Industrial Safety & Laws
What Does Industrial
Safety Mean?

• As the name suggests, industrial safety refers to the

safety management practices that apply to the
industrial sector. Those processes aim to protect
industrial workers, machinery, facilities, structures,
and the environment.
• Industrial safety is overseen by central, state and
local laws and regulations. The Indian Association of
Occupational Health (IAOH) is the primary regulatory
body in India dedicated to workplace safety,
including the industrial sector.

Construction
• No matter the industry, workplace safety should always
include PPE specific to the task. On top of wearing the right
gear, people need to use equipment, tools, materials,
and machines in the right ways to avoid both injury and
damage to the asset. When equipment is not working
properly, it is much more likely to cause an injury. Think of

your car is not going to stop right when you need it.

safety • Keep work areas clean, and use non-slip surfaces to avoid
slips, trips, and falls. Ensure everyone knows the small but
critical ways they can work safely, including lifting with their
legs, not their backs, and taking scheduled breaks to avoid
making mistakes while tired.
ISO 18000

ISO 45000
• OHSAS 18001 was one of the International
Standard for Occupational Health and Safety
Occupational Management Systems. It provided a
framework for the effective management of
Health and OH&S including all aspects of risk
Safety management and legal compliance, and
it addressed occupational health and safety
Assessment rather than any specific product safety
matters.
Series - OHSAS
18001 • OHSAS 18001 has been replaced by ISO
45001:2018
• ISO 45001 is the new ISO standard for
occupational health and safety. It is set to
drastically improve levels of workplace safety
and productivity. With an emphasis on
management commitment, worker
involvement, and risk control, ISO 45001 aims
to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses, and
fatalities by specifying requirements for an
occupational health and safety management
system.
• This new standard, which will replace OHSAS 18001, follows the
approach of other management systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO
90001. While ISO 45001 draws on certain aspects of OHSAS 18001, it
is a new and distinct standard, not a revision or update, and is due to
be phased out to organizations gradually over the next three
years. Businesses will need to ensure their current thinking and
worksite safety practices are in order to maintain organizational
compliance.
