and scourge that affect
hundreds everyday. In such a chaos there is still
a huge quantum of hope along side, there is
anticipation and prospects en route for
accomplishment and triumph. Consequently,
there is a huge responsibility lying on the young
generation’s shoulders, towards nation
building. To bring the state of affairs back on
track the youth has to play its proactive role to
help change things for better, and to revive the
state of affairs from getting worse.

Pakistani Youth’s Role in Development

The Pakistani Youth has stepped on a train

named as destiny that takes its passengers on
the path towards development. Since the
estAlongside the changing trends in 21st
century, problems of Pakistani youth have
started to dwindle. The world is a continuous
process of change and so it brings with it
distinctive features in which modernization in
youth plays huge importance. As globalization
took place, it became harder for teachers,
leaders and parents to further hold back youth
in homes. These students found their way to
their demands. The supply had always been
short but this time these young Pakistanis
created their own demand and became their
own suppliers. They have started to negate the
old irrational conventions that have been down
streaming their lives. Through the use of media,
internet and self right realization; these rising
humans instilled with great zeal and zest have
found a common point where they could lead
their lives with cultural and contemporary
trends.

The countries where the youth are agile and

pay their proper contributions towards their
nation are more developed. The youth have
some responsibilities towards their nation.
They must get proper and complete education
and Take part in welfare activities. Spread
awareness and education among the masses
about their rights and responsibilities and Help
other youths in building confidence and
pursuing the field of interest. Promotes the fair
image of the country before the world. They
must Guide newcomers in every field on right
lines. If they fulfill their responsibilities our
country will obviously progress by leaps and
bounds
Widespread  corruption  is  another  problem  which  can  be  tackled  by
the youth.  They  should  organize  themselves  and  form  anti-corruption
cells (independent  of  government  control)  and  take  up  particular
cases. corruption  and  expose  the  guilty both  politicians  and  public
servants.  They, have  the  required  boldness .They  have  the  sincerity
of  purpose  to  unravel Corrupt  deals  and  officials  and  put  them  to
shame.  This  will  prevent  people from indulging  in  corrupt  practices

Local govt and youth

T he young population of Pakistan can be seen as a problem as well as an

opportunity.
So far we have been unable to realise the potential of the youth. We have
failed to fully integrate them in the policy and governance models. At times,
we have also been unmindful of this asset.
The goals and targets set for the future should have significant input from
those to whom the future belongs. The opposite is happening. It is mostly the
old guard who chalk out the future course for the youth. The voices of the
youth often do not find enough attention in the policy and decision-making
corridors. As a result the youth are not only disoriented but also prone to
violent extremism.
Making the local governments youth-led can help engage them in healthy
political activity. This will also prepare them for the future challenges. They
will have a firsthand experience of the decision-making process.
The local governments should be the domain of young leaders. They should
devise strategies for sustainable development and progress. Development or
progress can’t be sustainable unless it caters to the needs and aspirations of
the future generation.
Participation of the youth in policy making can bring sustainability to the
policies. The driving idea is that the democratically elected youth can be
instrumental in making the governments more effective and democratically
entrenched.
Ceding leadership of the local governments to the youth will enable them to
learn and feel empowered. They will grow more aware of their rights,
develop decision-making skills and gain a sense of control. Participation may
also enhance their interests in engaging in community service, political action
and other forms of public engagement. For some, it may lead to taking
interest in the public service sector.
To this end, amendments should be made in the Local Government Act to
make it youth-oriented. This will not only strengthen the democratic system
but will also reduce the likelihood of the youth ending up supporting
extremists.
Making local governments youth-led is hard in a system where so called
electables are preferred by most parties.

The youth represent the most influential and influenced segment of the
society. They can play a vital role in community development through self-
governance. It is imperative to listen to the youth’s aspirations and utilise
their vast energies.
They should participate in the local government politics and create an
environment where rule of law is ensured, corruption is eradicated and
transparency in public bodies is increased. Making local governments the
avenues where the youth can engage, influence and show their commitment
as leaders of the future can be a huge success for democracy.
It is hard to make local governments youth-led in a country where most
parties prefer ‘electables’ for their election tickets.
There is a need to raise awareness among the political parties and the general
public about the significance of the role of youth in society. Their
accomplishments and achievements need to be highlighted. There is a
proposal to amend the constitution to require that all political parties give a
certain proportion of tickets in local government polls to candidates below the
age of forty.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is a staunch opponent of dynastic politics and
believes in greater representation for the youth in politics.
There has already been a visible increase in the number of young
parliamentarians in the National Assembly and the Provincial Assemblies.
The need of the hour is to better equip the youth for reforms in the political
structure and political culture. We also need reforms in the education sector
which should have greater focus on skills development. This will enhance the
youth’s input in the development and governance models.
Appropriate policies and interventions in the political, social, educational, and
economic sectors can help the youth do better and make them safer and more
productive.

Empowering our youth

Published in The Express Tribune, August 1st, 2020.
Empowered youth can not only achieve great heights for
themselves but also positively impact society but unfortunately,
with the recent Covid-19 pandemic, the challenges have
increased for Pakistan’s youth.

Investing in young people can be the nation’s most strategic

investment. If provided with necessary opportunities such as quality
education, gainful employment, meaningful engagement, good mental
and physical health, and marketable skills, youth can gain the ability
and authority to make well-informed decisions to improve their and
their family’s well-being. Empowered youth can not only achieve great
heights for themselves but can also positively impact society at large.

