(SRB) (DRB) : The Beam Will Be Analyzed As Doubly: ' and Assume Steel Yield (Fs Fy)

1. The beam is doubly reinforced as the tension steel yields but the compression steel does not yield. 2. The true value of "a" is 77.226mm, where c is equal to 92.375mm. 3. The design strength of the beam, Mn, is calculated to be 259.059 kN.m. Applying a strength reduction factor of 0.9, the factored design bending moment, Mu, is 233.153 kN.m.

A rectangular beam has the following properties: width = 300 mm, effective depth d = 350. Tension bars As = 4 -28mm,
compression bars A’s = 2 – 28mm, d’=60mm. Determine the design strength of the beam. Use fy = 345 Mpa and f’c = 30 Mpa.
Use NSCP 2015.

Solution:
Given; f’c = 30 Mpa 0.85(30)(109.725)(300) = (Asmax)(345)
fy = 345 Mpa Asmax = 2433.033 𝑚𝑚2
𝜋
Tension bars = A’s = (28)2 x4 = 2463.008 𝑚𝑚2
4
𝜋 Since As > Asmax
Compression bars = A’s = (28)2 x2 = 1231.504 𝑚𝑚2
