MTH 100 Assignment

The document contains the solutions to two math assignment questions. For the first question, it finds the compositions fog(x) = 5x^2 + 1 and gof(x) = 25x^2 + 10x + 1, given the functions f(x) = 5x + 1 and g(x) = x^2. For the second question, it finds the inverse of the function f(x) = (2x + 1)/(x + 2) to be f^-1(x) = (1 - 2x)/(x - 2). The document was submitted by Maaz Husnain for the course MTH 100.

Math 100 Assignment
Question 01:- If f(x) = 5x+1 and g(x) = x2
Then find fog (x) and gof (x)

Solution:

fog(x) =f (g) (x)

=5g(x) + 1
= 5(x2) + 1
=5x2+1

gof (x) =g(f)(x)

= (5x + 1)2
=25x2 + 10x +1
fog(x) is 5x2+1
And
gof (x) is =25x2 + 10x +1

Question 2:-
2 x +1
Find the inverse of the function f(x) =
x +2
SOLUTION:
Let y=f(x) = y=2x+1/x+2
2 y +1
X=
y +2
By cross multiplication:
X(y+2) = 2y+1
Xy +2x = 2y+ 1
Xy – 2y = 1 – 2x
Y(x-2) = 1-2x
Dividing both sides by x-2
1− 2 x
Y=
x −2
1− 2 x
Therefore the inverse of f(x) is f-1 (x) =
x −2