Fortunately, Pakistan is young and will continue to remain young for at

least another decade. With more than 68% of its population below the
age of 30 years, investment in youth empowerment ought to be a top
priority in Pakistan. Unless this demographic dividend is transformed
and leveraged into a positive one, Pakistan will be at risk of leaving
more young people further behind and not able to meet the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda.

But the current human development indicators for Pakistan’s youth do

not present a very promising picture. Nearly 30% of youth are illiterate
and nearly 77% quit education and began working for financial
reasons. The national education budget remains at 2.3% of GDP.
Adding to this is the youth unemployment rate at 5.79%. Youth make
up 36.9% of Pakistan’s total labour force: currently, there are more
people in the working age (15 to 64) than there are those who are
older (above 65), or children (under 15). Almost four million youth
attain working age every year, compared to the one million jobs added
per annum. Finally, the share of Pakistani youth not in education,
employment or training (NEET) stands at 30.96% (per cent of the
youth population). Ninety per cent youth have no access to
recreational facilities (libraries, cinemas, parks, etc.). In terms of
access to media, information and communication technologies, 48%
own a mobile, 15% have access to the Internet, 8% have access to
radio, and 68% have access to television.

Therefore, there are already several challenges the country faces with
regards to youth. Unfortunately, with the recent Covid-19 pandemic,
the challenges have increased. Aside from adverse economic and
political effect in Pakistan and worldwide, the pandemic has led to an
unprecedented impact on education systems all over the world,
translating into massive social consequences on youth. As of April
2020, as many as 191 countries including Pakistan had to call for a
nationwide or localised school closure to prevent the spread of the
virus. This means that almost 91% of the total enrolled students in the
world or 1.5 billion people had to face disruptions to their education of
uncertain duration. In Pakistan, 42 million school-going youth are
facing discontinuation of education due to Covid-19.

As young people form the biggest segment of the society in Pakistan,

their contribution can be immense in reducing the spread and fighting
Covid-19. They can act as agents of change through being educated
about the virus and then acting as instruments of dissemination.
Creating awareness is a key role they can play, given they can
optimally utilise digital media, especially in the current circumstances.
The Government of Pakistan has created a Covid-19 Tiger Force to
benefit from the youth dividend and engage them for Covid-19
response. This awareness-raising can be extended to the macro level
through youth being engaged with different groups and organisations
that have the ability to reach out to the masses. The youth can also
actively participate as workers, managers and entrepreneurs to
support the economic recovery, by innovating and finding solutions to
the problems arising from the ongoing crisis, through the creation of
new products and services using technology and other platforms.

The federal and provincial governments have taken several steps for
youth participation and empowerment over the years. These have
included introducing youth-friendly policies and initiatives, such as
loan and laptop awarding schemes, internship programmes, financial
funds, entrepreneurship initiatives, vocational training programmes,
several skills and leadership trainings.

The most notable is the Kamyab Jawan — National Youth

Development Program (2019-2023), launched by the federal
government, with support from several UN agencies. The programme
addresses six thematic areas for federal-provincial collaboration
including, 1) Mainstreaming of Marginalised Youth; 2) Economic
Empowerment; 3) Civic Engagement; 4) Social Protection; 5) Health
and Wellbeing, and 6) Youth-focused Institutional Reforms.

Such investments in the youth are crucial to ensure their skills are
adequately utilised and the dividends reaped. With the current
pandemic shifting the mode of work from physical to digital, it has
become even more important than the youth are equipped to transition
to a digital economy so Pakistan can compete with the world for
service provision and technical expertise.

In Pakistan’s socio-economic context and youth demography, the

government’s youth empowerment and development initiatives will
need to be flexible and capable of keeping up with a high-wired youth
that is fast, sharp and politically opinionated. This will also direct future
youth programming in the country that will not only implement pre-
determined agendas but will also be smart and flexible enough to
effectively respond to emerging realities as well as global crises, that
have not been factored in.

Arab youth want to see fundamental changes in political

and civil rights, the economy, education, technology, and
peace and conflict resolution in the Middle East and North
Africa. This has been illustrated in a mini poll conducted
by Sada that sought to explore young Arabs' priorities and
what they consider essential to improve political,
economic, and social conditions in their countries.
The participants’ answers varied according to each country
and its unique circumstances, but it is remarkable that the
youth in their entirety agreed that the participation of
young people in political and economic decision-making,
the reduction of unemployment rates, the improvement of
economic conditions, and the liberation of Arab markets
from rentier economic systems are among the basic factors
necessary for state stability and preventing political
turmoil. Civil and political rights enshrined under the rule
of law and existing alongside social justice topped the list
of demands, as well as respect for freedom of opinion and
expression and the upholding of human rights. Economic
development and creating suitable economic
environments for young people ranked second in the list of
demands that Arab youth want in the new year.
In Arab countries experiencing armed conflict such as
Yemen, Syria, and Libya, ending their respective wars and
conflicts has been a top priority, in addition to restoring
peace and stability. Improving the economy was their
second priority, closely followed by improving the
education system, ensuring public freedoms, and
respecting human rights.

Arab Youth’s Top Priorities

1. Guaranteeing civil and political rights

2. Developing the economy and reducing unemployment
3. Improving education and promoting technological
advancement
4. Ending wars and division/peace and stability
5. Respecting women’s rights
6. Sponsoring/supporting culture and arts

Youth vote as a driver of reform

At the time of the 2013 general election, a fifth of Pakistan’s 85 million registered voters
were under 25 while 15 per cent between 26 and 30. Since then
some 15,000 people are turning 18 each day, adding 10 million people to the voters list
until the 2018 general elections. Young people value service delivery that responds to
its needs: better health, better education, more jobs, clean drinking water to name a
few. The incumbent and future government’s desire to capture the youth
vote may drive the desire to tap into the youth’s aspirations and push for required
reform.

