1 Introduction
Service experience of WinGD RT-flex, RT-flex-DF, X and X-DF engines shows the possibility to extend
maintenance intervals and life expectancies for some components, reducing the total cost of ownership
for the relevant engine types.

The appendices of this service letter provide tables containing updated maintenance intervals for the
engine types mentioned. Estimated lifetimes are also included for many components.

2 Maintenance intervals and component life expectancies

The appendices of this service letter supersede all other maintenance intervals and life expectancies for
the engine types stated. Updated tables are given for each engine type. Corresponding maintenance
manuals for each engine type must still be consulted for detailed instructions.

There are three possibilities to overhaul:

1. Overhaul on board: Refers to the on board process of bringing a component or sub-assembly

back to proper operational condition according to maintenance instructions (e.g. by cleaning,
measuring, lapping etc.) and/or replacing worn sub-components

2. Remanufacturing: Refers to the process of bringing a component or sub-assembly back to its

original condition by means of re-machining or replacing parts, depending on the component.
This process is usually performed on shore.

3. Replacement: Refers to removal of a component or sub-assembly and installation of a new one

in its place.
