Course Description
The course comprises the meaning, types and principles of surveying. Measurement of distances:
principles of different methods and their accuracies and sources of errors. Measurement of angles and
directions. Reference meridians, bearings and azimuths; magnetic declination and its variations; use
and adjustment of compasses; measurement of horizontal distance, angles, elevations and leveling
techniques.

Course Objective and Learning Outcomes:

Up on successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
 Explore the different classical methods of surveying and measurements as well as the state of
the-art
 Examine ground survey technique used to generate data for topographic mapping
 Demonstrate basic familiarity and use of surveying instruments and ability to prepare field book
records.