The above stories of change are a clear sign that the youth of Pakistan are full
of potential, energy and ideas. What they need is an enabling environment
that will allow them to take risks, innovate and engage productively. We also
need to develop such institutions which promote youth and give them a
chance to share their ideas and aims with their elders, because a country’s
development only depends on its youth.

Technology and the youth

By Amanat Ali Chaudhry

April 09, 2017

The future of Pakistan is inextricably linked with its youth. They are the
architects and builders of its destiny and the repository of its aspirations and
dreams. They have what it takes to take this nation to new heights of glory.

Pakistan is lucky to have its population matrix defined by its youth bulge.
However, in order to optimally benefit from the youth’s talent and energy, we
need to make critical investments in their empowerment. Our youth needs an
enabling environment in which they can hone their skills and polish their
talents. In this way they will be able to respond to challenges effectively.

This brings us to the launch of Punjab chief minister’s E-Rozgar Programme,

which aims to enable our youth and fresh graduates to develop critical soft
skills. It is geared towards exposing them to online freelancing opportunities
available on the information technology platforms.

Under this programme, 40 E-Rozgar centres have been set up in all the 36
districts of Punjab. The objective of the programme is to enhance
employability as well as employment opportunities for young graduates. The
idea is to provide training opportunities to the youth and students for self-
employment by using internet-based freelancing. The government will assist
the youth in earning a sustainable income.

Under this initiative of the government, 10,000 freelancers will be produced

per annum across the province. The services to be provided at the E-Rozgar
centres include trainings, provision of co-working spaces, 24-hour mentoring,
development of a comprehensive understanding of freelancing and sharing of
freelance success stories.

The idea characterising this programme is to empower our youth to become

job creators instead of job seekers. It is aimed at making them financially
independent through the provision of online opportunities leading to upward
economic and social mobility. Here, they can equip themselves with the
necessary skill-set required for online freelancing and exposure. It will make
them self-employed and self-sustainable in income generation for themselves
and their families.

By coming across a whole range of opportunities and options globally, our

youth can contribute to national development by bringing in foreign
exchange. The field of online freelancing offers amazing prospects for growth
to our girls and women who find it hard to adapt to public careers for various
reasons. Here they can still explore limitless possibilities while staying at home.

This calls for a paradigm shift in our thinking. We have to starve the The
empowerment of youth through technology is a fantastic idea that needs to
be explored and built further.

Youth of Pakistan vital in digital

transformation

ARTICLE: Pakistan's vision for a digitalized future is one that will enable the
country to thrive through the immense potential of connectivity. A digital
future will redefine societies, enabling growth and development, enhancing
education and industry, and building new capacity for accelerating the
economy.
Pakistan has been working tirelessly towards the development of its youth.
This has been reflected by the adoption of the 2030 Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), through which the country aims to activate a number of policies
and actions that help empower and engage the youth for achieving the SDGs.

In line with this vision, Pakistan has launched initiatives, such as "Digital
Pakistan", that aim to empower the youth and enable them to become drivers
of the country's economic growth. Such initiatives are certainly establishing a
strong base for the information and communications technology (ICT)
ecosystem to thrive upon - but what we now need is to put our focus on
Pakistan's youth, to prepare them to take over and drive the country's digital
future.

ICT is playing a significant role in transforming economic activity.

Considering its ongoing spread and importance for growth, developing ICT
skills among the youth has major and tangible benefits on the advancement of
digital economy.

argest part of pakistani population is that of Youth.

young blood is known for aspiration.
if youth today can take some serious steps to these ends
productive change is due.
in this context young generation has got to firmly subscribe to the
following sagacious behaviour.
1. Tolerance and rationally secular reaction to the conservative and conventionally ridiculous
gaps, pervasive throughout pakistani society.
2.Respect common for all regardless of so called differences.
3.priority to national causes and marginal treatment to local ones.
4.Sense of equality.
5.Display of public concerns from one province to the other not giving room to criticism and
blame game.
6.Staging protest against respective regional administrations and their policies if found
acting for such differences.
7.harmony and mutual cultural flow.
and many more traits that if firmly established in the behaviour of our youth, a huge change
can be witnessed in the country. Enshallah

Technology affects everyone! Whether positive or negative, we

are all affected, how it manifests itself into problems for youth
will be studied and debated for years. Balancing technology
throughout the educational process and keeping with current

measure the effects of technology on our ability to socialize or
have a successful social life? Socializing is not just talking face to

work and not interact in society, then they would be better off,
but that is almost impossible. There will always be a need to
interact within society to work, play, and live. Survey taken by
1280 people asks, “Does technology help students' social skills,
or hurt them? They concluded interruptions by email, social
networks, text messaging and other software tools account for
over half the distractions and individual faces on a daily basis.
“In fact, 45% of employees work only 15 minutes or less without
getting interrupted, and 53% waste at least one hour a day due
to all types of distractions.”(edutopia.org) Study suggests the
general concern of the negative aspects technology has the
development of interpersonal skills, like listening, emotional
intelligence and empathy. Children and young adults are easily

Despite constituting a major chunk of our population, our youth are lagging behind in
every field. They have a major role to play in country’s progress but due to lack of
support they are facing many new challenges in today’s society: they are afflicted by an
identity crisis, lack of self-confidence, a sense of hopelessness and confusion, and
ambiguity concerning about moral issues and the future. They have been trapped in a
culture marked by guns, violence and drugs. All this has resulted in an unstable
economy, a shattered confidence of foreign investors, lawlessness and a break-up of
the social fabric. Let’s see what major problems are faced by our youth.

