ASSESSMENT

Direction: Create a self-portrait/photo that embodies your teaching philosophy.

Explain your self-portrait/photo:

Foy my teaching philosophy, I believe that each child is special and deserves an
engaging learning environment where they can develop socially, emotionally,
cognitively, and physically. I want to foster an environment where my students can
reach their greatest potential and create a secure setting where they are encouraged
to express themselves and take chances. And with that, the picture that I’ve attached
in here is what portrays my teaching philosophy in the future, since in this day my
cooperating teacher discusses a lesson to her class and asks them questions to see

what her students learned on her discussion. She lets them have a voice to explain
their sides or their opinion about the certain topic they are discussing. And also after
their discussion, she let her students do an activity to polish everything on their
discussion where her students could really understand and learn from it. And that’s
what I want to happen on my teaching philosophy in my journey of teaching in the
future.

Direction: Complete the table below by describing the teacher behaviors associated
with each educational philosophy in your own words. Prepare for a discussion with
your FS supervisor concerning your chosen philosophy of education.

Philosophies of Teaching Behavior

For essentialism, what I believe to be the teacher’s
1. Essentialism behaviour is that, teacher exercises full power in the
classroom, concentrates the subject matter by imparting
fundamental knowledge, placing a strong emphasis on
key subjects, and establishing the traditional moral
principles and virtues that are essential for students'
academic success.
For perennialism, what I believe to be the teacher’s
behaviour is that, teacher treats every student equally
2. Perennialism
and uses instructional strategies that have been shown
to be most effective in developing students' intellectual
capacity. Even if students may no longer find it engaging,
the instructor insists on teaching the fundamental
abilities of reading, writing, speaking, and other subjects
because she knows it would benefit the pupils.
For progressivism, what I believe to be the teacher’s
3. Progressivism behaviour is that, teacher creates/provides interactive,
immersive or engaging lesson that students’ interest
would be capture and that their curiosity would elicit
through experiencing that activity.

For reconstructionism, what I believe to be the teacher’s

behaviour is that, they would give activities to their
4. Reconstructionism
students that have connection or relation to the current
issues that we or the world is experiencing, and they
would encourage their students to express their selves

and their significant views, opinions or ideas in order to

be the best version of themselves.

For rationalism, since teacher adhere to the belief that

knowledge grows in child from the process of reasoning
5. Rationalism
without reliance on the senses, and with that they assure
to get and elicit truth information from their students,
and that’s what I believe to be the teacher’s behaviour in
rationalism.
