7440-37-1 231-147-0 Argon, Compressed
UN Number: 1006

SECTION 4. FIRST AID MEASURES

In case of inhalation If adverse effects occur, remove to uncontaminated area. Give artificial
respiration if not breathing. If breathing is difficult, oxygen should be
administered by qualified personnel. Get immediate medical attention

In case of skin contact Wash exposed skin with soap and water.

In case of eye contact Flush eyes with plenty of water.

In case of ingestion If a large amount is swallowed, get medical attention.

Treatment (Advice to doctor) For Inhalation, consider oxygen

SECTION 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

Fire / Explosion hazard: Negligible fire hazard. Pressurized containers may rupture or explode if
exposed to heat.

Suitable extinguishing media Use extinguishing agents appropriate for surrounding fire.
Use spray water to keep containers cool.

Unsuitable extinguishing media None Known

Special hazards arising from the Wear full protective firefighting gear including self-contained breathing
substance apparatus (SCBA) for protection against possible exposure.

Special protective equipment for Move container from fire area if it can be without risk. Cool containers with
fire-fighters water spray until well after the fire is out. Stay away from the ends of tanks.
Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety device or
any discoloration of tanks due to fire. For tank, rail car or tank truck,
evacuation radius: 800 meters. Use extinguishing agents appropriate for
surrounding fire. Cool containers with water spray until well after the fire is
out. Apply water from a protected location or from a safe distance. Do not
get water directly on material. Reduce vapors with water spray. Avoid
inhalation of material or combustion by-products. Stay upwind and keep out
of low areas. Consider downwind evacuation if material is leaking.

SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions Wear personal protective clothing and equipment, see Section 8.

Environmental precautions Keep unnecessary people away, isolate hazard area and deny entry.

Methods and material for Avoid release to the environment. Avoid heat. Ventilate closed spaces
containment and cleaning up before entering. Damaged cylinders should be handled only by specialists.

SECTION 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Precautions for safe handling Avoid breathing gas. Use only with adequate ventilation

Requirements for storage rooms Store and handle in accordance with all current regulations and standards.
and vessels Protect from sunlight. Store in a well – ventilated area. Keep separated from
incompatible substances.

SECTION 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

No exposure limits available
Respiratory protection Keep self-contained breathing apparatus readily available for emergency use.
In case of rescue and maintenance activities in storage containers use
environment - independent breathing apparatus because of risk of suffocation by
edging out of air oxygen

Hand protection Leather gloves – suitable for freezing condition

Eye protection Safety goggles.

Skin and body protection Safety shoes with steel toe. Long sleeves and pants.
Engineering Controls Engineering control measures are preferred to reduce exposure to oxygen
depleted atmospheres. General methods include forced-draft ventilation,
separate from other exhaust ventilation systems. Ensure that sufficient fresh air
enters at or near floor level.

Conditions to avoid Never use cylinders as rollers or supports, or for any other purpose than
the storing argon. Never expose the cylinders to excessive heat, as this may
cause sufficient build-up of pressure to rupture the cylinders

Incompatible materials Using this product in welding and cutting may create additional hazards.
The arc from electric arc
welding may form gaseous reaction products such as carbon monoxide and
carbon dioxide. Ozone
and nitrogen oxides may be formed by the radiation from the arc. Other
decomposition products of
arc welding and cutting originate from the volatilization, reaction, and
oxidization of the material
being worked.

Hazardous decomposition None
