MAGNETISM

Magnets have north and south poles and produce magnetic fields. Magnetic fields have imaginary lines of force between poles that never cross. Unlike poles attract and like poles repel. A magnet orients itself along Earth's magnetic field. Hans Christian Oersted discovered that electric currents produce magnetic fields, providing the first evidence linking electricity and magnetism. Charged particles in motion within magnetic fields experience magnetic forces depending on their speed and path relative to field lines.
