1. FOREWORD

Guidelines for updating firmware for Siae equipments are as follows:

1. Upgrade between minor releases is guaranteed, e.g 1.y.z to 1.y.z+n is ok

2. Upgrade between major releases is guaranteed by SIAE between successive versions,

e.g 1.y.z to 1.y+1.z

Also upgrades to 1.y+n with n>1 are normally possible but not guaranteed by SIAE.
Not guaranteed means that it has not been tested in all conditions and with all HW.

In this case SIAE should be contacted for a common assessment of the

situation.

2. SCOPE

Scope of this document is to provide a procedure that describes, step by step, how to perform
the software upgrade of AGS-20 equipment.

3. TOOLS NEEDED

A PC equipped with the “WebLCT Console” (WLC) software

Software version folders:

 bin (containing the system version)

 boot_e82115_xxyyzz (containing the boot firmware version xx.yy.zz)

The above mentioned version folders are contained in the distributed N31030 XXX.zip file
(where XXX varies depending on the distributed version).

4. WARNINGS

Before proceeding with the upgrade, the running boot version shall be verified against the one
provided. If the running version is included in the Mandatory Update list in the Release Note of
this system version, a boot download must be performed before upgrading the system version.
If the running version is not included in the Mandatory Update list in the Release Note of this
system version, the boot download must not be performed.

During the boot firmware download, the connection to the equipment must not be
interrupted.

5. PROCEDURE

5.1 Boot Download

Follow the steps below to perform the boot software upgrade of AGS-20 equipment.

1. Unzip files N31030 XXX.zip in a suitable directory of the PC used to perform the
upgrade.

2. Connect to the equipment using the WebLCT (login as 'System').

3. Open the Software Download window.

4. Select the file E82115.dwl (boot firmware) from the directory boot_e82115_xxyyzz.

5. Select "Only difference or not present/peripheral" as download mode.

6. Start the download and confirm by clicking on the window that pops-up.

7. At the end of the boot firmware download, the equipment Controller will automatically
restart. Wait for the restart to be completed.

5.2 System Version Download

1. Unzip files N31030 XXX.zip in a suitable directory of the PC used to perform the
upgrade.

2. Connect to the equipment using the WebLCT (login as 'System').

3. Open the Software Download window.

4. Select the file N31030.dwl (system version) from the directory bin.

5. Select "Forced" as download mode.

6. Start the download and confirm by clicking on the window that pops-up.

7. At the end of the system version download, to activate the new system version a bench
switch is required: click on “Bench switch” confirm by clicking on the window that pops-
up. Warning: the bench switch may be traffic affecting, depending on the system
version previously running

Note

Starting from AGS-20 N31030 01.15.00, four different .dwl files are released.

1. N31030.dwl

It addresses all the IDUs with exception of:

 Quad-IF IDUs

 GAI0217-3 (IDU AGS-20 DUAL IF W/16xE1+2xSTM1+Nodal)

 GAI0232-3 (IDU AGS-20-XG DUAL IF W/16E1+2xSTM1+Nodal).

2. N31030_ARI4NoPWE3.dwl

It addresses all Quad-IF IDUs when configurations don’t include PWE3 usage.

3. N31030_ARI4PWE3.dwl

It addresses all Quad-IF IDUs when configurations include PWE3 usage.

4. N31030_Enh.dwl

It addresses:

 GAI0217-3 (IDU AGS-20 DUAL IF W/16xE1+2xSTM1+Nodal)

 GAI0232-3 (IDU AGS-20-XG DUAL IF W/16E1+2xSTM1+Nodal).

Coming from a SYV less than N31030 01.15.00, the correct .dwl file has to be selected and
used, following the previous indication.

Coming from a SYV greater than or equal to N31030 01.15.00, the generic .dwl file has to be
used, regardless of the type of card
