 To convert improper fractions to mixed numbers, use the long division method.

 To convert mixed numbers to improper fractions, multiply the whole number by


the denominator, then add the numerator.

Ex: 4 6 = 6
= 6

 To convert fraction to percent %, the denominator should be 100.


To make the denominator 100:
1) Find equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100

Ex: 10 = 10× 10 = 10 0 = 20%

or

2) Convert the fraction to decimal then multiply by 100

= 0.2×100 = 20%

 To convert a percentage to a fraction, remove the percentage sign and replace it


with the denominator 100. (Remember, numerators and denominators must be
whole numbers, i.e., decimals aren’t allowed).

0.6 6÷ 2 3
Ex: 0.6% = 100 = 1000÷ 2 = 500

 To add/subtract 2 fractions with same denominators, just add or subtract the


numerators, and simplify if possible.

Ex: 7 + 7 = 7 Ex: 12 − 12 = 12÷ 2 = 6

 To add/subtract 2 fractions with different denominators, find equivalent fractions


with a common denominator (find the LCM), then add or subtract the new
numerators, and simplify the final answer if possible.

Ex: 7 + 5 = 7 ×5 + 5 ×7 = 35 = 35 = 1 35

 To multiply a fraction by a whole number, add the denominator (1) to the whole
number, simplify if possible, then multiply the numerators together, and multiply
the denominators together.

Ex: 5 ×9 = 5 × 1 = 5 = 3 5

 To multiply 2 fractions, no need to have a common denominator, simplify if


possible, then multiply the numerators together, and multiply the denominators
together.

Ex: 3 × 6 = 18÷ 2 = 9

 To divide a fraction by a whole number, add the denominator (1) to the whole
number, use the KCF method, simplify if possible, then multiply the numerators
together, and multiply the denominators together.

Ex: 6 ÷ 2 = 6 ÷ 1 = 6 × 2 = 12 ÷ 4 = 3

 To divide 2 fractions, no need to have a common denominator, use the KCF


method, simplify if possible, then multiply the numerators together, and multiply
the denominators together.

Ex: 5 ÷ 5 = 5 × 4 = 20 ÷ 5 = 4
