This Special Edition, compiled by EMBRAER Fleet Technical Center (EFTC), brings
information concerning the efficacy of some important Service Bulletins issued by
EMBRAER for the E-Jets Fleet.

In this E-Jets NEWS Special Edition, you will find relevant information that are currently
available to improve aircraft utilization. Main contributors have been identified and,
consequently, SBs that may allow your airline to further reduce flight interruption rate have
been defined.

Assumptions and Limitations

For this E-Jets NEWS Special Edition, which covers SB Efficacy analysis (interruption rate),
the following were considered:

• The analyses rates are based on flight interruptions from September/06 to


August/07 and are calculated in a 3-month average.

• Rates are based on interruptions and not on PIREPS.

• Systems that can be placed on MEL (Minimum Equipment List) may affect rate
analysis.

• In some cases, where the solution is the same adopted for both EMBRAER
170/190, PRE/POST mod rate evaluations for both fleets are considered.

• Some cases are season-related and the SB Efficacy may be affected.

• Graphs shown are related to most representative failure modes (EFTC Codes).

• The total number of aircraft with SB incorporated includes, besides the aircraft that
accomplished the solution in the field, delivered aircraft with solution factory-
incorporated, thus Post-Mod analysis may show events before SB Released Date.

Analysis: SB performance is within expected numbers. In the EMBRAER 170 Fleet, there
was one reported event as soon as the solution was released which increased the rate (few
Flight Hours available from aircraft that flew with solution installed).

SB190-21-0014 Improvement in Cabin Temperature

Analysis: SB performance is within expected numbers. The only EMBRAER 190 event was
due to the Pack by-pass valve, which will be addressed in April/08 by the introduction of a
new valve PN.

SB190-27-0010 Re-Greasing of the Flap Actuators Output Seals and


Bearings

Analysis: SB performance is within expected numbers. The SB Efficacy for this SB shall be
evaluated through a sampling program inspection at 2000/ 4000/ 8000/ 16000 hours with re-
lubricated flap actuators. There was only a Post-Mod event reported to EMBRAER, which is
being followed at supplier to identify the root cause (component tear-down).

Analysis: Although the numbers show a decrease in the failure rate for aircraft flying with
EDP -03, it has still been registered cases of leakage through this version of pump.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the root cause.

SB 190-32-0017 (Flushing Procedure for Brake System), SB 190-32-


0019 (Shutoff Valve Improvement) and SB 190-32-0020 (Brake Control
Valve Replacement)

Analysis: Data received considers that the mentioned SBs were incorporated together and,
although the data shows an improvement, data received in August showed an increase on
POST MOD events. However an improvement on the brake bleed procedure has shown that
the repeats were considerably reduced. Additionally SB 190-32-0019 removes a filter
downstream the SOV which reduces the contamination inside the valve. EMBRAER is
analyzing the root cause for Brake Faults reports and these SB are not the final solution.