The most profound problem our youth is facing at present is frustration. This monster is
eating up our youth slowly and gradually. The youth in Pakistan don’t have jobs, means
of healthy entertainment, health resources and awareness. The frustration as a result of
multitude problems is increasing day by day.

Education is the most powerful weapon of the youth. With it they could lead their
country towards progress. Unfortunately, quality and skill based education is still a
dream for our youth, especially for the poor. There is no formal guidance for students in
logical selection of a specific course of study. There is no unified education system. Our
universities and colleges have become degree distributing machines. Education does
not mean only degrees but in its true sense it is the future of the youth.

Another major problem faced by our youth is unemployment. After completing their
education, they find no job to utilize their skills to serve their country. This is the result of
government’s inability to utilize youth in a proper manner. Deteriorating conditions are
also responsible for low investment in the country, resulting in fewer job opportunities.
Unemployment is a multi-dimensional and complex issue which starts a vicious circle of
associated problems like involvement of youth in radical politics, bank and household
burglaries, social insecurity, lawlessness, and use of drugs.

Poverty is another major problem of our youth. Due to lack of resources they are unable
to get quality education and pursue their field of interest. Poverty is a sort of disease
which is weakening our youth. They are unable to fully use their talent and serve their
country.

Youth bulge is an ever increasing global threat and Pakistan’s majority of population is youth. No
doubt, youth is a resource but if left underutilized and ignored, it can be a challenge for a country.
Youth in Pakistan is facing multiple challenges that hinder their endeavor for their own development
as well country’s well-being. This paper suggests creating and implementing effective youth policies
with equal participation of young people as stakeholders. It is also recommended to create
coordination among provinces of the country for the purpose of improving youth well-being. This
paper puts forth assumption that developed youth make a developed country, so youth development
must be taken as priority task by the policymakers and legislators of Pakist

The main
problemwith the

Therefore, itdoes not
include the real issues
of the youth which
were not part of this

What to do?
An integrated policy at the federal level is required to address youth development as a
cross-sectoral issue. Pakistan currently lacks a national youth policy which would
accelerate efforts for the youth. More initiatives like the Kamyab Jawan Program
(KJP) and Skilled Education Program must be encouraged to bring about better job
opportunities.

The government has so far disbursed around Rs 1 billion among the female
entrepreneurs under these initiatives which is a positive sign.

In addition, efforts on behalf of the private sector are also due. The private sector must
take it as a challenge to come forward and establish a separate department at all levels
to guide new entrants in making choices for the right discipline and consequently, the
right profession.

Educational institutions, at their own level, must engage consultants to develop

programmes for the aptitude evaluation of the youth to strengthen their prospects.

In terms of career prospects, government must play an active role in intensifying efforts
to impart technical education so as to open wider choices just like in the west where
courses are offered for a variety of professions such as in mechanics, IT, science,
health and others. Such alternatives are always preferred due to their attractive financial
packages.

Likewise, the government must give due protection to private employees in terms of job
security If the country can make the right decisions now, Pakistan can accelerate and
sustain growth to become a confident upper middle-income by the time it turns 100. It’s
ambitious but possible.

Other countries –South Korea, China, and Malaysia – have transformed their
economies within a generation, and there is no reason why Pakistan cannot achieve the
same.

The alternative is not inspiring. If the country fails to accelerate and sustain growth as
well as control population growth, by 2047 income levels will be close to where they are
today and with challenges similar to what they are today.
I like to imagine another Pakistan, in which stunting and malnutrition are gone, in which
family background does not determine what job you can get, women compete equally
with men, businesses thrive , and Pakistan competes with the likes of Shanghai or
Singapore as a trading hub.

Last month we launched a report, Pakistan@100: Shaping the Future, which looks at
some of the reforms needed to accelerate and sustain growth and transform Pakistan’s
economy.

Now is the time to come together and see what needs to be done to achieve this goal. A
growth narrative for Pakistan needs to rest on these four elements: investing in people;
using resources more efficiently; caring for the environment; and finally, improving how
Pakistan is run to support growth and the implementation of difficult reforms.

Pakistan needs to think big on investing in its people .

Any country wanting economic growth to be sustained and fair needs to ensure it has a
productive population.

Nutrition, education, jobs, and skills are all key in a country where 23 million children are
out of school and well over a third of its population is stunted .

And as importantly, Pakistan needs to make some big decisions on its growing
population.

Women in Pakistan have many more children than women elsewhere in South Asia or
many peer countries.
Pakistan’s population could soon double to 400 million, overwhelming education and
health services, and increasingly straining Pakistan’s natural resources.

Reducing the birthrate will also be good for the country’s development and allow women
to work outside the home if they so wish.

Female labor force participation in Pakistan is one of the lowest in the world, reducing
the economic contribution that half of Pakistan’s population can make. Pakistan’s
people are its greatest asset, but only if the country is able to invest a lot more and a lot
better in its children.

The future Pakistan will need to manage its economy in a completely different way .
Today, Pakistan’s growth story is one of boom and bust.

A few years of strong growth are always followed by a crisis. We are in the middle of
such a crisis. To avoid such crises in the future, both the state’s revenue collection and
its private sector must be strengthened.

