Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics V

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the pupils are able to:
a) Compares and arranges decimal numbers.
b) apply the four fundamental operations involving decimals in
mathematical problems and real –life situations.
c) demonstrate understanding of the four fundamental operations
involving decimals.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic: Compares and arranges decimal numbers.
B. Reference: Mathematics 5, 21st Century Mathletes- Chapter IV Lesson
4 page 106-113, Module 2, page 1-28 M5NS-IIb-104.2
C. Materials: Power point presentation, television, and visual aids,

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Students Activity

A. Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer

Everybody stand-up and let us pray.

2. Greetings

Good morning, Class!

Good morning teacher! We’re fine, how about
How are you today?
you?
Oh! I’m great!

Thank You,
Before you take your sit class, please pick-
up some pieces of traches, and arrange
your chair.
Thank you, may now take your seat.

3. Checking of attendance
No one is absent for today.
Is there any absent for today?

Excellent! No one is absent for today.

4. Drill

Now let’s have a drill.

Mechanics:

First, read the following numbers.

Then, write these numbers as words.

All you need to do is to choose the correct letter in

the box.

So the first one has been done for you.

1. 23.534 – Twenty-three and five hundred

2. Thirteen hundredths
thirty-four
3. Four and six hundredths
thousandths
4. Fourteen and seven tenths
2. 0.13 – 5. Seventy and forty-five
3. 4.06 -
thousandths
4. 14.7 -
5. 70.045-

5. Review

Before we proceed to our topic, lets have a short

review.
Last week, you’ve learned about place value of
decimal numbers.

Now let’s identify the Place value of each given

numbers by filling out the box.

1. 7.29
2. 34.034
3. 146.258

Very Good!

B. Motivation

To start, I’ll show a picture.

What can you see in the picture?

Ask: Who among you like to play sports?

Can you give me an example of sports?
Why sports are important?
Now, have you seen this one?

Amazing! It seems that you’re ready for our

discussion for today.

C. Presentation

During the Palarong Pambansa,, Alex Castro ran the

100 meter dash in 11.43 seconds. In the same event
Jun Abad did 11.58 seconds. Who is faster between
the two runners? 11.43 seconds
11.58 seconds

Ask: How long did it take for Alex to reach the

finish line?
11.43
How about Jun?
11.58

Which of the time recorded in seconds is less

fastest
than?
greater than?
Least time spent
If you win the race, are you the fastest or the
slowest?
Alex Castro
If you win, do you have the least or the
3
greatest time spent?

Who is faster between the two runners?

D. Modelling

How do we compare decimal numbers?

No
Tenths
Yes
Ask: Are the first two digits differing? 11.58
On what place value are they differ?
Can we now compare them?
Which is greater 11.43 or 11.58?

The teacher presents another example.

Very Good!

E. Guided Practice

Now to understand it more let us do this activity

by getting the LCM using each way.

1) 16 and 24
2) 6 and 36
3) 2 , 5 and 10
4
F. Group Activity 24
(answer my vary)
Now let us proceed to your group activity.
By getting the product of all the prime divisor
I’ll divide the class into 5 groups. Each group
and the last set of quotients we get the Least
have their own activity.
Common Multiples (LCM).
Again, these are the Group Work Rules that
you need to remember during the activity.

1. Work as a team
2. Listen to others
3. Be kind and helpful
4. Be safe
5. Adjust your voice level to suit the
activity.

Find the least common multiples of the following

pairs of numbers using continuous division.

Group 1. 25 and 50

Group 2 7 and 14

Group 3 4, 6, and 8

Group 4 6 , 9 and 18

Group 5 3, 8 and 15

Good job! You haven’t missed a thing. Give

yourselves a good job clap! This is how it goes,

G-double-O-D-J-O-B Good job good job.

G. Generalization

What is Least Common Multiple (LCM) of two-

four given number?
25P=100
cm
P= 44 m
156cm
m
How do we find the Least Common Multiple

5
(LCM) of two-four given numbers using
continuous division?

Least Common Multiple (LCM) is the smallest

non-zero number that is a multiple of all the
numbers in the set.
Very Good! 1.Write the number horizontally and find a prime
number that will divide the numbers, if possible.
2.Divide by that prime number and write the
quotients below the dividends. Copy any
numbers not divided below the dividend.
3.Continue the process until no two numbers
have a common prime divisor.
4.Multiply all the prime divisors and the last set
of quotients to get the LCM

IV. Evaluation

Let’s have an activity.

Find the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of the
given pairs of numbers by continuous division.

1)12 and 18

2)11 and 99

3)5, 10 and 30

4)4, 5 and 16

5)9, 54, 90 and 108

Excellent!

It seems you’ve learned a lot on our discussion for

today.

V. Assignment

Provide the following exercise. You may give

more.

Find the LCM of the following numbers using the

three ways in getting the LCM.

1) 3 4 6 3) 4 6 12

2) 2 3 5 4) 3 6 15
