B. Ground Run-Up Limitations:

WARNING: DURING GROUND RUN UP OPS, EXTREME CARE
SHOULD BE EXERCISED WHEN OPERATING ENGINES.
WARNING: DURING DUAL ENGINE OPERATIONS, DO NOT
ADVANCE POWER LEVERS ABOVE 80% HP SIMULTANEOUSLY.
CAUTION: IF STATIC GROUND OPERATIONS REQUIRE AN
ENGINE SPEED OF MORE THAN 65% LP, AIRCRAFT NOSE MUST
BE FACED INTO THE WIND.
CAUTION: BECAUSE ENGINE INLET IS DIRECTLY ABOVE
BAGGAGE DOOR, BAGGAGE DOOR MUST BE SECURELY
CLOSED PRIOR TO CRANKING OR STARTING LEFT ENGINE.

NOTE: Static operation above idle is limited to a crosswind

component of less than 25 knots and/or a tail wind component of
less than 20 knots.
Airflow disturbance across engine intake, particularly during gusty
or crosswind conditions, may result in fluctuating engine
indications.
Minimum oil temperature for advancing engine to takeoff power is
+20°C.
If outside air temperature is less than +1°C, refer to aircraft
maintenance manual for additional cold weather procedures.

Engine Run Checklist
Engine Starting – Checklist, ctd… GAC

NOTE: In order to reduce adverse thermal stresses, it is

recommended that engines are warmed up at thrust settings
normally used for taxi operation, for at least 5 minutes prior to
applying takeoff power.
If vibration levels are higher than normal, extend warm up period
by 5 minutes or until vibration levels have returned to normal.

2. Starting Engine (Normal)

CAUTION: IF STATIC GROUND RUN OPERATIONS REQUIRE AN
ENGINE SPEED OF MORE THAN 65% LP, AIRCRAFT NOSE MUST BE
FACED INTO THE WIND.
CAUTION: EXAMINE ENGINES FOR FREEDOM OF ROTATION
PRIOR TO OPERATION. ENSURE ENGINES ARE FREE FROM TOOLS
OR ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS (INTAKE AND EXHAUST) PRIOR TO
OPERATION.
CAUTION: PRIOR TO STARTING AUXILIARY POWER UNIT OR
ENGINE, HAVE GROUND OBSERVER IN PLACE AND COMPLETE A
CREW BRIEFING.
CAUTION: A RESIDUAL TURBINE GAS TEMPERATURE (TGT) IN
EXCESS OF 150°C MAY RESULT IN THE STARTING TGT LIMIT BEING
EXCEEDED. THE ENGINE SHOULD BE DRY CRANKED TO REDUCE
TEMPERATURE TO 150°C OR LESS.

CAUTION: THE MAXIMUM WINDS FOR STARTING ARE:

CROSSWINDS 30 KNOTS AND TAILWINDS 20 KNOTS. ALWAYS
COMPLETE PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKS, ENGINE RUN – PRE-
OPERATIONAL CHECKS, AND BEFORE STARTING ENGINES
CHECKLISTS PRIOR TO ENGINE START.
NOTE: In order to compensate for engine rotor bow characteristics, if the
engine has been shut down for more than approximately twenty (20)
minutes, but less than five (5) hours, the FADEC will perform an automatic
engine crank cycle at maximum cranking HP RPM before introducing fuel
for the engine start. An Advisory (blue) Engine Start Protect, L-R CAS
message will be displayed to alert the flight crew that the Rotor Bow
protection logic is activated during an automatic (normal) start.
Additionally, if the engine shutdown time or current time is unavailable or
invalid, the FADEC will command the Rotor Bow protection logic to be
activated. It is not unusual for peak EVM values above the alert level
(0.80) to be seen during these starts.

CAUTION: CONTINUED USE OF THE STARTER IS LIMITED TO

THREE (3) CRANK CYCLES, WITH A MAXIMUM OF THREE (3)
MINUTES PER CYCLE. DELAY FIFTEEN (15) SECONDS BETWEEN
START CYCLES. AFTER THREE (3) START CYCLES, DELAY USE
OF THE STARTER FOR AT LEAST FIFTEEN (15) MINUTES.
ALWAYS VERIFY POSITIVE LOW-PRESSURE ROTATION.
SELECTING FUEL CONTROL SWITCH TO RUN PRIOR TO
POSITIVE LOW-PRESSURE ROTATION MAY RESULT IN A HOT
START OR ENGINE FIRE. THIS IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN
TAILWIND CONDITIONS.
NOTE: The Engine Vibration Monitor (EVM) system is designed to
monitor engine vibrations at idle and above. Random, spurious EVM
values, sometimes above the alert level (0.80) may be observed
during the start sequence. This condition is normal.