Efforts to broaden the tax net and bolster tax administration will permanently increase
tax revenues without continuing to increase the burden on those already paying taxes.

The country’s private sector needs to be made more competitive through an improved
business environment, increased openness to trade and investment, and reforms in the
energy sector .

Caring for the environment is a key concern. Water needs to be better managed.
Today, more than 80% of Pakistan’s water irrigates crops that generate less than 5% of
the economy, and much is wasted.

Better infrastructure, management, and pricing that reflects the cost of service and
water’s scarcity will go a long way toward improving water efficiency. Efforts will also be
needed to tackle air and water pollution, including how we use plastics.

All of these will have to be underpinned by a governance framework that is transparent

and fosters accountability in how Pakistan is run. Politicians and public leaders should
be more aligned with citizen needs. Too often, we have seen policies being
implemented that do not necessarily benefit the general population, but just a few.

Some of the reforms, particularly those that redistribute rents from elites to the general
population, will be difficult and encounter opposition.

But, over the past three and a half years that I have been the World Bank’s Country
Director for Pakistan, I have seen many things that make me hopeful: Committed and
capab

le politicians and civil servants that have the interest of Pakistan’s people in their hearts;
Strong institutions that have withstood turbulent times ; A curious, dynamic and
impatient youth population that wants to conquer the world; Families that work hard to
give their children a better future; A private sector that can be world-class under the
right circumstances; A courageous and charitable population that comes together as the
need arises.
I wonder what they will see when they look around. Will they see a country teeming with
opportunity? Or will they be in a country that does not offer enough jobs and does not
provide the needed skills to compete?

Some of them may well be new parents at 28. Will they be able to look at their own
children, and see a brighter future for them?

Pakistan has some important decisions to make if it wants to give its children the future
they deserve .

If the country can make the right decisions now, Pakistan can accelerate and sustain
growth to become a confident upper middle-income by the time it turns 100. It’s
ambitious but possible.

Other countries –South Korea, China, and Malaysia – have transformed their

Youth all over the world through history, has been a revolutionary force. It is the
precious asset and opulence that can revive a nation going through hard time. Youth of
a nation can do wonders if availed, trained, educated and informed in an optimum
fashion. Literally it refers to all the human force in a nation lying between the age group
of 18 – 29 years. Though tender an age, yet the intellect, physical strength and wisdom
it possesses has no parallel.

Pakistan, our much-loved homeland; is passing through challenging times in regard to

economic, social and political turmoil. Crime rate is increasing, with a fast depletion of
natural resources, deteriorating agriculture and power shortages, with instances of
severe human right violation and sufferings of the common man. There are
demonstrations and strikes, brutalities and scourge that affect hundreds everyday. In
such a chaos there is still a huge quantum of hope along side, there is anticipation and
prospects en route for accomplishment and triumph. Consequently, there is a huge
responsibility lying on the young generation’s shoulders, towards nation building. To
bring the state of affairs back on track the youth has to play its proactive role to help
change things for better, and to revive the state of affairs from getting worse.

Literally a tolerant society refers to the one which supports for practices that prohibit
ethnic and religious discrimination, and likewise a peaceful society is the one
undisturbed by strife, turmoil, or disagreement, there is existence of a tranquil
environment . An amalgam of the aforementioned traits, which are a prerequisite of an
ideal society, will lead to good governance and democratic practices. Thus in the long
run it will determine the state of well being of the nation. In Pakistan, one of the main
hurdles towards progress and development has been the continuous intolerance and
restlessness among all segments of the society, leg pulling of the political leaderships

Pakistani Youth’s Role in Development

The Pakistani Youth has stepped on a train named as destiny that takes its passengers
on the path towards development. Since the establishment of Pakistan, youth had
always been crushed and oppressed by teachers, leaders and parents. Moreover the
role of youth in politics has always been limited due to corrupt and inept political system.
They failed to get exposed to the world that could lead to a new era of modernization.
As the clock ticked and time flew, things started to change their discourse. The new
century brought about much advancement along with the change in trends of Pakistani
youth.

Mobilizing the Youth of Pakistan

Pakistan has been undergoing a demographically-charged metamorphosis process. As

compared to the neighboring nations we have a very strong youth strata. Apart from the
education and motivated youth of our country, the government and many other private
organizations are providing platforms for the youth to showcase their abilities.

Since the tsunami of 2005, the Pakistani youth has been seen to bring together a
change for the victims and survivors of the tsunami. Without much governmental
support in the beginning, the youth brought a promising difference to the tsunami
victims by organizing donation and charity events where a regular man could donate to
the survivors. The mobilization of the youth of Pakistan has been a proactive approach
by the youth where very less organizational input was witnessed.

The mobilization and the confidence to start a movement have been inculcated by the
school systems which encourage teamwork and proactive challenges. That motivates
the students to work past the basic trials and to challenge the society with their
specialized skills and enthusiasm. Recently the school systems have been following up
on the schooling system of American and British education programs which focus more
on the student’s inner inspiration rather than the study-text-knowledge. These education
regimes imply that if the student is inspired from within, there is no barrier he cannot
overcome.

Following with the proactive initiatives taken by the students and the youth strata,
organizations such as Navitus, School of Leadership and the likes have been
aggressively holding conferences to hone the skills and the enthusiasm of the youth in a
productive manner. These schools also hold workshops which help the youth to figure
out the various platforms which they can vouch for in order to get their voice across and
their objective achieved.

