Solid State Welder

Operator Interface User

Manual
Thermatool Solid State Welder Operator Interface User Manual

Thermatool ThermaView III provides an easy to use graphical user interface for certain
aspects of welder operation, as well as displays for welder faults and output power
characteristics. This manual will review the different screens of the ThermaView III
display, and how to use all the features available on each screen.

1. The Main Screen

At the bottom of this screen, there are 3 buttons which may or may not contain
text depending on the unit’s configuration: SET-KHZ brings you to the Variable
Frequency adjustment screen, and is only used on VF units. TSURE brings up the
ThermaSure screen, and is only used for units with this feature. Load Match is present on
all units.
At the top of the Main Screen is the Main Information Bar, which will alert the
status of the welder at any given time: It displays faults, and other useful information to
guide the operator. Below this are two fields which will contain the power in kW and
frequency in kHz of the welder when it is in Heat On operation (welding). In the middle
are two meters which display voltage and current percentages for the welder in Heat On
mode. Finally, there are two fields to indicate Manual or Automatic SPC (Speed Power
Control) mode, and Load Match mode. To access the Load Match screen, touch the
button.
2. The Load Match Screen

This screen is the user’s interface to the welder’s internal load match system: From
here you can control welder output current and frequency, as well as indicators of the
output voltage and current. At the bottom left, a field will toggle between Manual and
Automatic load matching modes by the Auto/Manual selector switch on the operator’s
console. Automatic mode will automatically adjust the frequency to match the rated
frequency of the unit, and the current percentage to match the voltage percentage (100%
Match, where welder operates most efficiently). Manual mode allows the user to control
these values.
With the machine in Manual mode, using the Parallel Inductor Up (freq. up) and
Parallel Inductor Down (freq. down) buttons, you can control the welder’s output
frequency (For Variable Frequency Units, see section 3 of this manual). With the Series
Inductor In (current up) and Series Inductor Out (current down) buttons, you can bring the
current up or down while the power will remain constant. There is a limit as to how far
either value can be adjusted, and the “Not at Limit” message in green will light up yellow
(as shown in picture above) indicating a high or low limit of the matching system’s
capabilities. You cannot adjust past this point. Manual control is most useful for adjusting
the unit to avoid a high or low current or frequency alarm when a size change is performed.
With the unit in Standby mode, these adjustments can be made in one direction or the
other, to help put the welder into a safe operating area in preparation for the next product to
be welded.
It is recommended that the unit be left in Automatic mode for most applications.
To return to the Main Screen, press Exit.

3. Variable Frequency SET-KHZ Screen (optional, VF units only)

This screen allows the user to have much greater control over their unit’s
output frequency. The Main Information Bar is still present, as well as power and
frequency displays. On the left, a button will toggle the machine between Low Band
(250-325 kHz) and High Band (325-450 kHz). Keep in mind it takes a couple of seconds
for the band to change when you press the button. Band cannot be changed while in Heat
On mode.
Now, using the arrow buttons on the right, you can set what you want your output
frequency to be either in Heat Off mode or Heat On mode, within your selected band.
The welder will adjust itself to achieve and maintain this frequency in operation. To
return to the Main Screen, press Exit.

4. Setup Screen
In order to access this screen, you must:
-Make sure the welder is in Heat Off mode
-Push in the power supply cabinet E-Stop button. This will trip the main breaker
-Hold down Heat On, Heat Off and Reset buttons together for 10 seconds
The Setup Screen will appear if you have done this correctly.

Here, you can touch a green field, enter in a value using the virtual keypad, and
then press ENT. These values are stored even when control power is not on. To exit this
screen, pull out the power supply e-stop button.
This also allows you to set whether or not this machine is equipped with
ThermaSure, or if it is a Variable Frequency unit. The customer should NOT use this
screen to change any system parameters. If any system memory loss occurs, please call
Thermatool Customer Support.

5. ThermaSure TSURE screen

For information on this screen, please see Thermatool ThermaSure User GUI
Manual.
