UNIT 4 ASSIGNMENT 2

Introduction

It is crucial for me as a student studying in Canada's diverse cultural environment to

investigate the principles and ideals that influence the nation's politics, geography, and

history. This essay intends to explore my personal identity and family history and

emphasizing the value of honoring the First Peoples' traditional customs. You can learn more

about region's historical background and our obligations to the existing treaty by analyzing

my family's roots in Mumbai, India, and my current residence in Brampton, Ontario.

Self-description

I am Omkar Thorat, I see myself as an optimistic individual who is passionate and focused on

achieving long term goals. I first came across the term project during my secondary school in

an inter-school science project exhibition. I made a simple project on the transfer of energy

which surprisingly was chosen for the 1st Prize. To further add to my interest in science

projects I completed my bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with First Division where I

was exposed to a subject called project management which again sparked my interest. The

concepts thrilled me and gave me the motivation to tackle challenges in a creative way.

To gain exposure and to have a career trajectory I joined as a Project Coordinator (Design) in

a startup VC Technosolutions Pvt Ltd, CBD Belapur, Mumbai which was launched in 2020

immediately after my graduation, where I designed and managed surveillance Projects by

producing accurate designs and coordinating with Engineers and Architects. Further, I was

promoted as a Presales Lead looking at the company's future goals. My major responsibilities

were to handle RPFs (Request for Proposals), Prepare Solution Documents, determine

technical requirements to meet client goals, and liaison between sales and product

management teams.

My family is a close-knit one that holds deep cultural roots and loves its traditions, language

and values. We have a strong connection to our Indian cultural heritage.

UNIT 4 ASSIGNMENT 3

My family comes from Mumbai, a flourishing city on India's western coast. Mumbai,

frequently called Bombay, is very much perceived for its flourishing society, broad history,

and multicultural populace. My family has stayed associated with this region consistently,

fostering a feeling of home in both Mumbai and my native place Solapur where my parents

were born.

My Current Residence

I currently reside in Brampton, Ontario, which is located on the ancestral lands of First

Peoples. Brampton is part of the traditional territory of the Credit A first Nations'

Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Mississauga. Before European settlers arrived, this

location was referred to as Akawe Nishnabe, which in Anishinaabe means "Land of the

Turtle."

A brief history of Brampton and the Treaty

The history of Brampton, which was originally settled by Europeans, is intricately

intertwined with the hereditary nations of the First People. Native populations in the area

were gradually removed as European settlers built colonies. The settlement that is important

in the current situation is the Toronto Purchase of 1787.

The Toronto Purchase Treaty was marked between the British Crown and the Credit First

Nation Mississaugas. The Mississaugas agreed to relinquish ownership of a sizable portion of

territory, which included what is now Brampton and other areas of the Greater Toronto Area.

The Mississaugas were compensated financially and given land rights in exchange for their

possessions.

Personal Responsibilities

I pledge to understand and uphold the Toronto Purchase Treaty as a resident of Brampton.

Given the actual and ongoing significance of this arrangement, it is essential to participate in

acts of compromise, pursue higher education, and support for the rights and government aid

of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This commitment requires successfully

engaging in activities that encourage communication and cooperation as well as raising

awareness of and respect for Indigenous cultures.

Conclusion

To merge myself into Canada's rich social variety, it is crucial to understand my personal and

family histories as well as our ties to the traditional foundations and agreements that have

built our continuous networks. By acknowledging my roots in Mumbai, India, and my current

residence in Brampton, a notable Mississaugas community in the Credit First Nation, I am

better able to comprehend the fascinating pasts and diverse civilizations that coexist in

Canada. Adopting the traits and beliefs of the people is a personal commitment as well as a

chance to promote harmony, esteem, and involvement in our multicultural society.