The recent successful conferences have been by the School of Leadership, under the

The countries where the youth are agile and pay their proper contributions towards their
nation are more developed. The youth have some responsibilities towards their nation.
They must get proper and complete education and Take part in welfare activities.
Spread awareness and education among the masses about their rights and
responsibilities and Help other youths in building confidence and pursuing the field of
interest. Promotes the fair image of the country before the world. They must Guide
newcomers in every field on right lines. If they fulfill their responsibilities our country will
obviously progress by leaps and bounds.

Despite constituting a major chunk of our population, our youth are lagging behind in
every field. They have been trapped in a culture marked by guns, violence and drugs.
All this has resulted in an unstable economy, a shattered confidence of foreign
investors, lawlessness and a break-up of the social fabric. Let’s see what major
problems are faced by our youth.

The most impounding problem our youth is facing at present is frustration. This monster
is eating up our youth slowly and gradually.

Illiteracy is a very big problem in Pakistan. Pakistan has a large youth population. An
estimated 103 million or 63% of the population fall under the age of 25 years. Due to
endemic poverty, the majority of youth in Pakistan do not have the opportunity to
experience a childhood. Male youth literacy rate is estimated to be 53% and female
youth literacy rate is even lower at 42%. As far employment is concerned 15% of the
youth is unemployed. If we would be able to control illiteracy we will be able to get a lot
from our youth.

“The foundation of every state is the education of its youth.”

(Diogenes Laertius)

Poverty is another major problem of our youth. Due to lack of resources they are unable
to get quality education and pursue their field of interest. Poverty is a sort of disease
which is weakening our youth.
Owing to poverty and unemployment, parents instead of sending their children to
schools, prefer child labour for them. Child labour is a sort of deluge that is draining
away our precious talent to be utilized in right place.

Our youth in the grim situation finding no other consolation resort to the use of drugs.
Growing use of narcotics is becoming a major problem of our youth.

Despite the multiplicity of problems, it is still a right time for government to take some
pragmatic steps. Of the 15 largest countries in the world in terms of population, Pakistan
has by far the youngest population. We need to bear in mind that

“the destiny of nations is in the hands of youth”

Keeping in view this fact, here are some suggestions to make good use of our youth:

• Competitive teachers must be recruited who could encourage and guide our youth to
right lines.

• Politics must be prevented in the educational institutions.

• It has become a common psyche among the well-educated people that after the
completion of the education they would leave their country in the lurch. Government
must prevent brain-drain in our country by providing full employment and act as a
magnet for bright minds.

• Parents should teach youngsters patience to face the difficulties and be steadfast.

• Youth be given ample opportunities to prove and cash their skill in every field.

• Right men be placed on right places.

Pakistan media is booming and ruling on every person educating about every aspect of
life but they are also doing nothing for youth. They could formed such platform in which
they can hire the services of youth in highlighting and solving different problems of
society and the result will definitely be good. Through this we could also control the
rising violence among youngsters because of no work if the youth of Pakistan will be
engaged in productive

work so, it will bring change also and our society will be saved from further destruction.

Majority of Pakistan's Population live in Villages & backward towns. Most People there
don't have the vision & they don't understand importance of vote, later on its
effect,towards Pakistan's Overall Progress & Development.But there are some
educated people in such areas who can play vital role in convincing their local people.
People in such areas don't have access to cable news channels. If rural youth became
able access media and we become successful in mobilizing them we would progress
with double speed.

In order for youth to be prepared to work in partnership with adults, they need to
develop and/or enhance their leadership skills. Leadership training prepares youth to
manage time, work as a team, set goals, start conversations, facilitate meetings, and
make effective presentations. Promoting youth leadership development is a great way
to promote positive life skills learning.

Our youth is not lack in ideas of changing our society but proper guidance is not being
provided to us. We should bringing change from our schools and colleges, there should
be a volunteer student organization in every school, colleges and university of Pakistan
and they should be supported from our elders for the services they rendered for making
a change.

Youth ministry is there in Pakistan but without planning and without, even so many
youth do not even aware of what actually youth ministry is. They can engage youth in
every project so that we should be aware of our capabilities and achievement.
Unfortunately no one is bothered to dream any s vision. Martin Luther has said, "I have
a Dream" and the dream come largely true. If he had not thought of that dream he
would have accomplished nothing in his life. Another problem is its indifferent attitude
towards things, situation and politics .The new cool formula of “let the things be “is
proving fatal to Pakistan's development .

Pakistan can become a developed nation only if everyone contributes to the best of his
or her capacity and ability. Youth is wholly experimental and with the full utilization of
the talents of the Youth, Pakistan will become a complete Nation. Let us hope for the
same.

‘Youth is like a fire It crept forward. A Spark at first Growing into a flame The brightening
into a Blaze’.

outh all over the world through history, has been a revolutionary force. It is the precious
asset and opulence that can revive a nation going through hard time. Youth of a nation
can do wonders if availed, trained, educated and informed in an optimum fashion.
Literally it refers to all the human force in a nation lying between the age group of 18 –
29 years. Though tender an age, yet the intellect, physical strength and wisdom it
possesses has no parallel.

In Pakistan, one of the main
hurdles towards progress and development has been the continuous intolerance and
restlessness among all segments of the society, leg pulling of the political leaderships
and democratic rulers, which eventually led to undemocratic practices over the course
of the past decades. Youth, especially students have been exploited for the self
interests of different pressure groups. Hence, in present time the youth has to
differentiate and target the required sources to prevent the history from repeating itself;
hence join hands for the cause of the nation.

