enabled me to complete the study “Human Resource Practice of Padma Islami
Life Insurance Limited” at Padma Islami Life Insurance, Chittagong.

Many of thanks to my supervisor Professor A.J.M Nuruddin Chowdhury, he gave

me necessary instruction for completing this report. Without his cooperation the
preparation of this study could not have been completed.

I would also Thank Registrar Sir, Assistant Registrar, and Deputy Director of
Accounts, Admin of Registrar Office, and also officers of the accounts department

Human Resource activities and to provide the high level association in utilizing the

technical support for the preparation of this report.

I would like to extend a very special thanks to my parents for whom I came to this

 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In the year 1998 the University began its life as an Institute, which was an
affiliated Bangladesh Campus of USA, UK Universities and later with the demand
of situations Mr.Sarwar Jahan & Dr.Ishrat Jahan initiated and established Southern
University Bangladesh, November 26,2002 Ministry of education approved
Southern University Bangladesh, under the Universities act of 1992 & 1998
January 14, 2003 Southern began its academic program.

Southern University is located at the port city of Chittagong on the South-eastern

part of Bangladesh. (WE DO NOT HAVE ANY
BRANCH/CENTER/CAMPUS/UNIT). Present campus only at Mehedibag
Road, Chittagong.

It offers higher educational programs in Business , English, Law, Computer

Science & IT, Pharmacy, Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Civil Engineering and Religion under three separate faculties namely(i) Faculty of
Arts, Social Science & Law,(ii) Faculty of Business Administration and
(iii)Faculty of Science & Engineering. All academic disciplines, programs have
been carefully designed in keeping with the needs of job market at home & abroad.
To develop up-to-date knowledge base, technical skills and high-level of analytical
& decision making skills among the graduates. These programs develop the
student’s knowledge of the theory and practice and an understanding of the codes
of professional responsibility. Interactive teaching methods, case study, internship
and research project to develop the graduates properly in keeping with the demand
of time. The University emphasizes on the arrangement of co-curricular activities
on a regular basis to develop the inherent potentialities of the students.

In order to ensure quality education, Southern University emphasizes on creating a

conducive learning environment through notable infrastructural developments,
employment of highly qualified & experienced faculty members, and creation of
modern laboratory facilities and regular arrangement of seminars, workshops and
discussion programs. It has been working systematically to develop its permanent
campus with all sorts of modern facilities in a few years. Southern University has
developed organization culture comprised of certain unique values including
teamwork, cooperation, empathy, non-discrimination, skill development and
accountability. The University indoctrinates its employees in these values. There
exists hearty relationship among the organizational members of this University
who are motivated and committed to work for attaining increasingly better
organizational performance. The University has BNCC(Army) Unit, Free Legal
Advice Center and Business & Society Forum which differentiate this University
from other private Universities of Bangladesh. In essence, these organizational
units perform corporate social responsibility for the University.

The Report Comprising with Introductory Chapter, Organizational Overview and

the report covers of Southern University Bangladesh. In this research study
researcher especially focused on the Human Resource Recruitment and Selection,
Training & Development, Compensation & Benefit and performance appraisal
policies and practices of Southern University Bangladesh. To prepare this report
researcher have taken secondary data and arranged some subsequent interviews
with the executives. Researcher has tried his level best to make this report
effective. There may have some limitations due to short duration and time
constraints and as a part of University Policy they keep some records confidential.

 Executive Summary

The Thesis is a partial fulfillment requirement of one year EMBA program by which a
student can gather practical knowledge. The aim of this program is to connect practical
knowledge and theoretical knowledge. I intended to develop my career in a financial
institution and I got a job as senior officer in First Security Islami Bank Limited, It is true
that, time is not sufficient to prepare thesis on “Foreign Trade Financing of First Security
Islami Bank Limited - A Case Study”, So I had to work hard.

The main objective of the study is to Analyze the Foreign Trade Financing aspects of the
First Security Islami Bank Limited. To discuss the rules and regulations, Foreign Exchange
Mechanisms are also in the way attaining the main goal. In this study primary data as well as
secondary data has used. Primary data collected by personal interview and observation .The
secondary data collected by bank annual report & web site, different training materials and
articles etc.

This thesis has contained comprising with introductory chapter, Organizational overview, and
Foreign Exchange Business and Performance evaluation of the Branch. Organizational
Overview parts includes different information related with introduction of First Security
Islami Bank Limited ,management, mission, vision, product & services, rendered by the
company for the customer.

The Foreign Exchange Business discusses the rules and regulation, activities of import and
export procedure, remittance, foreign exchange operation mechanism. The performance
Analysis has presented regarding Foreign Exchange Business which exists Import and
Export, Remittance performance etc.

Finding of the thesis have been presented that First Security Islami Bank Limited mostly
deals in Import related business rather than Export. Most of the clients are highly satisfied
with the service provided by the officials in the branch and find it best in comparison to other
banks. The foreign exchange is running its operation by efficient hands and at the same time
some minor problems have been identified from different sector of the department.

The Thesis provided some recommendations based on identified problems and evaluation
should be implemented to save the time, cost, difficulties and increase best performance of
the bank.

Finally, the thesis concluded that proper trade financial system of a country can contribute
towards the development of its economy. In our country, Banks are leading in the financial
system. Certainly First Security Islami Bank Limited is mobilizing its all resources on this
track to achieve maximum possible contributions to the nation. And the Foreign Exchange
Department is performing this task is very efficient way.
