Manat National High School is a former Manat Community High School then Manat Barangay High School which
subsequently developed into a full-grown institution. This started in 1985 when the site and the building occupied were
formally given to the high school, nationalized in 1988 and had been proclaimed last August 7, 1990 with Presidential
Proclamation No. 623 by Corazon C. Aquino, former President of the Philippines.
The location of Manat National High School is adjacent to the District Office of Nabunturan East. It is fifty (50)
meters away from San Vicente Quasi Parish, and five (5) kilometers away from the Capitol of Compostela Valley. It is
along the National Highway from Poblacion, Nabunturan to the Municipality of Maragusan.
It was Mr. Bernardino Pajaron the elementary school principal then who is a retired DECS Regional Chief of the
Non-formal Education and people of Manat with its adjacent communities who withstood shortcomings and constraints to
make this school a reality. They occupied one room from the elementary and started evening classes with the aid of
petromax as a source of light since at that time there was no electricity in this place. A year after, the PTA and Barangay
officials put up two-storey building and began daytime classes. Years had passed and enrollment had kept on increasing,
Manat Elementary School was given additional building in order that the secondary student could occupy it.
At first there were just a small number of students, because there was tuition fees which served as an obligation.
When the school was nationalized the influx of students was so great that the former 40 students per class became 75 to 80.
The first batch of graduates was composed of 29, both male and female students in 1970. Thereafter, series of graduates
were produced by the said school up to the present.
Manat National High was administered by an Elementary Principal of Manat Central and its first teachers were Mr.
Avelino Silverio and Feliciana Item. In 1988, it was properly turned over to the high school and spearheaded by school in-
charge, Mrs. Rosita A. Paican, who is a Retired TLE Education Program Supervisor in the Division of Compostela Valley.
As time moves on, Manat National High School is proud to have molded competitive professionals and responsible
citizens in the community.
The school has earned prestigious recognition in the national, regional and division level in the field of campus
journalism, communication arts, performing arts, Science-Math Fair, Student-Technologists and Entrepreneurs in the
Philippines (STEP), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), athletics, Gulayan sa Paaralan, Boy and Girl
Scouts of the Philippines and Brigada Eskwela.