Youth comprises the major portion of the demography in Pakistan. An educated and
well informed youth can revive the present state of restlessness in the country.
However, we shall elucidate the youth role towards a peaceful and tolerant society in an
elaborate manner. It follows a hierarchical procedure in order to trigger, implement and
then maintain a desired state of mind among the people. Theory without practice is of
little use. Change and innovation needs to be implemented at the grass root level for
sufficient and desirable outcomes.

Foremost of all youth should avail their right to vote, which can and certainly will bring a
desired change with their huge power in term of population and strength, in the political
and social arena. They should make an active use of their civic rights like freedom of
speech, form groups for certain national interests; attend to conferences, use Internet,
avail the press, radio and television, by offering an article or feature in the newspapers,
holding press conferences, distributing hand-outs for sharing their particular point of
view among others, and should report on the problems facing the nation in an objective
manner with responsibility. Youth should get motivated to becoming part of
commissions and participate in youth action plans; which will give a vent to the voice of
the youth in an effective manner. Such forums can help in policy making specifically for
the youth betterment and in general for public welfare. Consequently, a society built on
the needs, wants and demands of its majority populace will be a justice provoking and
tolerant one in kind.

Youth participation in governance related issue is essential to have a corruption free

society in our country. Youth should advocate against any discrepancies and
incongruity that affects the socio political culture within Pakistan. Student unions and
groups can mobilize and advocate their point of view by writing to newspapers,
participating in media, internet blogs, net communities, and magazines; by pressurizing
the authorities to bring those elements answerable to the court of law. A sense of
responsibility among all the citizens and among the youth in specific can trigger change
towards a tolerant and peaceful society. Henceforth, an educated and proactive youth
can find solutions in a peaceful manner rather than deteriorating the affairs.

Youth should get motivated and also encourage their peers, colleagues and friends to
bring about a change n the mind set of the whole nation towards critically analyzing the
on going state of affairs in the society and bring all the possible solutions at a table; by
joining hands together with various stake holders including the private sector, Non-
government organizations, the educational institutions and citizen groups. Dissecting
and analyzing the basic cause of the problem will lead to a better understanding of the
problem and will lead to health some solutions. Rather than engraving extremism,
intolerance and hatred; there will be a rational decision making with more effective
outcomes. For instance, the on going sugar, power or fuel shortage ;the youth should
be curious and inquisitive enough to support rational decision making and hence
educate the people to all the means mentioned before. This will lead to reduction of
frustration in the minds of the people. An idea, to conserve resources and help the
government achieve its objectives can be a stance adopted by youth. Possessing a
better awareness and analysis, there will be a positive drift towards the conservation of
resources rather than hatred and an unpatriotic feeling towards the state and the
government. However, after achievement of the primary goal; as a secondary
achievement the youth together as a coercive force should raise their voice for the
conservation of resources by the Government run institutes and representatives. So,
that together the public and private sector can reduce the sense of dispossession,
disparity and hatred among the masses.

Youth; having all the strength of the physical and mental abilities; possessing the
superiority of their power as a dominant demographic group can over come the
differences and sense of deprivation existing between the provinces. Student Groups;
or individuals at the floor of all forums should inculcate patriotism and nationhood
among the youth from other areas all over the country. Keeping the national interest
ahead everything and anything else, and crossing the barriers of language and culture,
youth should amalgamate and seek solutions to all problems. Understanding, analyzing
and then finding solutions to the demands of a deprived group; Youth should propose
solutions based on justice and efficient participation.

For the matter of fact, one of the major causes behind intolerance in Pakistan is the
poor performance of the bureaucracy and government officials over the past few
decades. Now, in order to revive and revitalize the system of government, Youth should
seek admissions into the Civil Services of Pakistan, as it would provide an honest
workforce keeping in view the factors of moral and mental determination of the youth,
which will lead to a better functioning of the systems.

Youth of today is vulnerable to many external influences in the Pakistani society. The
individual youth, at the level of its own individual entity needs to create a balance
between his internal dynamics and external influences. Internal dynamics should be firm
and persistent enough that pity matters should not overcome the emotional and
psychological aspects of an individual mind. However, in the state of a paradox, conflict
resolution between individual desires and available resources has to be disentangled
with a mature and considerate approach. Only, when the individual young mind is firm
and determined; can the whole society reform. In case the individual young mind of a
youth is in a state of conflict and discord, then many similar souls will together perish
the whole society with intolerant and highly irritable outcomes and consequences. Such
a practice in societies consequently leads to unrest and anarchy.

The next level at which tolerance needs to be sustained is the family life and with
friends and peers. Youth should start by helping each other with the little chores to
execute. Self discipline and helping each other should be made a part of daily routine.
Teams should be made to complete the tasks assigned or to fulfill a certain
responsibility. In a situation of conflict, effective dialogue and negotiations can work out
the problem. Often it happens that with the interference of a third party, the state of
paradox resolves much effectively.
Similarly, in a commune and in town; the youth should formulate teams to coup up with
the challenges and difficulties faced by that particular group of people. Be it
environmental, social or a similar hindrance, an efficient group effort executed by youth,
can lead to sufficient positive changes. While making teams, the team leader nominated
as a result of a popular vote should be capable of delivering justice and coordination
between the different members of the task force. If justice prevails, it will further lead to
successful achievement of the goals. Resolution of a problem will not lead to conflict
and intolerance, rather in time of a calamity the teams can provide work force through
the principle of self help and solidarity. Such practices at the level of our homes and
community will nurture tolerance and peace will have a great impact at the macro level.

