OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this task, the engineer should be able to:

1. Understand the general theory, components and operation of a Centrifugal Pump.

THEORIES:

1. List the major components that make up a typical ESP system.


2. Describe and explain what parts create a stage in a single-stage centrifugal pump.
3. Define where the pump is located within a typical ESP string.
4. Explain the function of the Protector and define where it is typically located within the
ESP string.
5. Explain how well fluids enter an ESP system when a Gas Separator is installed.
6. Explain what happens to the fluid column when the pump is turned off.
7. Describe what item connects the ends of a shaft together.
8. Describe how ESP systems might operate in underload or overload conditions.
9. Describe what device is used to measure electrical flow in amperage.
10. Explain the purpose of ESP cable.
11. Explain what gas locking is and how an operator could determine if a system is
experiencing this.
12. Describe the importance of measuring well data and comparing this to original pump
sizings.
13. Explain what conditions indicate a motor should be pulled, repaired or replaced.

1. Obtain basic Depth Control Knowledge.

THEORIES:

1. Describe the importance of accurate depth measurements.

PRACTICALS:

1. Review Section 3.0 ""Well Site Procedures"" in the Technical Services Manual. Make
appropriate notes to guide your actions at the well site to assure safe and proper
equipment handling.
2. Write a trip / job plan for what you will do / look for at the wellsite.
3. Travel to the wellsite and witness / assist with the on-site preparations for installation /
pulling of equipment (according to the Pulling and Running Task Sheets) and document
your observations..
4. Gather information for the Pull & Run report (as directed by senior Field Service Tech /
Engineer).
5. Assist in the completion of the Pull & Run report with guidance from senior FSE.
6. Complete a Trip Report (detailed sequence of events) for the installation / pull; include
your personal observations. Review your Trip Report with your manager or mentor.

3. Have knowledge of doglegs in wells.

THEORIES:

PRACTICALS:

1. With supervision connect a motor guide to a motor.


2. Know how to locate the drift size for tubing - become familiar with section
2.16 in the TSM.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this task, the engineer should be able to:

1. Spool cable both on and off a drum.


2. Understand all the safety hazards involved in spooling cable.
3. Anticipate when a driller will raise or lower a completion string.
4. Tie cable to a drum prior to pulling completion.

THEORIES:

PRACTICALS:

1. Read section 3.10 of the TSM.


2. Observe operations on a site during a run and pull.
3. Tie cable to a drum prior to pulling completion.
4. Spool cable onto a drum ensuring it is correctly wrapped.
5. Participate in pre job toolbox meeting and discuss emergency actions with
driller.