While dealing with problems facing youth now a day in Pakistan, personal integrity,
character and determination is very important. I would describe character as a macro
effect of three components namely; humility, self discipline and tolerance (to both
external and internal stimulants). A Youth, sufficiently acquainted with character will
depict the character of the whole nation. In my point of view, it is each individual human
who needs to build up his or her morale, attitude, capability and character. Together
many strong individuals will evolve into a strong society resistant to the negative
influences, which will enable them to take the corrective action in time of insecurity or
difficult times.

On the National level youth can play miraculous roles towards the sustenance of a
peace, tolerant and a prosperous society. However, over the course of history youth has
been misguided by political parties and other interest groups in a tug of war against
each other. Youth has been exploited as well. In present days youth must indulge them
self towards a national goal, along side with their academic and professional carrier. For
this purpose a number of practical approaches can be followed.

Youth can have intimation with a political party based on the Party’s agenda and vision.
Student unions should become active in institutes, as this will enrich a democratic
culture and thus lead to the fulfillment of the Youth’s demands. Peace can only prevail if
there is supremacy of justice in the society. Justice and juristic practices can be
enhanced and practiced with an informative participative and a youth well acquainted
with responsibility for instance if we try to validate the following prevailing conditions that
the “Food and economic crises have increased food insecurity. Prices of essential food
items rose over 35 per cent in 2007-08, compared to an 18 per cent increase in labor
wages. Ongoing conflict in the north-west has displaced some 2 million people since
2008, with most displaced since April 2009. About a tenth of those displaced live in
camps for internally displaced people.” Evaluating and analyzing the consequences of
such a situation may speculate an increased risk and susceptibility to crime rate and
intolerance. However, the youth can debate on all available forums and take initiative to
help calm down the psychological and behavioral tendencies that my result in
restlessness in the society. For the sustenance of stable and prosperous future,
government institutions answerable to law the youth can play a vital role.

Consequently, youth has miraculous capabilities; which if availed in an optimum fashion

can help attain a course of success, prosperity and progress. Youth in Pakistan,
specially the privileged, educated and well-informed part of the society; through all
measures can shun intolerance and help prevail peace and prosperity in the society.

ndia has the edge of demographic dividend. They have the power to change the nation.
Young mind will be more fresh and innovative which helps in the progress of the
country. But adequate opportunities should be given to the youth to represent their
ideas and policies for the upliftment of the nation. Only way to express the ideas and to
implement their policies is politics. Young people should be motivated to take part in
politics and to occupy the high positions such as Prime Minister, Chief Minister and
Governor.

Knowledge and unity speaks a lot rather than experience. For instance, a mass protest
by the youth in Delhi for justice of Nirbhaya case, a mass protest in Delhi for India
against Corruption and a mass protest in the Marina beach for Jallikattu etc are some of
the prominent examples for the strength of youth. If the ruling power is given in the
hands of the youth, then definitely India will become developed nation soon.
They have power to change. Education programs should aim to teach and young minds
right from the school level the importance of choosing right people who would take
charge of governance. Conventionally, youth have been asked to keep away from
politics. Youth should be motivated to consider politics as a means to serve the nation.
They should be oriented on anti-corruption drives with focus on prevention, education,
and strategies for fighting corruption. Good governance is realistic with youth
empowerment.

The pivotal role of youth who are afresh with ideas and not ideals, will help in this
movement towards a transparent civil society structure which can influence the political
administration for the benefit of the society. It is only through a strong system of
representation that democracy work and it is only through a strong youth representation
that the dynamism and vigour of a country be maintained.

It is therefore important to acknowledge the role of civil societies in empowering youth

towards strengthening of the democratic system of the country and sustainable
development. The solution lies to effectively utilize modern tools in disseminating the
belief among youth on their participation and representation in democracy through civil
society initiatives.

Our nation needs them to resolve most of our problems. Currently India is facing a lot of
challenges, and youth are capable of solving them. They just need to be given a chance
to prove themselves. Youth have the power to unite individuals in the various ethnic
groups. Racism is an ongoing issue around the world. Individuals are fighting against
each other because of the complexion of their skin and the texture of their hair. Religion
is another issue, the youths can convince their fellow man to live in peace and love. All
of us are one and we should not allow these little differences to push us away from each
other. There also a lot of crime taking place. Women are being killed by their abusive
husbands. Person’s homes, businesses, are being broken into. All of this crime and
violence needs to stop. The youth once more has the ability to bring about a change in
the country.

Youths seems to have the ability to face any issues and challenges. They have a
positive influence on their fellow young people. They are able to teach them the positive
things in life. The ones who are destroying their future, they tend to listen to their fellow
youths. They will make them understand the importance of being a good human being.

The wise youth that we have out there should be taken into consideration. Some of
them, though educated are unemployed. They should be given an opportunity to expose
their intelligence to the world and make themselves into someone. Government, Civil
Society, voluntary organisations and other stakeholders should assist the youths; so
that they can make our land a great and educated one. They will make a huge
difference in society and the entire world. The youth are our life and nation. They will
make our country proud. The country will be recognized. The youth just need the
support and enabling environment at family level, community level, society level, state
level, national level and international level which in turn will them to perform their duties.

The role of the youth in the nation building is crucial. They are problem solvers, have a
positive influence on other young people and the nation, and are extremely ambitious.
They have the ability to create an identity for themselves and move the nation forward.
However, they will not be able to do this without the support of family, community,
Government and fellow youths. Then the youth can make their beautiful land flourish
and shine in success.
